We have a very busy spring ahead of us and I hope you are all planning to participate! First, our March Roundtable is next Thursday, March 12, and will be a continuation of our discussion at the January Retreat. All details may be found on page 4 of this newsletter. Time is of the essence is your club represented? To register now, call or Ranelle at or rhuber@cbgarden.org. If you leave a voic , please leave your name and Club name thanks! She will be out of the office tomorrow (March 6), but able to check voic s and s in order to have an accurate count for the caterer. Next, it s time for Affiliate Day to be held on Thursday, April 16. We have a packed schedule, with great educational information for all of you! Details are on page 5. If you haven t made it to the Botanical Garden for Orchid Mania, it ends this Sunday. The Kent State Fashion Designs are wonderful, and not to be missed! I hope to see many of you next week! We now have 41 Affiliate Garden Clubs who have submitted their 2015 dues have you? Dues submission enables your participation in all Affiliate activities, and provides your club with a quarterly copy of The Garden Muse, as well as monthly receipt of The Root. Remember, the form may be found online, and rosters are required it s so helpful! This may be your last issue of The Root.we look forward to hearing from you! When: Saturday, March 21, 10:00-5:00 Sunday, March 22, 12:00-5:00 Where: Cleveland Botanical Garden Garden Room and Woodland Hall There will be a photographic presentation each day at 2:00 pm, and the show is free with your Cleveland Botanical Garden membership or admission! GardenWalk Cleveland Save the Date! The fifth year of GardenWalk Cleveland s free, selfguided tour of over 150 private and community gardens, urban farms, orchards and vineyards in neighborhoods throughout the City of Cleveland will be July 11 and 12, Mark your calendars for a wonderful tour of the West Park, Slavic Village, Larchmere, Detroit Shoreway and Old Brooklyn neighborhoods. Community Opportunities for Affiliate Garden Clubs: Perkins Garden Wildflower Rescue Workshop When: Wednesday, March 25 Time: 6:00-8:00 pm Where: Cleveland Museum of Natural History Instructors: Judy Semroc, Garrett Ormiston, Stanley Stine and Renee Boronka Due to the forthcoming construction at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, all of the plants in the Perkins Wildlife Center and Woods Garden must be moved. CMNH is looking for gardeners willing to adopt and care for these plants over a 2-year period. If you re interested, please register at American Cancer Society-Hope Lodge -Cleveland Each May, staff and volunteers of Hope Lodge kick off their gardening season by planting flowers and vegetables in their garden. They are looking for gardeners willing to donate plants and/or their time on Wednesday, May Samples of the kinds of plants requested are: Herbs Veggies Vine-like plants Hanging plants Tall shade plants Potted sunflowers If you are interested, please contact Simone Swanson, Assistant Manager, at simone.swanson@cancer.org, or call her at More information will be coming, especially about where to get the guides for this wonderful event!

3 Cleveland Botanical Garden and The Holden Arboretum Happenings: Orchid Mania ends this Sunday, March 8. If you haven t been by to see the Kent State student fashion designs, there s still time! The Botanical Garden will be closed the week of 3/15-3/20 for Big Spring installation. Join us on Saturday, March 21, for the opening of Big Spring if it s not there outside, come inside and pretend! Swap, save, and conserve! Register now for the March Roundtable A continuation of the Affiliate Retreat held in January! When: Thursday, March 12, 2015 Where: Woodland Hall, Cleveland Botanical Garden Time: 9:00-9:30 Registration 9:30-11:45 Retreat 12:00- Affiliate Council meeting (To be held in Lecture Room on second floor) This session will again be led by Anne Juster, Director of School/Garden Partnerships, and a wonderful facilitator. A number of areas have now been identified as important to the members of the Affiliate Garden Clubs, the next step is to narrow the focus and prioritize the best aspects of an Exceptional Partnership between Cleveland Botanical Garden and the Affiliate Garden Clubs, with the end goal of helping define who the Affiliates are, and where we see ourselves moving forward. Keep in mind that while the Botanical Garden and the Arboretum remain as separate organizations for most of the rest of this year; the emphasis remains on the partnership with the Botanical Garden. As the Botanical Garden and Arboretum move into strategic planning, all areas of both organizations will be examined as part of the process of developing an overall plan for integration. Having recommendations and ideas from the Affiliate Garden Clubs is an important piece of the work being done by the Membership Task Force (MTF). The MTF has been charged with reviewing all areas relating to membership, and developing an overall membership plan for both organizations. That s what makes this retreat so important, and your voices even more important we would like all clubs at the table next Thursday! Because this event will be held in a different room, with catered food, the deadline for registration will be FRIDAY, MARCH 6, 2015 we cannot guarantee food or seating after that date!

When: Thursday, April 16 Where: Cleveland Botanical Garden Time: 9:00-9:30 Registration opens and Continental breakfast is available 9:30-12:30 Program and Hort Hunt Theme: The Year of the Tree Deadline: Registration deadline is Thursday, April 9, We cannot guarantee food or seating after that date! Cost: $8.00 for members of Cleveland Botanical Garden $13.50 for Non-members of Cleveland Botanical Garden Parking is included with your registration fee. These are coming soon, right?
