3 WHAT? EARTH CONSTRUCTION RESOURCE CENTRE (ECRC) The ECRC will be a training facility for students and professionals as well as the local community. The building will teach people all about earth construction and how to use the technology. This will enable people to build their own homes using earth construction methods. The building will also aim to revive methods in earth construction and establish it as a viable building material and method that can be reestablished in society. The building will also focus on sustainable principles and how to incorporate them into a building. The building will focus on the typology, climate, social and economic aspects of the area.the building will also re-enforce community involvement and participation. The building will also help to stimulate community development.

8 WHY EARTH CONSTRUCTION? Arid regions are ideal for earth construction Use of renewable resources E.g. wind, sun, earth, straw. Earth is readily available especially in arid regions Very little moisture in Arid regions The people still believe in earth construction Highly sustainable Environmentally friendly Can be built by the local people Easily understood

EMPOWERING THE PEOPLE Reviving indigenous knowledge of building For the community by the community Not just training for the local people, but for students and professionals as well Link between the local KNOWLEDGE and scientific knowledge. Professionals directly exposed to the ARID landscape as well as what it is like in a small town. Promote the town and general upliftment
