(Collins World English Dictionary) Over the past 86 years the Tampa Garden Club has hosted and inspired beautiful celebrations for families and the community. Club Activities emphasize the creation of beautiful yards, homes and creating Floral Designs to enhance these special times such as. Weddings, Anniversaries, Flowers Shows, and Horticultural Extravaganzas This year our garden has erected a Pergola to enhance future celebrations enriching the legacy and making new memories for futures generations of Tampa. The pergola represents the bridging of the past to the future. Please enjoy the table settings and designs our members have created to make celebrations and events worth remembering. Class III Holiday Market The market is a project of the Tampa Federation of Garden Club Circles. Circle vendors as well as our community supporters are invited to offer a variety of gift and garden oriented wares. There is space for indoor as well as outdoor vendors. 14 3

Class 18 Class 19 Class 20 Roses Tropicals Any Other Class 1 Educational Division III Special Exhibits The educational exhibits will be displayed in 40 wide X 8 tall window greenhouses, backed with lattice. The exhibitor will furnish backgrounds if desired. Educational Exhibit Rules 1. The exhibit must occupy a minimum of 18 square feet of surface area. 2. Handout materials add to the educational value, but are not required. 3. Each part of the exhibit should contribute to the distinctive overall effect. 4. 5 Section C Arbor Day Arboreal Shrubs and Trees (Eligible for An Arboreal Award) Fresh cut branches from evergreen or deciduous shrubs or trees grown for the beauty of foliage, flowers, fruit or cones. Maximum length 30 inches, must include several nodes and a apical tip. Class 12 Class 13 Class 14 Foliage Branch Flowering Branch Fruited /Coned Berried /Branch Section D State Fairs Combination Plantings (Eligible for Growers Choice Award) Class 15 Planters At least 3 different plants grown together with similar cultural needs in an attractive container. They may be foliage, or blooming, Class 16 Dish Gardens This includes, terrarium and fairy gardens. Must have a landscape element. May use accessories. Class 17 Vertical Hanging Succulent Garden ( Challenge). Hanging frames were distributed for growing these gardens. (Eligible for special club award) General Rules 1. Only members of this club and invited guests may enter the show. (continued next page) 2. Entries in the Design Division must be pre-registered with the Design Entries Chairman, by October 10, Horticultural entries must be pre registered with the Horticultural Chairman by October 15, All exhibits will be accepted from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday October 30, Judging will begin at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 31, Only the General Chairman and the Classification Chairmen, and the clerks will be allowed on the show floor during time of the judging. Judging will be by the NCG Standard System of Awarding, Handbook For Flower Shows Revised 2007 Edition and addition found in The National Gardener and on the NGC web page. 6. The General Chairman and the Classification Chairman must be available during all judging for possible consultations 7. The Classification Chairmen for the Horticulture and Design Divisions must review all entries for proper identification and conformity to the schedule. 8. The decision of the judges is final. Awards may be with held if not merited 9. Plants on the state's endangered or conservation plant list must be grown by the exhibitor or collected in a legal manner and so identified. (State policy prevails.) Noxious weeds and plants on the state's invasive plant list will be so marked. List can be downloaded: athttp:// There must be an emphasis on fresh plant material. No artificial plant material will be allowed in any Division. 11. All horticulture and designs must be placed on October 30, 10 am to 7:pm. 12. All entries and exhibits must be removed between 4pm and 5:30pm on Nov

6 Awards The NGC Standard System of Awards One first place (blue) ribbon per class Must score 90 or above. One second place (red) ribbon per class. Must score 85 or above. One third place (yellow) ribbon per class. Must score 80 or above. One or more honorable mention (white) ribbons as merited. Must score 75 or above. Judges will sign, date and write 90+, if merited, on entry cards that do not win a blue ribbon A Best-in- Show Award (Gold Rosette) will be offered in the Design Division. The winning exhibit must be blue ribbon winners scoring 90 or above. - Section Awards will be given in Horticulture., (3) Growers Choice Awards (Rosette Green) for container grown plants, Section A, B, and C. (1) Arboreal Award (Two tone Light and dark green Rosette) for Section D. (1) Award of Merit (Rosette orange) for Section E. - Section winners will be eligible for a ' Best in Show' Horticultural Award. (Rosette blue, orange and green ribbons) It will be given to the exhibit scoring 90 or above and must be correctly named according to schedule specifications. Awards of Appreciation (Lavendar Rosettes) will be given to the Educational Exhibits and Invitational Exhibits. A special Challenge Award will be give to best hanging vertical succulent garden. 6 Section A : Garden Tours Blooming Container Grown Plants (Eligible for a Growers Choice Award) (All blooming plants including succulents and cactus, orchids, Bromeliad,, begonias etc.)(single or Self multiples allowed) Class 6 Container 3"-6" Class 7 Container 6"-14 " Class 8 Mounted or Hanging Section B Earth Day Foliage Container Grown Plants (Eligible for a Growers Choice Award) (All foliage plants including succulents and cactus, ferns, Bromeliads, begonias etc.)(single or Self multiples allowed) Class 9 Container 3"-6" Class 10 Container 6"-14 " Class 11 Hanging or Mounted 11

