3 page 3 little sprouts at the Garden june o little sprouts at the Garden Thursdays, June 1, 8, 15, 22, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Enjoy the beauty of the Garden with your child in the Little Sprouts Program. We ll use our senses to explore plants, fountains, art in the Garden, and much more as we make new friends and discover summer surprises. Each week will feature a different area of the Garden on our walk. Classes will also include indoor hands-on activities, songs, a story, and a snack. To ensure the highest quality experience for all participants, each child must be accompanied by an adult, and children under the age limit will not be admitted. Four-week series: $72 ($64 for members). Little Sprouts is offered on Thursdays for four weeks beginning June 1, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Classes are designed to give you special time with your child or grandchild as she or he explores early childhood curiosities about the natural world.

Each class will explore a different area of the Garden and includes time outdoors, classroom discussion, a craft, and a snack. Some classes also include a story. Classes are designed to give you special time with your child or grandchild as she or he explores early childhood curiosities about the natural world. To ensure the highest quality experience for all participants, each child must be accompanied by an adult, and children under the age limit will not be admitted. During the day programs on Thursday and Friday, we will create, hike, and explore! Then Friday evening something wonderful happens when this day program turns into an overnight program with one adult family member staying with each child. This is a great way for an adult to see the program through their child s eyes. As we discover how the Chihuly blown-glass exhibit mimics nature, we ll draw, paint, sculpt, and use natural materials to make our own creations. crime scene investigators July 10 14, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 3 Journey into the real world of forensics by practicing techniques used by scientists to solve crimes. Learn how to analyze physical evidence for clues, lift fingerprints, and gather samples for laboratory testing. We ll use these methods to solve our own mystery and become crime scene detectives. oodles of -ologies July 24 28, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 4 Ecology, biology, entomology, geology... What are all these -ologies? Find out as we explore the science of habitats, plants, animals, rock formations, and much more. Ethnobotany becomes Herbology, and levitation is actually just the physics of flying... a broomstick! We ll concoct potions and make wands probably a wizard s most important piece of equipment. After this fun-filled week, you ll not only understand some of the real magic that happens in our Muggle world, but also discover that being a Muggle is not so bad after all! 2 art in the garden June 19 23, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Let the Garden inspire your child s creativity. Art is everywhere in the Garden and we ll explore the many forms art can take. We will spend our days exploring, hiking, and making our own scientific discoveries and unique creations. Our evenings will be filled with night hikes, insect safaris, astronomy, and other exciting activities. What could be better than a week in the woods with friends? Come enjoy a week of outdoor explorations at the Litzsinger Road Ecology Center. Participate in fossil hunting, ecology studies and critter investigations. Engage in nature journaling and sample foods of the wild. Drop-off and pick-up at LREC survivor 1 July 31 August 4 Monday, 9 a.m. to Friday, 4 p.m. *$400 ($350 Garden members) Get a real feel for surviving in Missouri a week packed with adventure and fun! You will spend 5 days and 4 nights learning the ropes of teamwork, competition, and survival. Be prepared the lodges are really nice, but what happens when you and your team have to survive the night in a tent in the middle of the Reserve? It will be an exciting week as you make new friends and fun memories. Drop-off and pick-up at the Dana Brown Overnight Education Center 4 5 survivor 2 July Monday, 9 a.m. to Friday, 4 p.m. *$400 ($350 Garden members) Make this summer your time for adventure be part of Survivor 2 at Shaw Nature Reserve! You will spend 5 days and 4 nights at the Dana Brown Overnight Education Center engaging in challenges, learning to use GPS units, surviving on the land, and exploring many of the reasons why Missouri is so exciting! Bring your bike to ride around the Reserve if you have one! (Bikes will be provided for those who don t have access to one.) We will even take a day trip to Meramec State Park to explore a cave. The ERC is a four-week service-learning program for high school students focusing on restoration of watershed and prairie habitats. Most days will be spent outdoors developing skills in field work, plant identification, and orienteering. Group discussions, projects, and field trips will supplement the hands-on learning.
