13 66% OF YOUNG PEOPLE (16-25YRS) WHO DON T CURRENTLY OWN A HOME BELIEVE THEY WILL ONE DAY. THIS FALLS TO 58% OF YOUNG PEOPLE (16-25) SAID THAT AN URBAN AREA WOULD BE THEIR IDEAL PLACE TO LIVE 13 47% OF YEAR OLDS WHO ARE NOT ALREADY ON THE HOUSING LADDER. 44% OF YOUNG PEOPLE (16-25) BELIEVE THAT MORE HOMES IN THE UK WILL MAKE HOUSING MORE AFFORDABLE, 55% OF YOUNG PEOPLE (16-25YRS) AGREE THAT MORE HOMES NEED TO BE BUILT IN THE UK. THIS AWARENESS OF NEED GROWS SLIGHTLY THROUGH THE AGE GROUPS RISING TO 61% IN 55+ YR OLDS. 14 14» Letter to Chief Planning Officers, 23rd Feb 2017 "the delivery of housing remains one of the highest priorities» "To be clear, each Local Planning Authority must provide a genuinely available supply of land for housing"» "This is a core principle of the planning system established by PPW since 2002" LESLEY GRIFFITHS AM PLANNING MINISTER

15 15» Planning authorities must ensure that sufficient land is genuinely available or will become available to provide a five-year supply of land for housing judged against the general objectives and the scale and location of development provided for in the development plan." 20 20 Alternative Delivery Methods» As part of considering housing delivery options, planning authorities should understand the contribution that all sectors of the housing market and housebuilders could make to meeting their housing requirement. When allocating sites, planning authorities need to consider providing a range of site sizes to allow all sectors and types of house-builder (including nationals, regionals, RSLs and SMEs) the opportunity to deliver the proposed housing requirement."» "Planning authorities must also consider the opportunities for self-build and custom build options to contribute to the delivery of the proposed housing. When promoting self-build and custom build development, planning authorities must consider all relevant policy options including the use of Local Development Orders (LDOs) and site specific design codes to simplify the planning process." They need to be self contained and not dormitory towns for overspill from larger urban areas.

35 35» In some parts of the region there is potential to explore the development of new settlements (settlements of the future) which would combine housing, employment, education and leisure elements in a planned, sustainable development of a significant scale."
