2 Welcome to the CarbonLite brochure from pplied Energy Products Limited. The brochure showcases products from the Creda, Xpelair and Redring product ranges offering low carbon heating, hot water and ventilation solutions suitable for domestic and commercial applications. We are all aware of the challenges surrounding climate change and the targets set by our government to help achieve CO 2 reductions. t pplied Energy Products Limited we have responded to those challenges by developing a range of products to help all those involved in specifying heating, hot water and ventilation systems, not only choosing fit for purpose products but ones that help reduce CO 2 emissions as well. uilding services are an essential part of any building and can have a major impact on its carbon footprint. The following pages contain solutions to reduce the impact of the chosen services. Whenever you see this logo, it will indicate the annual carbon that can be achieved when using the product featured versus a less energy efficient alternative. 14kg Typical carbon of up to 14kg per annum when compared to standard C equivalents In addition over 9% of our product assembly is still located within the UK. This allows us to minimise transport pollution. We have also removed all EPS from our packaging, which is now 1% biodegradeable. 3 CarbonLite bathroom and kitchen solutions CarbonLite ventilation The Xpelair CarbonLite range offers compliance with uilding Regulations Part F and help mitigate energy use outlined in uilding Regulations Part L. The bathroom and shower room offering comprises of IPX5 rated products for use in bathroom splash zones, safety extra low voltage (SELV) options, long life - low running cost motors, intermittent and continuous extraction models and guaranteed installed performances in the bathroom via the Xpelair constant volume technology. For installations that fall within the scope of uilding Regulations, the extract requirements are 15 l/s for bathroom and shower rooms, and 6 l/s for toilets. If the room does not have an opening window then a fan with a built in timer should be selected. This will continue to run for at least 15 minutes after the room has been vacated. For other rooms where moisture generation is high a humidity sensor controlled fan would be recommended. Xpelair fans are suitable for through the wall, ceiling or window fitting in most homes. For high-rise and exposed (e.g. coastal) locations, centrifugal fans will cope better with gusty conditions. Centrifugal and mixed flow units have a better pressure characteristic, which makes them more suitable where a ducted solution is required. ir replacement is particularly important in these rooms as the doors are shut when occupied. fan can only function if there is an equal flow of air to that being extracted. This can be achieved by maintaining a small gap beneath the door and the floor covering or by fitting a slim air replacement grille to the door. Cooking, washing, showering and breathing all create water vapour up to two gallons for a family of four per day. Without a home being able to breathe, this moisture has nowhere to go. Mould growth on cooler surfaces like window frames and in unventilated spaces such as the back of wardrobes not only looks bad, it can be bad for your health too. The EverDri system is based on a continuous supply of fresh, dry air into the home. This creates a slight positive pressure which forces moisture and contaminant laden air out through natural leakage points in the building. The long life low energy UltraDC motor contained in the system is permanently switched on and automatically temperature regulated to ensure continual air quality. 18 Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the world today. There is now a clear association between the environmental threats of Global Warming and emissions of greenhouse gases. 87% is attributable to Carbon Dioxide (CO 2 ), which is increasing as a result of deforestation and the combustion of fossil fuels for the energy in transport, industry and in the home. CarbonLite renewable energy solutions The scientific evidence has been matched by unprecedented political action in attempts to address the problem with landmark agreements at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992, the World Conference on climate change in uenos ires in 1998 and most recently the UN Climate Change Conference in ali. The European Union and more particularly successive United Kingdom Governments have set and met ambitious CO 2 emissions reduction targets. The world has to adapt to climate change and to reduce the risk by reducing individual contributions to its causes. In the UK, with 45% of CO 2 emissions coming from buildings, considerable public resources have been channelled to drive carbon s through energy efficiency. Industry has responded with products performing current tasks but with significantly less energy use and lower whole life costs. With 6% of domestic energy used to heat the spaces in which we live and breathe, Redring has been at the forefront of new technology with a focus on installed performance in many of its products to help developers minimise their environmental impact and homeowners save on ownership and running costs. Xpelair micro wind-turbine COMING SOON!!! Small scale or micro generation is a key part of the government s strategy for reducing carbon emissions. The new