1 Safety Notes September 2015 MEMBERSHIP MINUTE by Rod Hamson President Who needs Hollywood stars and red carpets when the true Stars of Safety were gathered together at the Little America Hotel to be recognized? We celebrated the Stars of Safety at this year s Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon. Not only did we give out a record number of awards, we also had the most number of first time winners, and we set a record attendance at nearly 400! Congratulations to all of our winners, and a special thanks to those who are improving their safety programs each year to be considered for our awards. Our meeting would not have been a success without the support from our Board of Directors, our membership, and the most amazing staff! Thank you for making safety a priority in your lives and sharing it with those you work with. You truly are the Stars of Safety. September 2015 Child Passenger Safety Week: September 13-19 Did you know? Over 70% of car seats are installed or used incorrectly.

This can be done through mailing in the registration card attached to the new seat or by going online to the car seat manufacturer website. Never use an expired car seat.

The vehicle and car seat manuals will provide critical information regarding the seat and vehicle. Check for the car seat expiration date while you are reading the manual.

Many seats are equipped with an angle indicator to help. Have your car seat checked by a Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST).

3 September 2015 Child Passenger Safety Week: September Did you know? Over 70% of car seats are installed or used incorrectly. The Utah Safety Council would like to offer a few tips to keep in mind while installing car seats. Register the seat. This can be done through mailing in the registration card attached to the new seat or by going online to the car seat manufacturer website. Never use an expired car seat. Seats generally expire after 6 years. This assures the plastic has not degraded and is strong enough to endure crash forces. Read the manuals. The vehicle and car seat manuals will provide critical information regarding the seat and vehicle. Check for the car seat expiration date while you are reading the manual. Rear face for as long as possible. This is the safest way to ride. Max out the seat weight or height limits. Check the seat for the proper recline angle. Many seats are equipped with an angle indicator to help. Have your car seat checked by a Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST). September 2015 About Our Staff Lora Brown joined us in August as our new full-time Accounting Manager.

Lora has worked in the accounting field for over 17 years with several companies in Utah and California.

In her spare time, Lora likes to spend time with her husband and her cats. She loves to read, cook, collect sea shells and spends as much time on the beach as possible.

Erin received a degree in Graphic Design from the State College of Florida in 2010 and a Bachelor of Science in Communication from the University of Utah in December 2014.
