SECTION 1 - INTRODUCTION 1.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION The control unit 1801MR, represents the most technologically advanced solution on the market in the field of fire detection and extinguishing for industrial applications. The card 1801MR is interfacing through the supervised input circuits directly with the detection loops (smoke, temperature, flame and voltage-free contacts) it generates the relating alarm and fault controls (both Open Collectors and Relay). The use of the SINGLE CHIP microprocessor, available on all the 1800 family, surely offers great advantages, both in application and in reliability. Through the Dip Switches on the card, it s possible to configure the functional parameters of the product to make it suitable to the various applications, such as the configuration of the supervised inputs with contact normally open (N.O.) or normally closed (N.C.). The selection of the card operation as cross zone or single zone, the configuration of the Open Collectors and relays outputs, normally de-activated and/or de-energised or activated and/or energised, storage of the relay outputs with mode Latching o No Latching. Other selection are for the short-circuit on the supervised inputs seen as fault or Alarm. A complete self-diagnostics, enabled by the use of the micro-processor, allows both the control and the check of card functionality in all its parts, by activating, in case of damage, the relating malfunction outputs (Fault). On the front panel of the card are present the redundant LED signals that visualise the status of activation and fault of the supervised inputs, of the operating mode in cross zone and the signal of active card (Ready) dependant from the Watch Dog circuit. The push-buttons on the front panel allow to perform the test and inhibition operations of the two Zones dedicated to the fire detection. Note: The operations performed through front key-board are stored inside the card in a permanent way and are kept stored also switching-off the power supply. The control unit makes available on the connector DIN at 32 pins, the following main signals: Power Supply 24 V DC Supervised Inputs Open Collectors Outputs Relay Outputs Page 4 of MR 3he Instructions Manual - SES-KS-1801MR3HE-E Rev. 3

2.5.2 Operations on Front Panel On the front panel there are 2 pushbuttons associated to the following functions: INHIBITION Zone 1 and Zone 2 (INH INP): By pressing the pushbutton INH INP, the input Zone 1 will go to inhibit condition; this condition will be indicated by the slow flashing of the fault LEDs of the input. By activating, a second time, the pushbutton INH INP, the input Zone 1 will go back to normal operating condition, while the input Zone 2 will be de-activated, this condition will be indicated by the slow flashing of the fault LEDs of the input. By activating, a third time, the pushbutton INH INP, both the inputs, Zone 1 AND Zone 2, will be de-activated. A last activation of the pushbutton INH INP, will restore the two inputs to the normal operating condition. The Inhibition function is valid for both operating modes in Single Zone and Crossed Zone and it is indicated by the signals activation (OC6=Z1 - OC7=Z2). An Alarm signal, on an inhibited input, will be ignored. It is suggested to perform the plant Reset and to press ACK and RESET before leaving the inhibit condition. In case the Zones 1 and/or 2 are in Alarms condition, it will not be possible to activate the inhibition function. NOTE:. The function of INHIBITION will be permanently stored on the E 2 PROM. TEST Pushbutton: The TEST function allows the visualisation, through the leds on the front panel, of the status of supervised inputs/outputs, inhibiting the operation of the O.C. outputs and Relay. Therefore, by performing the TEST function, it will be possible to make alarm tests of the devices installed on the plant, without activating the alert logic. To activate the TEST function, proceed as follows: Inhibit the supervised inputs Zone 1 and Zone 2 (as previously described) Press the TEST pushbutton; the selection of such function will be indicated by the quick flashing of the fault LEDs of the inhibited (Zone 1, Zone 2 and E.V.). To de-activate the TEST function and to restore the normal system operation, proceed as follows: Press the TEST pushbutton, the slow flashing of the fault LEDs of the channels Zone 1, Zone 2 and the validation of the supervised input (E.V.) will confirm the restoration of the inhibition mode. Press the pushbutton INH INP; the inputs, Zone 1 and Zone 2, will go back to the normal operating mode. If, during TEST condition, the INH INP pushbutton is pressed, the supervised inputs will be activated. Once the tests of the field components have been completed, make sure, through the restoring controls (ACK, RESET), that all alarms on the supervised inputs are cancelled. Should there be still continuous alarms, check the relevant devices, by staying in TEST condition. 1801MR 3he Instructions Manual - SES-KS-1801MR3HE-E Rev. 3 Page 9 of 24
