This is a Standard Flower Show. It conforms to the standards and objectives established by the National Garden Clubs. Inc. (NGC). Rules are in compliance with the Handbook for Flower Shows 2007 (revised) with corrections published in the National Gardener. The Standard System of awarding will be used in judging exhibits: one 1st (blue) 90 plus points, one 2nd (red) 85 points, one 3rd (yellow) 80 points and one or more honorable mention (white) may be awarded. All Entries judged to earn 90 plus points need to be so marked. Only exhibits earning 95 plus or more are eligible for the top National Garden Clubs, Inc. (NGC) awards. 2. Competition is open to any amateur gardener or flower arranger attending the State Convention. 3. Horticulture entries: All exhibitors must complete entry cards (available from the Entries Chair) and prepare their entries prior to classification. ification Chair will check entries for conformance to

4 the schedule. Next, the Entries Chair will log exhibits into the official books. Lastly, entries are given to the Placement Committee to be placed in the exhibit space. 4. Design entries: All exhibitors must place their entries in their assigned location. 5. All personal property must be identified on the bottom of the container. MFGC will not be responsible for damage or loss of property, nor injury to persons, but will exercise due care for the protection of all exhibits. 6. Entries will be received beginning 1:00 Thursday, June 23, Judging begins at 7:00 June 23, 2016 or soon thereafter as determined by the Chair. 8. No exhibits or ribbons may be removed. 9. Judges and student judges are accredited by NGC. The decision of the judges is final. Awards may be withheld if not merited. 10. There must be an emphasis on fresh plant material. No artificial plant material in any division. 11. NGC Top Exhibitor Awards may be given if all requirements are met. See Design and Horticulture rules or requirements and scale of points for the Top Exhibitor Awards. 12. This schedule is the law of the show. All entries must conform DIVISION I HORTICULTURE Horticulture Rules 1. All entries in Horticulture will be judged according to the General Rules and the Flower Show Judging Scale of Points found in the National Garden Clubs, Inc. Handbook for Flower Shows (Revised 2007) found on pages and revisions specified in The National Gardener, the quarterly Journal o the National Garden Clubs, Inc. 2, Cut annuals, biennials and perennials must have been grown by the exhibitor and be in the exhibitor's possession for at least 90 days. Container grown plants must have been in the exhibitor's possession no less than 90 days. 3. Entry cards need to be correctly filled out and the entry must be identified to include genus and species and/or variety or cultivar where available. This information must be present to be eligible for a top national award.

5 4. All cut plant material exhibits: Exhibitors must supply their own clear glass vases/containers that have no distracting markings. Place exhibitor's name on bottom of container. Wedging and/or anchoring materials to be keep the exhibit upright is permitted. Wedging or anchoring materials cannot protrude above the lip of the container. 5. No substance (spray, oil, dye, etc.) may be applied to enhance the entries natural shine or color. Cut fruits or vegetables are not permitted. 6. Length of cut branches of trees and shrubs is 12" - 30" from apical tip to the cut end, unless otherwise specified. All entries must be well groomed, cleaned and pest free. 7. ification consultants will be available to help in determining class or sub-class for entries. We encourage you to study this information on your own before entering. 8. es may be subdivided at the discretion of the ification and/or Placement Chair. Judges may request reclassification when a class is too large. 9. Double potting of container plants is permitted as specified in the schedule. Top dressing is permitted (Pot size 12" or less at top opening). 10. Please call the Flower Show committee Chairs with your questions. HORTICULTURE AWARDS National Garden Clubs, Inc. Awards Arboreal Award This a Section Award which may be presented to a properly named blue ribbon winner scoring 95 points or more in Section H. It is represented by a rosette of green ribbon in two shades. Award of Horticultural Excellence- This award may be given to the exhibit judged as the finest in the entire Horticultural Division. The winner must be a properly named blue ribbon winner scoring 95 points or more. It is represented by a rosette of green, orange and blue ribbons. This award is available to all sections.