7 Design Rules Horticulture Rules 1. Cut specimens should not have foliage below the water line. 2. Double potting is permitted, but the inner pot must not be visible. 3. All entry cards should be filled out in advance, if possible, and if handwritten, should be in pencil or water-proof pen to avoid water damage. 4. The Classification Chairman has the authority to subdivide classes as necessary. 5. The Scale of Points for Judging horticulture is listed on ppp of the Handbook. 1. A design entered in competition must be the work of only one exhibitor and that exhibitor's name must appear on the entry card. 2. An exhibitor may enter as many classes in the Design Division as desired unless the schedule limits the number of entries, but only one exhibit per class. 3. Fresh plant material may not be treated in any manner. Plant material that has been treated to alter its exterior appearance may be used only in its dried state. 4. The designer has the freedom to choose Traditional or Creative style with any design type listed unless restricted by the schedule. 5. If a designer is unable to fulfill an assignment, it is the designer's responsibility to provide a replacement. 6. Plant material used in designs need not have been grown by the exhibitor unless the schedule requires it. Division II Horticulture Many community celebrations and events revolve around Horticulture such as Trees:Arbor Day, or Crops: Strawberry or Kumquat. They reflect our agricultural heritage. Garden clubs often show off the beautiful unique gardens of the community with home and garden tours. These events draw people together to celebrate the bounty and beauty of the land. (All correctly name blue ribbon winners scoring 90 or above are eligible for the Best-in Show Award) 7. No artificial flowers, foliage, fruits or vegetables are permitted in the Design Division. 8. Landscapes or scenes are not permitted in the Design Division. 9. Refer to pp of the Handbook for things permitted in all design classes unless prohibited by the schedule or by law. 11. 8 Division I - Design Section A Celebrations to Rejoice (Eligible for the Best in Show Design Award) Pick your celebration and design a Buffet Table.to commemorate the occasion for future generations to remember. Class 1 Traditional Celebrations (4 entries) Traditional celebrations revolve around National, Religious and Cultural or Ethnic Holiday's. They are characterized by rites and symbols and usually involve family food and flowers and connect to wider communities. Whether it be Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Valentines or Fourth of July. A Functional Buffet Table for four designed for ease of service and logical placement with some serving items and a proportional floral design. This will be staged on a 5ft table provided by the committee, against the east wall of the Conservatory Table cover provided by the exhibitor. Consultant Patty Jenkins Class 2 Family Celebrations( 4 entries) These more intimate celebrations are personal such as Anniversaries, Graduations Birthdays, Christenings or maybe the renewal of Wedding vows. They many be celebrated by smaller gatherings with seated dinners. The exhibitor should choose their special celebration and design a Capsule table,( A functional table restricted to one place setting.with a representative table setting and design). This will be staged on a table 24inches in diameter provided by the committee. The exhibitor will provide table cover. Consultant- Patty Jenkins Class 3: Community Celebrations(4 entries) Communities choose to celebrate their country, towns, neighborhoods with celebrations ranging from Parades or Speeches or Ceremonies placing flowers on memorials.. and those individuals for have contributed to the community such as Founders Day, Veterans Day, Arbor Day, or Gasparilla, The Exhibitor will make A Creative Design, (The designer uses forms and shapes in unusual ways to create a design) suitable for placement in a Public place, such as in the Library, Lobby of a Building to Commemorate a Community event. This will be staged on 30 "high, 16"Square Pedestal. Exhibitor will provide underlay if desired. Consultant Kay Miller Class 4 Celebrations of Self (4 entries) Sometimes is important to celebrate ourselves, to look into the mirror and reward or honor what we see and commemorate some thing personal that defines our uniqueness. The Exhibitor will let us know or not what personal celebration is represented by the Creative Reflective Design.(A design containing materials/s that reflect, give back images of light or other components to the viewer) for their personal celebration staged on a 30"high, 16"square pedestal on the west wall. There are outlets available if needed. Exhibitor will provide underlay if desired. Consultant Patty Jenkins Class 5 Children's Celebrations (3 entries) Is it a birth or a birthday, a communion or Bar Mitzvah or just a play date under the pergola? Choose your celebration and create a Miniature Creative Design to signify the event.. The design should be no larger than 5 inches and will be staged on one third of 30"diameter tall table..