2.5.3 Controls From External Digital Input (1810F) For the management of the ACK controls (alarm recognition), RESET (alarm cancellation), LAMP TEST, SES ASA ENGINEERING S.r.L. has realised the 1810F Facility Card. This has the same connections and the same mechanical sizes of the 1801MR card. On its front panel there are located three pushbuttons. ACKNOWLEDGE, RESET AND LAMP TEST. For additional details see manual SES-KS-1810F, available on request, or unload from Company s web site: ACK Pushbutton (alarm recognition): The supervised input channels are configured to operate with the following Alarms management: ISA-1 ISA2C Summarising table of Alarms management sequences, according to ISA-RP181 recommendation. 11 SECTION 3 - INSTALLATION 3.1 RECEIPT OF MATERIAL All the equipment supplied by SES ASA ENGINEERING S.R.L. is packed in such a way to be protected against physical damages. The content of each package will have to be carefully checked at the moment of receipt. Any discrepancy noticed at the receipt must be communicated to SES ASA ENGINEERING S.R.L. within 10 days from the receipt of the material. SES ASA ENGINEERING S.R.L. will not be responsible for eventual damages in case such communication is not sent within the indicated term. Eventual damages will have to be claimed in writing, also to the forwarder who has undertaken the shipment. In any case, every written communication must be issued indicating the product model and its serial number. 3.2 EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION Even though the control unit is built in such a way to be free from electromagnetic interference, it is advisable to install it in places far away from disturbing sources, such as motors, etc. The connecting cables to the field sensors must be provided with total shielding and draining thread. The shielding must be connected only in safe zone, i.e. on the control unit side. Should the modules be installed in closed environment (cabinets), it will have to be taken into consideration the maximum power dissipation, depending from the available space, so as to avoid excessive heating; if necessary, a suitable ventilation system must be provided. In the applications with several cards of different types being installed in the same rack, check the type of input foreseen for a specific rack slot, be consistent with the type of card mounted in it. 3.3 INSTALLATION OF FIELD DETECTORS The installation of the instrumentation in dangerous areas must be performed according to the specific norms of the country where the plant is installed. 3.4 DETECTORS DISPLACEMENT Does not exist a specific norm that prescribes in a clear way the installation position of the fire detectors; it is anyway good practice to check the covering area of it, in order to determine their quantity. They should not be installed near forced air points. There are available collecting kits or samples for smoke detectors. SES ASA ENGINEERING S.R.L. is ready to supply his qualified experience for the study of the feasibility according to the various plant types. 1801MR 3he Instructions Manual - SES-KS-1801MR3HE-E Rev. 3 Page 11 of 24
SECTION 4 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 4.1 SUPERVISED INPUTS - Inputs Zone 1 and Zone 2. (Zone 1, Zone 2) To these inputs there are connected the smoke, temperature, flame sensors and those sensors provided with voltage-free alarm contacts. For the correct operation of the supervision circuit, it is necessary to install an alarm resistance in series with the contact of each device and an end-line resistance in parallel with the contact of the last device installed (par. 4.11). For the effect consequent to Alarm activation, see paragraph: Operating Logic Single Zone and Cross Zone (par. 4.5 and 4.6). General notes valid for all the Supervised Inputs: Each supervised input detects the fault condition if the line resistance is higher than 5,6 kohm (open line) or less than 350 Ohm (short-circuit). Each supervised line or Loop must be closed with an end-line resistance of 3,3 kohm, 2 Watt. The resistive value for the alarm condition is 1 kohm, 2 Watt (between 350 Ohm and 2 kohm). If a line is not used, close