range of Xpelair turbines are designed to be suitable for use in both domestic and commercial applications. The product is designed to be visually unobtrusive with a powerful low-friction axial field alternator, which provides for start up at lower wind speeds and results in lower noise levels and vibration free operation. The turbine will generate an average 1.6kW hours of power per day giving a carbon of up to 25kg per annum. Why Solar? Generating your own energy is the very best way you can reduce the impact of climate change, help protect the environment, reduce our dependance on imported energy and save money. Heating and hot water are the largest users of energy in our homes and solar thermal collectors harness the power of the sun to generate free hot water. Code for Sustainable Homes With 216 fast approaching and the drive toward low to zero carbon homes the Redring Sunstore solar system s greater efficiency will gain you extra points towards achieving your dwelling s emission rate (DER) and may result in the developer not having to alter other aspects of his build to achieve the desired star rating. a lot easier for the homeowner to take advantage of one of the most efficient renewable technologies available in the UK today and claim the (LCP) 4 grant. Part L The pril 26 revision to Part L of the uilding Regulations requires that all buildings do not exceed a target carbon emission rate. This can be achieved by improving insulation, air-tightness or the construction method of any given building. However, in most situations simply installing a Redring Sunstore (vacuum tube) solar thermal collector will provide sufficient carbon to achieve Part L compliance without any building design change. Why Redring Sunstore? Solar thermal collectors produce hot water directly from the Sun. Even in the UK the Redring Sunstore solar system is proven to provide around 6% of an average family s annual domestic hot water requirements for free. The benefit to the householder in terms of reduced fuel bills is clear - especially with the continuing rise in gas prices. The benefit to the environment is also enormous; reductions in greenhouse gases help to reduce the devastating impact of climate change. vailable in both tubular and flat-plate panel options, the Redring Sunstore solar system is the preferred choice of the experts and has been selected for some of the largest solar installations in the UK as well as hundreds of private households. Permitted Development lso in March 28 the Government passed it s most recent amendment to the permitted development scheme. Solar thermal products are now allowed to be installed in most cases without planning permission. This removes one of the biggest hurdles in the installation process and now makes it Sunstore kit For further information on permitted developments please visit 34 CarbonLite t w 35

Why Vacuum tube? The Redring Sunstore vacuum tube solar thermal collector has been demonstrated to produce 6% of a family s hot water needs across the year and is the latest generation of super-efficient vacuum-tube solar technology, designed in the UK specifically for UK conditions. Designed for easy installation, usually taking just a day to fit and the low profile panels clip into a unique roof mounting which avoids roof leaks and keeps all pipe-work hidden from view. The Redring Sunstore vacuum tube solar thermal collectors utilise state-ofthe-art thermal vacuum technology to convert solar energy into hot water. The selective coating enables the use of the whole energy spectrum to generate heat and although it produces much greater energy in bright sunshine, hot water collection temperatures are still achieved in overcast conditions. stage and an equally impressive 652kWh** per square metre per year when measuring the Domestic Hot Water performance. In order to lock the energy in, the Redring Sunstore vacuum tube collectors use vacuum insulation technology to prevent the heat escaping from the tubes much like a vacuum flask. We recommend you compare its performance with the small print of other solar products. The Redring Sunstore solar system will: Provide up to 6% of your typical domestic hot water requirements Radically reduce your domestic hot water heating bills Integrate with all types of heating systems including combi boilers Require no scheduled maintenance Reduce CO 2 emissions by at least 3Kg/year Provide free hot water for at least 25 years Vacuum tube solar versus flat-plate solar The Sun moves relative to the Earth s surface at the rate of 15 /hour east to west and by approximately 46 /annum north to south. This means that fixed collectors will hardly ever be perfectly aligned with the Sun. t latitude 52 north, a south-facing collector angled at 3 will only be perfectly aligned (present its full aperture) at midday on mid-summers day. Collectors in a tracking panel system will be perfectly aligned with the Sun all the time it is shining, and therefore the full aperture will be presented to the Sun all day, every day. The collectors in a fixed panel system will only present anything approaching their full aperture to the Sun around midday. During the rest of the day, only a fraction of the panel is being presented. In a year tracking collectors can produce up to 25% of the energy fixed collectors can. The Redring Sunstore Solar Tracker II combines high efficiency Redring Sunstore vacuum tube