5 DTD no A-1 A Warning and Safety Instructions 1 Personal Injury Danger! These appliances are top-heavy and must be prevented from tipping over. Follow the installation instructions. Danger! Use a finger guard to prevent fingers from being jammed when the door is opened. Always wear safety glasses when working near the copper tubing and all sealed system components. Do not move the copper tubing or sealed system components if it's not necessary. Remove heavy objects from the drawers and shelves when servicing or uninstalling the appliance.

6 A-2 DTD no General All repairs should be performed by a trained technician in strict accordance with national, state and local codes. Any repairs or maintenance performed by unqualified personnel could be dangerous. When servicing, modifying, testing or maintaining appliances, all applicable laws, regulations and accident prevention guidelines must be observed. Observe all rules and regulations of local utility companies, and norms not only limited to electrical safety. Before starting any service work, disconnect the appliance from its power source. Even with the appliance switched off, voltage may eist on some components. After work has been completed, a visual as well as an operational check should always be performed. 7 DTD no A-3 3 Danger of Electronic Shock On the electronic modules (e.g., the control electronic, power electronic, LED control module, icemaker), a voltage of over 300 volts can eist for up to 30 seconds after disconnection from the power supply. Wait at least 60 seconds before touching electronic modules.

9 DTD no A-5 5 Touch Current Measurement Note For appliances in safety class 1 (machines with a ground connection): Perform a touch current measurement on all accessible conductive components that are not connected to ground. Warning! Only perform a touch current measurement after checking and verifying that the machine is grounded! Potentially dangerous voltages may eist on a defective appliance, as well as on accessible conductive components not connected to ground. Note If panels can be removed without tools (which will epose conductive parts without ground connections), then a touch current measurement will have to be performed on these parts. Touch current measurement does not need to be done on components which, in the opinion of the tester (on his professional responsibility), could not have voltage applied to them. These include: Appliance doors Door hinges Compressor support tray Non-metallic rear panel Metal screws fitted into plastic Appliance feet Holding rails and shelves in the door Edge trim on glass shelves and similar parts.

24 DTD no Function 2.1 Electrical Supply Each appliance will be connected to its own 120VAC, 15-amp power supply. When column units are installed, there will be separate outlets for each column (see 030 Fig. 1). Every cooling appliance also has a main power on/off switch located inside the appliance, under the main control panel. The evaporator fan is shut off when the appliance door is opened during a defrost phase, after it was activated at the beginning. 2.4 Condenser Fan (M2/1) The condenser fan is turned on when the compressor is turned on. 26 DTD no The condenser fan (030 Fig. 2, Item 2) draws in ambient air through the air grille in the toekick area; the air then passes through the recess in the compressor, and eits back through the air grille. The ambient air cools the condenser (030 Fig. 2, Item 1) and the compressor (030 Fig. 2, Item 3). The air grilles are installed 3.9 inches (10 centimeters) above the floor so that the freezer interior does not get dirty. 2.5 Starting Program The starting program operates at the time of commissioning under the following circumstances: no NTCs are defective the temperature read by the ambient air NTC is greater than 41 F (5 C) the appliance door is closed. In the starting program, each of the following components is run for 5 seconds, one after the other: Refrigerant stop valve Icemaker Evaporator fan Condenser fan Drain channel heater Defrost heater Compressor

27 DTD no Display Icons Only the icons that can be activated are lit (backlit, white). When a selected icon or function is activated, the background light of the icon becomes yellow. Touching the icon again turns the function off, and the background light reverts to white. If no icon is touched after 4 seconds, then all icons will fade ecept for the temperature icon. 2.7 Appliance Status After a Power Interruption Display: All icons are hidden. The door alarm can be silenced by closing the door or by touching the alarm icon SuperFrost (Time-Controlled) After stocking the freezer with a significant amount of food, including bulky or large items like fresh poultry, engaging SuperFrost will override the thermostat and begin cooling the cabinet to a lowered temperature of -22 F (-30 C). SuperFrost will continue working to reach this reduced temperature until it reaches this eact degree or it is disengaged by the user. The result is an accelerated cooling process designed to lock in freshness, taste and teture. SuperFrost will be stopped when the super icon is touched or after 52 hours.

29 DTD no Relay Compressor The compressors in all Miele freezers are activated by a wire coil (inductor) relay Evaporator The evaporator is located at the top of the cabinet in both refrigerators and freezers. Bottom-mount freezers have two separate sealed systems (i.e. two compressors). Column appliances have one sealed system per appliance, even when merged. 32 DTD no VCC Compressor after Inde 24/... F 1411 Vi [USA-CAN] The compressor speed is controlled via the ambient air NTC. The starting speed depends on the temperature registered by this NTC. First speed increase: With compressor operating time longer than 130 minutes, the speed is increased by 600 rpm. After a defrost phase, the compressor speed is increased after it has operated for 60 minutes. Second speed increase: After a further 30 minutes of compressor operation, the speed is increased by 800 rpm. The speed is not reduced while the compressor is operating. 33 DTD no RemoteVision (Model-Dependent) The Miele RemoteVision system is designed to send messages directly to Miele and/or the customer's PC. The customer's wireless system must meet the following requirements: A router that supports an wireless standard Windows XP or newer operating system Cable or DSL modem See the operating manual for instructions on installing the RemoteVision module. 34 DTD no Fault Repair 3.1 Vibrations/Compressor Noises Cause In a newly installed appliance, the compressor may have shifted from its mounting during shipping. Remedy A Check the position of the compressor. A Thoroughly check the copper tubing. Reposition if necessary. A Check all factory solder joints and any other components connected to the sealed system. Note Always wear safety glasses when working with sealed-system components. 3.2 Ice Forms on the Interior of the Refrigerator, Freezer and/or Condenser Cause Defrost heater defective. Remedy A Test defrost heater in service mode. Perform heater test outlined in Heater Test, Cause Drain heater defective. Remedy A Test drain heater in service mode. Perform heater test outlined in Heater Test, Cause Drain channel clogged or frozen.

A Locate the L or Live 1 line connected to the terminal block (see 030 Fig. 5, Item 1) and clip the multimeter amp clamp to this wire (030 Fig. 5, Item 2). An amperage reading will automatically show up in the display of the multimeter because the appliance will have some components already running (lights, fans, compressor, etc.). A Access service mode (see Service Mode, ) and select a heater from the list of component tests (see 030 Table 25). A Monitor the multimeter for an amperage increase. A If an amperage increase is shown on the multimeter, then the heater element is functioning. If no increase is registered (i.e. amperage reading stays steady), then further troubleshooting is required.
