1 Unicron Engineering ULTRASONIC TRAP TESTER UTT 100 The UTT- Ultrasonic Trap Tester is a battery powered instrument that gives visible and audible indication of ultrasonic frequencies. It provides easy, accurate leak detection and mechanical inspection through advanced ultrasonic technology. Before you begin testing, it is advisable to familiarize yourself with the basic components of your kit. CONDENSATE DRAIN VALVES CDV 32 CDV32 condensate drain valve automatically drains condensate from steam systems during start-up. A compression spring inside the governor keeps the valve open if the appliance stays without pressure. As soon as the service pressure has reached the closing pressure to which the CDV has been adjusted, the valve closes due to the differential pressure. When the pressure drops below the closing pressure the Condensate Drain Valve opens by spring force. Connections are female screwed or flanged. 1 of 127

15 THERMODYNAMIC STEAM TRAPS DT42/2 Thermodynamic DT42/2 disc steam traps are compact and lightweighteasy to install traps, excellent for high pressure systems, including steam tracing applications. These traps have only one moving part and offer a wide operating range, without adjustment. Connections are female screwed or flanged. BLOWDOWN VALVE BDV The BDV blowdown valve is an optional supplied with integral strainer steam traps to protect the trap from contamination through the manual discharge of strainer contents. The device is applied to the following models:- DT46, DT42-2, TH32, BM20, BM32 and CDV. PRESSURE REGULATING VALVE RP6D and RP6P The RP6 series pressure regulating valves are single seated balanced plug, operated without auxiliary energy, designed for use on gases and liquids compatible with the construction. They are particularly suitable for reducing or sustaining pressure in all industrial process systems where pressures should be kept constant. PRESSURE REDUCING VALVE RP45 (Threaded) (DN ½ DN 1 ) The RP45 series pressure reducing valves are single seat bellows sealed controllers, operating without auxiliary energy, designed for use on steam, compressed air, industrial inert gases and liquids compatible with the construction. They are suitable for pressure sustaining applications where very small loads are involved. 17 PILOT OPERATED PRESSURE SUSTAINING VALVES PS47 (Steel) PS47I (St.Steel) The PS47 pilot operated pressure sustaining valves are designed for use on steam, compressed air, nitrogen and other gases compatible with the construction and they can be installed throughout all industries. The pressure sustaining valves are particularly recommended in those systems where a limited flow rate is available and it is necessary to guaranty the supply to some critical process applications. Installing this valve in the supply of non-critical application limited to the minimum required pressure, they will close in case of excess of consumption and consequent pressure drop in the system, keeping the remaining flow available for the critical application. In general this valve maintains the upstream pressure under control. Connections are flanged or threaded. 45 The HCC is a cooling device that allows the mixing of hot condensate with a lower temperature condensate, avoiding hammering. Condensate discharge from higher pressure lines (drip points, for example) are often connected to a low pressure condensate lines with lower temperature. This sudden pressure drop will convert the sensible heat difference between the two fluid conditions into latent heat generating flash steam. Flash steam has a much bigger volume than condensate and when mixed with the cold condensate it will cool suddenly, imploding and cause hammering (noises and vibrations). The HCC avoids this phenomenon since it slowly cools down the hot condensate which circulates inside a coil surrounded by cold condensate which circulates based on the thermo-siphon physical laws. EXHAUST HEADS EH The EH Exhaust Head is designed to protect the personnel from injury and exterior of buildings from the harmful effects of steam ejection to atmosphere. 61 MAT PUMP TRAPS How to select and size CONSIDERATIONS When a steam control valve is throttling to meet a reduced heat load, the steam pressure falls inside the heat exchanger. This steam pressure falling is sometimes considerable for several different reasons and the lack of differential pressure across the steam trap reduces it s discharge capacity, causing accumulation of condensate inside the heat exchanger, resulting in a stall condition. In presence of these considerations, it is recommended that before any steam trap selection and sizing for this kind of systems, to determine whether or not stall will occur. The non observance of this procedure may cause serious troubles on the systems, causing malfunction and equipment damage. Typically most of heat exchangers are selected from a standard production range available and they are often oversized, in other words, after the calculation the designer select the available model which area covers the calculated area, which in addition to other safety factors normally considered during the system design and heat exchanger calculation, results on over sizing. Over sizing heat exchangers increase the heat transfer capability above the required needs and for that reason the required steam pressure (and correspondent temperature) will be lower when compared with a correctly sized unit. They must be in consequence subject to a specific analysis.