collectors with an advanced computer controlled mounting system that ensures the collectors are always gaining the maximum amount of energy available. The Tracker s proprietary Hunt & Track digital control system continually scans the sky to locate the Sun. It then positions the array, using reliable and whisper-quiet electronic actuators, so that the collectors are perfectly aligned to gain the most energy. If the Sun is obscured by cloud then the system automatically huns and tracks to the part of the sky where the most energy is available. n integral clutch allows the unit to weather cock out of strong winds or stop if an obstruction is encountered. The Redring Sunstore Solar Tracker II is used by private pool owners, industry and the public sector to meet their water heating requirements. The Redring Sunstore Solar Tracker II can work as the sole source heating, or it can work alongside other heating systems. It will significantly reduce energy bills and over its 25-year life can prevent almost 5,kg of CO 2 polluting the atmosphere (depending on size of system and fuel being replaced). Tracker is ideally suited to heating swimming pools, many of which are under-utilised because the water is too cold or heating costs are too high. Using just solar energy, a pool can be maintained at 26 C - 3 C (77 F - 86 F) from May through to September. Tracker can also be used to provide large volumes of domestic hot water all year round. single tracking system can provide enough energy to heat up to 1,4 litres of water or to provide a 4 person apartment block with 6-75% of the annual domestic hot water requirement - making it ideal for commercial applications. It is suitable for existing or new pool or water heating systems and installation is fast and straight forward. Four models are available (each designated by the collector area), so you can be assured a cost effective and controllable solar system, with gains of up to 25% over fixed collector systems. The product s impressive performance will give you up to 893kWh** per square metre per year at the pre-heat Redring Sunstore vacuum tube solar systems provide more consistent level of hot water all year round. 20 Renewable energy solutions Product selector 3 simple steps for selecting a typical installation: Firstly determine the size of system that is required. Size can be calculated from any one of the following approaches. The number of bedrooms, or the number of people, or the existing cylinder size (which should have already been correctly sized for the application). There is no minimum size as any Redring Sunstore will provide free hot water. However, the chart below illustrates our recommended sizing. For maximum effectiveness always select the largest system for any given application, ie: for Next determine where the solar collector can be located. South facing is always preferred, with South-East or South-West perfectly acceptable. To facilitate any of these locations, sloping roof, flat-roof and vertical walls can all be used by choosing from our range of unique mountings. a house with two people but four bedrooms select the Sunstore- 21 or Sunstore-25. For an existing cylinder of 11lit for a house with five people, select the Sunstore-21. Where there is no existing cylinder or the existing cylinder will not be used, always east/west facing location on a sloping roof, with an angle of less than 35 degrees, you should use the product selection for south facing locations. ngles greater than 35 degrees should use the east/west product selections. Sizing Chart: Determine how many panels are required. Decide if you can use the existing cylinder in the property or would prefer to purchase a solar-prepared system cylinder. If the current cylinder is in good condition and is currently providing good service and sufficient hot water, it can be converted to use an external heat-exchanger that requires no additional pumps. y using two patented flanges that fit the cylinder wall, the heat exchanger can be fitted quickly and easily to almost all existing cylinder brands; removing the need for a pre-feed cylinder or replacement of the existing cylinder. See the Redring Directory for existing cylinder converters, Combi boiler conversion kits and optional extras. 21 CarbonLite heating and air treatment solutions Low carbon electricity, generated here in the UK and not imported from around the world, gives us security of energy supplies and contributes to reducing the devastating impact of climate change. Low carbon electricity provides low carbon heating from electric panel and storage heaters. Creda are at the forefront of these developments with the latest technology, advanced energy- controls and contemporary styling to suit the homes of today. building regulations. Once installed, electric heating requires virtually no maintenance. Unlike gas there is no legal requirement for an annual landlord safety certificate. Year in and year out, electric heating provides instant, responsive and safe heating on demand. Recent calculations have shown that when all these factors are taken into account there is a minimum overall cost of at least 13% a year in comparison to gas central heating. partments and flats often favour electric heating for all these reasons. It is the simplest and most cost effective solution for many hotels, gyms, crèches, nurseries, surgeries, care homes, offices and shops all over the UK.
