This manual gives a common description and information for this heat pump air conditioner which you operate as well as for other models. These heat pump air conditioners have been designed for the following temperatures. Operate the heat pump air conditioner within this range. Do not charge oxygen, acetylene or other flammable and poisonous gases into the refrigerant cycle when performing a leakage test or an air-tight test. These types of gases are extremely dangerous and can cause an explosion. It is recommended that compressed air, nitrogen or refrigerant be used for these types of tests. ΠDo not pour water into the indoor unit, outdoor unit or CH unit. These products are equipped with electrical parts. If poured, it will cause a serious electrical shock. ΠDo not touch or adjust safety devices inside the indoor or outdoor units. If these devices are touched or readjusted, it may cause a serious accident. ΠDo not open the service cover or access panel for the indoor or outdoor units without turning OFF the main power supply. ΠRefrigerant leakage can cause difficulty with breathing due to insufficient air. Turn OFF the main switch, put out fire at once and contact your service contractor, if refrigerant leakage occurs. ΠThe installer and system specialist shall secure safety against leakage according to local regulations or standards. $ WARNING: ΠDo not use any sprays such as insecticide, lacquer, hair spray or other flammable gases within approximately one (1) meter from the system. ΠIf circuit breaker or fuse is often activated, stop the system and contact your service contractor. ΠDo not perform installation work, refrigerant piping work, drain piping and electrical wiring connection without referring to our installation manual. ΠCheck that the ground wire is securely connected. Connect a fuse of specified capacity. Do not put any foreign material on the unit or inside the unit. Make sure that the outdoor unit is not covered with snow or ice, before operation. & CAUTION: ΠDo not install the indoor unit, outdoor unit, CH unit, remote control switch and cable within approximately 3 meters from strong electromagnetic wave radiators such as medical equipment. ΠSupply electrical power to the system to energize the oil heater for 12 hours before start-up after a long shutdown. NOTE: ΠIt is recommended that the room be ventilated every 3 to 4 hours. ΠThe heating capacity of the heat pump unit declines according to the outdoor air temperature. Therefore, it is recommended that auxiliary heating equipment be used in the field when the unit is installed in a low temperature region.

Recently, increased numbers of buildings are requiring Intelligent facilities - communication networks, office automation, including a comfortable environment. Particularly, comfortable space is required all the day through the year in office buildings. This multi-split system air conditioner, HI-MULTI SET-FREE can meet these requirements. The proven combination of the scroll compressor and the inverter provides the best air conditioning for small / medium office buildings FXG Series - Uses of the HFC series new R407C Refrigerant HITACHI has developed and introduced the new SET-FREE FXG series to meet the global needs to help protect the Earth s environment by using non-ozone depleting refrigerant, R407C as HITACHI s standard series. 10 1 2 FEATURES Great Power Saving Due to Heat Recovery System Independent cooling or Heating Operation The FXG system consists of multiple Indoor Units, multi-kits, CH unit and one Outdoor Unit. According to head load conditions, refrigerant flow is changed by activation of the CH units, and cooling operation is available independently. 11 1 FEATURES H-LINK SYSTEM The new H-LINK wiring system requires only two transmission wires connecting each CH unit and outdoor unit for up to 16 refrigerant cycles, and connecting wires for all indoor units and all outdoor units in series. Only one connection is required for the wiring between the indoor unit and outdoor unit. Easy wiring connection to the central controllers Example of H-LINK System Outdoor Unit Transmission Wires Refrigerant Piping New transmission system A non-polar 2-wire cable is applied for the transmission wires connecting indoor units and outdoor unit. Miswiring by inverting connections 1 and 2 is eliminated. Wide Operation Range This unit has been designed for cooling operation under low ambient temperatures down to -5 ºC. This feature enables cooling to be obtained even in winter on buildings with high internal heat gains due to lighting, people and machines, particularly in areas such as shops, lecture rooms, data processing areas etc. And the heating operation under low ambient temperature down to -15 ºC can be also performed. 12 1 4 FEATURES Basic Circuit of PWM Grade-up on Flexibility and Comfortability Power supply Chopper Part Regeneration Part Motor Able to Establish Air Conditioning Systems for Various Requirements A maximum piping length of 100 meters and maximum lift of 50 meters between the indoor units and outdoor unit are applicable, and a maximum lift of 15 meters, which is almost equivalent to a 4 floor height, between indoor units is available Piping System for FXG Series Lower Sound Operation during Night Time Through computer simulation of fluid turbulence which is the main source of unwanted noise, and by visual observation of fluid flow, operation sound has been thoroughly analyzed. By improvement of the cabinet structure and fan shape, and by the adoption of a new material and inverter, operation sound has been reduced. System Example 1: Line Branch System CH Unit Low Operation Sound Resulting from New Fan Shape and Propeller Fan Material The most appropriate fan shape for smooth air flow has been researched. Consequently, a new fan shape has been developed to minimize air turbulence around the propeller fan. Also, a new material of MRP (Mica polypropylene) which minimizes vibration characteristics against vibration sound has been adopted, and a laminated surface prevents turbulent flow. This combination has resulted in a low operation sound which was almost impossible in the previous units. Operation in the same mode System Example 2: Header Branch System Propeller Fan CH Unit Low Sound Operation by Low Noise Fan Motor In order to minimize electromagnetic sounds, research was thoroughly performed on the materials to be used for the assembled fan motor. Consequently, aluminium die-casting was selected and a low sound operation has been achieved without decreasing the operation performance. Also, a non-resonance suspension structure has been adopted to support the fan motor. Due to this structure, the vibration sound has been minimized. System Example 3: Combination Branch System High Durability The twin scroll compressors with the outer oil supply system and the oil separator are applied as same as FSG series. Therefore, the oil is directly supplied to the compressors and the reliability is increased moreover. CH Unit Operation in the same mode

