4 HEAT RECOVERY AIR HANDLING UNITS Better by design Design options - All Ecovent NRG units contain a cross low plate heat exchanger which has no cross contamination o moisture, smells or umes. - All units have a ilter to both inlets and a drain pan to the exhaust side o the heat exchanger. - Quick change plug connectors itted to all ans and motors - All units have been tested to BS 848 Part 1. The Ecovent NRG range can be readily adapted to suit your particular requirements. This will not take a lot o time at quoting, design or production stage; VES are experts in special air handling units. For example, the units size 3-6 can be upgraded to EN 1886 construction. This will add mm to the width and height, and mm to the length. Sizes 7, 8 and 9 can be scaled down to standard 25mm double skinned case construction i preerred. Twin extract ans with autochangeover system. The ans will be mounted in parallel to avoid loss o duty. Heavy weight case panel inill to urther reduce noise breakout. Fitted cooling or heat pump coils. It may be necessary to make the unit wider or go to the next size due to the ace velocity and air pressure drop through the coil. Fitted silencers available or all models. These can be powder coated to match a weatherproo case and supplied with support eet and inlet or outlet cowls i required. Electric Heater Batteries Calculate the heat output required using this ormula: Heat Output = Air Volume x Constant x Temperature Rise kw = m 3 /sec x 1.21 x T C Each EHB has a itted manual reset high temperature cut-out set at 130 C. In addition, when itted controls are supplied, VES it a urther high temperature cut-out rated at 70 C within the Ecovent NRG unit, together with an airlow pressure switch piped to each side o the supply an. These are all wired into the controls system, or complete saety in the event o reduced airlow or airlow ailure. The heater will be shut down beore any damage occurs. Hot Water Heaters Ecovent NRG Controls Generously sized to provide or all conditions, the coils have two rows o copper tubes and aluminium ins with a minimum spacing o 7 ins per inch. An air vent and drain is provided on the headers, which terminate in a BSP connection. See page 22 or a table o coil outputs. Control panels can be itted and prewired or supplied or remote location. The control panels have been designed to maximise heat recovery, and be easy to use once installed. Built-in controls mean the unit is ully prewired and tested beore despatch. There will be ar less site wiring required. Units in two or more sections will have terminal boxes which require some inal site connection by others, using quick change prewired plug connectors. The touch screen remote controller allows adjustment and monitoring o temperature and time clock. This gives the building occupants adequate control over their environment. Many other unctions are available, these can only be accessed by pin number at the remote. The controller has a low voltage screened cable connection to the panel. 4

5 Ecovent NRG Controls Continued Control Functions Intelligent start up the unit monitors the start up time over a period o time and automatically adjusts start time each day to meet the room temperature requirements. The air temperature is constantly monitored using sensors which check the resh air intake, supply air duct and extract or room temperature. From this the ace and bypass damper on the plate heat exchanger is automatically adjusted or heat recovery, ree cooling and cooling recovery. Electric heating in up to 9 steps o control. Fully modulating hot water heating with rost protection. Fan speed controllers can be supplied loose, itted to unit and prewired into the control system as required. The control system can switch the unit to low speed ie trickle vent using the speed controllers i required. DX or chilled water cooling control. Should a DX heat pump coil be itted, an additional sensor will be located ater the plate heat exchanger to ensure that an air on temperature o 16 C onto the heat pump coil is provided in heating mode. Demand ventilation using an air quality sensor The VES AQ Sensor sends a 0-10 volt signal direct to the an speed controller to adjust the airlow to maintain desired air quality. Typically, as occupancy increases, air quality decreases, and the an will speed up to compensate, and vice versa. This is particularly beneicial with the ull resh air Ecovent NRG system, especially when they have inverters itted. AQ Sensor Features Adjustment o the weighting can be between % CO 2 and % VOC (volatile organic compounds), and proportions in between, ie 25/75, / etc. VOC weighting should be used or environments with odours such as smoking, cooking, toilets, garage exhaust umes etc. CO 2 weighting should be used where people occupancy varies, ie shops, oices, sports clubs etc. Deault setting /%. Normal range o operation or CO 2 is 4-12 ppm, the deined range rom clean resh air to unpleasant air. This band width can be reduced i required or a aster response. The AQ unit sends a 0 10 volt signal direct to the an speed controller. The AQ Sensor is suitable or room location model AQ-R, and duct mounting using model AQ-D.