6 Award of Merit- This is a Section Award which may be presented to properly named blue ribbon winners scoring 95 points or more. It is represented by a rosette of orange ribbons and may be awarded in Sections A,B,F, and G. Grower's Choice Award - This Section Award may be presented to a properly named blue ribbon winner scoring 95 points or more in Sections D and E. It is represented by a rosette of dark green ribbons. Sweepstakes Award- This may be awarded to the exhibitor receiving the most blue ribbons in the Horticultural Division. In the event of a tie, red ribbons will be counted. It is represented by a rosette of green and white ribbons. Division I Horticulture es "No doubt we love this land" Section A- Roses (Cut Stems) If properly named, eligible for Award of Merit, Award of Horticulture Excellence and Sweepstakes Award. : 1. 10 DIVISION II DESIGN DESIGN RULES Design Rules 1. Flower Show General Rules apply. 2. Plant material need not have been grown by the exhibitor. The design must be the work of one individual. 3. Only one entry is permitted by an exhibitor in each class. 4. Reservations are not required but is encouraged for all classes. We need to know how much room will be needed. 5. Design must be the work of one individual. All designs must contain some plant material. No artificial flowers, foliage, fruit or vegetables are permitted. Fresh plant material may not be treated to enhance the natural fresh condition of material in any manner. Dried or glycerolized plant material or contrived flowers made from recognizable plant material are permitted, except where prohibited by the schedule. Cut fruits or vegetables must be properly sealed. 6. Background panels and/or underlays are permitted in all classes. When using accessories any religious symbols must be displayed in a respectful manner and in accordance with policies of local religious organizations. USA and other national flags must be displayed in accordance with proper flag etiquette. 7. titles are intended to stimulate the imagination, not be taken literally. The designer has the freedom to choose Traditional or Creative style with any design unless prohibited by the schedule. 8. Exhibitors should list properly named plant material on a 3 by 5 card. Place card with entry card. 9. If a designer has promised an arrangement and cannot fulfill the promise, please have the courtesy to let the show chair know the situation. 10. Please call the Flower Show Co-Chairs with questions. 11. All entries in Design will be judged according to the rules and the Flower Show Judging Scale of Points found in the National Garden Clubs, Inc. DESIGN AWARDS NATIONAL GARDEN CLUBS, INC. DESIGN AWARDS National Garden Clubs, Inc. Design Awards A minimum of three classes per section with a minimum of four entries per class is required for all NGC top awards.

11 Award of Design Excellence This award may be offered to the highest scoring exhibit in the entire Design Division entered by a single exhibitor. It is represented by a rosette of gold ribbons. This award is available to all sections. Two Designer s Choice Award These awards may be given in Section "B" and or "C "to a blue ribbon scoring 95 points or higher. Exhibitors have complete freedom to choose plant materials and other elements for their designs, within NGC policies. It is represented by a rosette of purple ribbons. Sweepstakes Award This may be awarded to the exhibitor receiving the most blue ribbons in the Design Division. In the event of a tie, red ribbons will be counted. It is represented by a rosette of green and white ribbons. Award of Distinction - This award may be given in Section " A" to a blue ribbon scoring 95 points or higher. All plant material in design must be dried. The award is represented by a rosette of Brown Ribbons. DIVISION II DESIGN CLASSES PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN SECTION A. All exhibits will be viewed at a height of 40" above the floor on an open surface area covered with a white table cloth. Accessories permitted in all classes. Back Panels, Niches and underlays permitted in each class. Eligible or the Award of Distinction, Award of Design Excellence and Sweepstakes Award 1. High Spirits A 3" miniature design. All plant material used in design must be dried, however, other nonplant material, e.g., wire, Plexiglas, rocks, may be included and may dominate. 2. 4TH OF JULY A 3" miniature design. 13 DIVISION III SPECIAL EXHIBITS VICTORY GARDENING 1. The purpose of special exhibits is to instruct and inform the public on the goals and objectives of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. 2. These exhibits may reflect any phase of garden club work or other areas of community interest. 3. Artificial plant material may not be included in any exhibit. The use of Fresh plant material is encouraged. Dried plant material may be altered to change its appearance. 4. Educational Top Exhibitor Award of a Rosette of brown and white ribbons may be awarded to the highest scoring Educational exhibit of 95 points or more in Exhibit 1 or An Artistic Craft Award of a Rosette of navy ribbons with gold lettering may be awarded in classes 3, 4, 5, and 6 to the highest scoring exhibit of 95 points or more.