13 1 FEATURES 5 Greatly Minimized Piping Work by HITACHI "Uni-Piping System" The new "Uni-Piping" where the same size pipe as the main refrigerant pipe can be utilized, has been developed. Due to this single size, piping work has been greatly simplified. Also, from the point of design, complicated piping selection has been minimized. Only two refrigerant pipes in the refrigeration cycle are required. Various piping connection sets are also available according to field requirements. Due to these improvements, various problems during installation have been solved. The new HITACHI "Uni-Piping System" is the epoch-making system which saves installation time and labour. The "Down-Size Piping System" is not available for FXG system. (The "Down-Size Piping System" is available only for FSG system.) Possible to Extend Longer Refrigerant Piping to Meet Needs for Tall Buildings The actual piping can be extended up to 100 meters (equivalent piping length: 125 meters). Lift between the indoor and outdoor unit can also be extended up to 50 meters, and the lift between indoor units can be extended up to 15 meters. Therefore, more variable piping systems are available. The liquid piping for the indoor units up to 2.0HP has been down-sized to 6.35mm as the outer diameter. Also, gas piping for the indoor units up to 1.5HP has been down-sized to 12.7mm as the outer diameter, resulting in simplified refrigerant piping work and a smaller of refrigerant charge.

14 1 6 FEATURES Multiple Capacity Control To effectively operate the indoor units, the most appropriate refrigerant flow volume is controlled by the number of operating indoor units. By sensing the air temperature difference between the inlet and outlet of the indoor unit, the electronic expansion opening is controlled to supply the most appropriate refrigerant flow volume. All units can be operated according to their separate operating conditions. Due to the new control method, we are able to provide 15 meters (all most equal to a 4 floor height) lift between indoor units, resulting in flexible installation. (CH units shall be installed in the same floor.) Outdoor Units Standard Unit 10 min. Outlet Air Temperature Time Precise Control with the Wide Range Inverter Even for Small Air Conditioning Space The compressor speed for FXG series outdoor unit is controlled within a wide range of from 30Hz to 115Hz. Therefore, smooth operation is available without frequently using the ON/OFF control. This new wide range capacity control can meet not only the needs of a wide space but also a small space such as guest rooms and management rooms. Defrosting operation can be quickly performed because of a high compressor speed of 115Hz. Outdoor Unit 10 Hp

15 1 FEATURES 7 ELECTRONIC CAPACITY CONTROL The capacity of the 8 and 10HP outdoor unit is continuously controlled by the inverter from 26% to 100%. This wide working range has been obtained by the improvement of shaft strength and high pressure oil circulation in the scroll compressor. Therefore, an air conditioning system where heat load is greatly changed through the day is easily catered for. Also, the capacity of each indoor unit is controlled by detecting the inlet and outlet temperatures using an electronic expansion valve.