the following jumpers: - JP1 activates the end-line resistance on Zone 1. - JP2 activates the end-line resistance on Zone 2 The input short-circuit can be considered as alarm by pre-setting ON the following Dip of SW2 on the card: - DP1 ON: short-circuit = Alarm Zone 1 - DP2 ON: short-circuit = Alarm Zone 2 On the inputs Zone 1 and Zone 2 it is possible to pre-set the alarm condition in input as normal operation (close input on 1 kohm), obtaining the alarm in case of input in stand-by (close input with 3,3 kohm). Such configuration will be used for the management of the contacts normally closed, for example for monitoring the door safety, for supervising sprinkler systems and thermal detectors. Such condition will be stated by the position taken by SW1 on the card: SW1 - DP7 ON: LOOP1 configured for contacts in input normally closed SW1 - DP8 ON: LOOP2 configured for contacts in input normally closed Page 12 of MR 3he Instructions Manual - SES-KS-1801MR3HE-E Rev. 3
4.2 OPEN COLLECTORS OUTPUTS Open Collectors outputs not supervised - The outputs O.C.1 and O.C.2, relating to the alarms of the supervised input channels Zone 1 and Zone 2, can be configured, through DP4 of SW1, for the fix activation (Dip in position OFF) or flashing (Dip in position ON). Furthermore, they can operate, through relay, also acoustic alerting systems, Switch-off through control ACK. To configure this function we have to set, in position ON, the DP1 of SW1: O.C.1 will take the function of Control Siren Zone 1 (or Pre-Alarm Siren if Cross-Zone), while the O.C.2 will take the function of Control Siren Zone 2 (or Alarm Siren if Cross-Zone). It is possible to configure both the relay outputs K1 and K2 and those at Open Collector O.C.1 and O.C.2, through the DP6 of SW1, as normally activated (Dip in position ON) or normally de-activated (Dip in position OFF). - The output O.C.3 is the signal of cumulative Fault. This is normally active in absence of Fault. - The output O.C.4 is Not Configured (Free). - The output O.C.5 is the event signal waiting for switching off (Alarm or Fault). It will be deactivated through the control ACK. - The output O.C.6 is the signal relating to the Inhibit Status of Zone 1. The INH-INP key, present on front panel will activate it. - The output O.C.7 is the signal relating to the Inhibit Status of Zone 2. The INH-INP key, present on front panel will activate it. The signals Open Collectors from O.C.1 to O.C.7 are active towards logic mass (0 Volt). For the use of the outputs O.C. see the connection diagram par CARD OPERATION At the moment of card activation, the microprocessor reads the status of the Dip-Switches that are setting the operating functions, including the Alarm management with sequence ISA, the selection of the relay outputs and Open Collectors (for the pre-setting of the Dip-Switches see table par. 4.9). In this phase all the LEDs of the front panel are off, except for the Cross Zone, if activated, the outputs are de-activated, so, it starts a waiting time of a few seconds indicated by the absence of the sign READY on the front panel. This waiting time allows to the detection system to reach a stationary operating condition. During this waiting phase, the card does not generates any output, after one second the READY signal activates, as well as, after 5 seconds. If activated, the Cross Zone activates immediately. 14 4.4 ISA SEQUENCE It is possible to configure, through the Dip Switch DP7 of SW2, two different card operations with sequence ISA-1 and ISA-2C. - Sequence ISA 1, DP7-SW2 OFF ( NO-LATCHING function) When an alarm happens on a supervised input, we have the following effects: - The alarm LEDs of the relating channel will flash - The output O.C.5 will be activated - The relating outputs O.C./relay assigned to the channels will be activated. By pressing the pushbutton ACK on the front panel 1810F, or activating by remote control, the LEDs will fix and the output O.C.5 will be de-activated. When the reason causing the alarm has disappeared, the LEDs on the front panel will switch off and the relating output O.C./Relay will be de-activated. When all reasons that have caused Alarms or Faults have disappeared, the card will automatically restore, even without pressing the recognition pushbutton ACK. - Sequence ISA 2C, DP7-SW2 ON e DP3-SW1 ON (LATCHING function) When an alarm happens on a supervised input, we have the following effects: - The alarm LEDs of the relating channel will flash - The output O.C.5 will be activated. - The relating outputs O.C./relay assigned to the channels will be activated. By pressing the pushbutton ACK on the front panel, or activating by remote control, the LEDs will fix and the output O.C.5 will be de-activated. When the reason causing the Alarm has disappeared, the LEDs and the relating outputs O.C./Relay will be kept active (storing condition). By pressing the pushbutton RESET on the front panel or activating the remote control, the card goes back to the normal operating condition. Depending from the selection of the Dip Switch (see table par. 4.9), the card can perform two different operating logic: single Zone or Cross Zone. Page 14 of MR 3he Instructions Manual - SES-KS-1801MR3HE-E Rev. 3
4.5 OPERATING LOGIC SINGLE ZONE This logic is used when we want to activate Alarm with only one of the two detectors loop (Zone 1 Zone 2). The card is put, for its operation, in Single Zone pre-setting OFF the DP2 of SW1. In such operating condition the relating signal of Cross Zone, located on the front panel, is Off. In case of Alarm (Activation) of Zone 1: - The relating Alarm signal on the front panel activates (according to selected ISA sequence) - The relay K1 and O.C.1 activate - The output O.C.5 is operated, it can be switched off through activation of the remote control ACK or from front panel 1810F. In case of Alarm (Activation) of Zone 2: - It behaves exactly as Zone 1, but it will activate the relay K2 and OC2. In case of Fault of Zones 1 / 2 (open line, short-circuit or in test condition): - The relating Fault signal on the front panel activates - The relay K3 and O.C.3. activates - The relay K4 for Zone 1 activates - The relay K5 for Zone 2 activates - The output O.C.5 is operated and it can be switched off by the activation of ACK remote control or from front panel 1810F Note: the general Fault signals K3 (K4 - K5 ONLY Rev.1.11) and O.C.3 are activated also for: - Lack of internal card power supply - Fault of logic section. (Only K3 O.C.3) See also section 4.9 and OPERATING LOGIC CROSS ZONE This logic is used in case you want to activate with both of the two detectors loop (Zone 1 Zone 2), or by Alarm of one channel and Fault of the other one. The card is set for its operation in Cross Zone by putting in position ON the DP2 of SW1 (CRZ). In such operating condition the relating signal of Cross Zone placed on the front panel will be On (lighted). The relay K1 and the output O.C.1 have the meaning of Warning, therefore they are activated if one of the two channels (Zone 1 or Zone 2) are activated. The relay K2 and the output O.C.2 have the meaning of Alarm, therefore they are operating if both input channels of the sensors (Zone 1 or Zone 2) are activated, or by Alarm of one channel and Fault by the other one. 21 SECTION 5 - MAINTENANCE 5.1 GENERAL NOTES After having been correctly installed, the systems required very little maintenance. The whole system (field materials and electronics) should be tested at least once a year. The yearly check will have to include the following points: 1. Make sure that the detectors are correctly responding to the presence of smoke/high temperature and that they had no damages from external agents. 2. Check that the cables and connections are complete and in good conditions. 3. Check that the complete system is fully corresponding to the needs of the plant. 5.2 STOCKING 1. The electronic modules will have to be stocked according to the warehousing conditions. 2. Should the electronic modules be transported or stocked for a long time, they must be packed into antistatic envelopes. 5.3 TROUBLE SHOOTING The following information is supplied as guide to diagnose some of the most common operating problems. In cause of fault, the repair must be done always by personnel authorised by SES ASA ENGINEERING S.r.L. Any repair or tampering effected by non-authorised personnel will cause the termination of the guarantee. TROUBLE (FAULT) POSSIBLE CAUSE REMEDY Line of smoke detecting sensors not working Card not operating (permanent RESET ) Supervised input Loop in fault status Loop voltage too low. Jumper JP13 closed Lack of end line resistance 3,3kOhm Supply power suitable to the system absorption. Use power supply cables of suitable size. Open Jumper JP13. Install end line resistance The above can be considered as a suggestion in case of fault or failure. A fault may happen occasionally and therefore it is difficult to detect the reason why; in case the problem still exists, after having performed the suggested operations, or should it not be included in the above table, please contact SES ASA ENGINEERING S.r.L. or one of its representatives. 1801MR 3he Instructions Manual - SES-KS-1801MR3HE-E Rev. 3 Page 21 of 24
