A DIFFERENT TYPE OF TRANSPORT PLANNING BUILDING A BRIDGE BETWEEN EUROPEAN RESEARCH AND SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY PLANNING

Collaborating Internationally As a key partner in a number of EU-funded projects, Vectos is proud to have a role in developing and delivering the latest innovations in sustainable transport planning. European programmes such as Horizon 2020 and Intelligent Energy Europe (IEE) underpin cross-industry exchange and develop new products and solutions for behavioural change in mobility patterns. We work with our clients to bring these innovations into their developments. Our core planning work strengthens our international projects and builds capacity amongst our partners and the European Commission.

CHANGING HABITS FOR URBAN MOBILITY SOLUTIONS CHUMS Carpooling is a great way of taking many single occupancy vehicles off the road, crucially reducing congestion and saving fuel consumption. Vectos leads the CHUMS project which takes a new approach by integrating three measures to ensure carpooling schemes in workplaces and universities are effective: Step 1: Attract: Hold a high-profile carpool week for staff Step 2: Inform: Provide tailored travel advice Step 3: Retain interest: Deliver regular prizes to carpoolers Demonstration Cities: Craiova (Romania) Edinburgh (UK) Leuven (Belgium) Perugia (Italy) Toulouse (France) Results to date: Toulouse has realised 58,000 kms carpooling per month through 530 registered users Intelligent Energy Europe programme INCREASING CARPOOLING FOR COMMUTING ATTRACT, INFORM AND RETAIN CARPOOLERS CARPOOLING DATABASE VITAL TOOL Project

MOBILITY INNOVATIONS FOR A NEW DAWN IN SUSTAINABLE (EUROPEAN) TRANSPORT SYSTEMS MIND-SETS Advances in technology and lifestyle changes mean that travel time and cost are no longer the only factors that influence people s mobility decisions. Increasing automation, door-to-door seamless travel, smart mobility, mobile phone apps and on-demand services give us more choice, but also make future planning more complicated. The MIND-sets project pools sociologists, environmental psychologists and economists with sustainable mobility and travel behaviour specialists. The resulting decision support guidelines will equip decision-makers and service providers with the insight to make more informed decisions and meet the changing needs of the market. The aim is to change their professional mindsets. Horizon 2020 programme WHAT MOBILITY POLICIES, PRODUCTS AND SERVICES WILL BEST MEET FUTURE NEEDS? HOW CAN WE BETTER UNDERSTAND MOBILITY BEHAVIOURS IN ORDER TO INFLUENCE AND CHANGE ATTITUDES? ASSIST PLANNERS AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WITH DECISION SUPPORT GUIDELINES Project

EASILY DISTRIBUTED PERSONAL RAPID TRANSIT ESPRIT The ESPRIT project is developing a new electric vehicle designed to seamlessly connect users with public transport hubs for more convenient and joined-up journeys. It is a one way car-sharing solution providing flexible drop-off locations within city centres or suburban areas. The unique design allows for easier and cheaper redistribution across the network to increase usage and convenience. Prototype vehicles will be demonstrated in Glasgow, Lyon and L Hospitalet (Barcelona urban area), tested for operational effectiveness ready for manufacturing and deployment across Europe. Vectos has a critical role in defining the specification of the vehicle through stakeholder and public engagement, assessing the pilots and identifying the likely market for future roll-out. Horizon 2020 programme ELECTRIC VEHICLES ON DEMAND ONE WAY CAR-SHARING FIRST AND LAST MILE SOLUTION FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT JOURNEYS ENERGY EFFICIENT ALTERNATIVE TO OWNING A CAR EFFICIENT REDISTRIBUTION Project

@SOCIALCAR_RDI

OPEN SOCIAL TRANSPORT NETWORK FOR URBAN APPROACH TO CARPOOLING SOCIALCAR The SocialCar project will establish carpooling as a more accessible transport mode. It is developing and demonstrating a new mobile phone application, in 10 European cities, which allows users to find carpooling options in real-time and to connect with public transport services. This simultaneously cuts travel costs and congestion. SocialCar will operate through social media, and be combined with open data sets for public transport and crowdsourcing. Vectos plays a leading role in the SocialCar project in facilitating the 10 demonstration sites and developing long term business strategy for commercialising SocialCar in Europe and beyond. Horizon 2020 programme PUBLIC TRANSPORT + CARPOOLING + SOCIAL MEDIA CROWDSOURCING = SOCIALCAR MOBILE APP REAL-TIME CARPOOLING OPTIONS Project

CONGESTION REDUCTION IN EUROPE: ADVANCING TRANSPORT EFFICIENCY CREATE The CREATE project identifies and analyses the policies and measures which have successfully reduced car ownership and congestion in Western European cities over recent years (London, Paris, Copenhagen, Vienna and Berlin). The best anti-congestion strategies are then deployed in city locations where rising car ownership is leading to increasing congestion (Bucharest, Adana, Skopje, Tallinn and Amman). Vectos develops a pioneering set of tested guidelines and strategies, applicable across different city types in Europe, to reduce congestion whilst promoting economic growth. Horizon 2020 programme EUROPEAN GUIDELINES FOR CONGESTION REDUCTION Project

IMPROVING THE SAFETY AND SECURITY OF RAIL SERVICES IN EGYPT The objective was to research and recommend to Egyptian National Railways (ENR) measures to enhance the design, delivery and management of its services. The focus was to improve the safety and security of services, particularly from the female-user perspective. In collaboration with our Egyptian local partners, Vectos analysed the complex results of the qualitative and quantitative studies, and compiled a report with a road map of recommendations and proposed pilot actions. Vectos delivered a capacity building workshop in Cairo for ENR staff to help build support and understanding for these measures. ENHANCING SAFETY AND SECURITY OF RAIL SERVICES, NOTABLY FOR THE FEMALE PASSENGER CAPACITY BUILDING OF EGYPTIAN NATIONAL RAILWAYS STAFF ANALYSIS OF PASSENGER FOCUS GROUPS AND SURVEYS Our latest report and executive summary is available:
