1 Friday Fast Facts August 12, 2016 Volume 4 Issue 16 On August 11, 2016, Titusville Police Department held their annual Kicks for Guns event in the Wild Ocean Parking lot from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. There were a total of 63 firearms and 8 BB guns collected. A $50 gift card was given for each firearm that was turned in and $10 gift cards for the BB guns. During the event, an individual came to speak with officers to express his gratitude and appreciation for their service. He was the victim of an armed robbery at a gas station last week in Orlando and is still recovering from a gunshot wound. Another couple stopped to donate a quilt that the wife had made for the department. Special thanks go to Wild Ocean Seafood Market, Bimbo Bakeries, Valentino s Garden St, McDonald s Garden St. and Fire House Subs for all of the delicious food, drinks and snacks provided to those working the event. On August 6, 2016 Titusville Fire & Emergency Services provided a station tour at Station 12. Station 12 s crew consisted of Lieutenant Dave Cody, Acting Driver Operator Andrew Johnson and Firefighter Michael Schettino. The visitors were Landon, dressed as a small firefighter celebrating his birthday with three of his friends. A total of 11 children and parents attended the event. Page 1 of 6

Hundreds of students received backpacks at no charge filled with the supplies that they will need during the next school year! On August 4, 2016, Titusville Police provided escort for the transport of a military satellite from the Astrotech building to the Kennedy Space Center. Page 2 of 6

3 Page 3 of 6 On August 6, 2016 Titusville Fire & Emergency Services participated in the Back to School Bash sponsored by River Lanes. Station 13 provided a Truck Display and participated with the bicycle helmet fitting. Station 13 s crew consisted of Lieutenant Jeremy House, Driver Operator Matt Bowman and Firefighter Dana Hersey. Free bicycle helmets were presented and fitted by Life Safety Specialist Heather Gilmore and Lieutenant Jeremy House. A total of 107 bicycle helmets were distributed at the event.

4 On August 2, 2016, Titusville Police K9 Officers Mark Jennings and Jesse Lengefeld along with their partners Lex and Drako participated in the Clerk of Court s Bring Your Child to Work Day. Lieutenant Chris DeLoach and the K-9 officers provided a demonstration and meet & greet with the participating children and employees. Kenley and Emmerson enjoyed the opportunity to be able to get up close with the K-9s. Congratulations to Titusville Police Department s two newest officers, Frances Santiago and Jorge Cabranes, who were sworn in by Chief Lau on Wednesday, August 3, Family, friends and department staff gathered for the swearing in ceremony to celebrate and welcome the newest members to the department. On August 8, 2016, Titusville Fire & Emergency Services visited Mrs. Pats Wee Care as part of the Heroes Reading Program. Life Safety Specialist Heather Gilmore provided the reading. The book reviewed was Keeping Safe. Page 4 of 6

5 On Wednesday, August 10 th, Titusville Police and Fire department members, were present at all of the public and private schools inside the city to waive to students, parents and faculty as they returned to school from the summer break. This has become a tradition in the city and one that we look forward to each year. The intent is to not only welcome our students back to school but also inform our community that our children will be walking in school zones and to remind them to slow down. The students, parents, and faculty absolutely love this tradition and we thank everyone that was able to participate in the Welcome Back Initiative! On August 9, 2016, Titusville Fire & Emergency Services visited Jack & Jill s Preschool and Nursery as part of the Heroes Reading Program. Life Safety Specialist Heather Gilmore provided the reading.
