2 2 Coppell Fire Department Standard Operating Guidelines SOG# Pre-Incident Planning Effective Date: 08/01/2013 Fire Chief: Revised Date: 10/1/2013 Purpose: Scope: To establish a guideline for the Pre-Incident Planning This policy applies to all members of the Fire Department Directions: 1. Pre-incident plans will be performed to gather information about occupancies for members of the Coppell Fire Department to utilize during a fire or other emergency incidents. 2. Occupancies will be selected by the Fire Prevention r. Company rs can request particular occupancies for specific training purposes based on occupancy type, construction type, or general curiosity. 3. The pre-incident plans will be set up giving the occupant advance notice of the fire departments intentions. 4. Fire Prevention will maintain a monthly summary of completed pre-incident plans. 5. Fire Prevention Division will place pre-incident plan event on FireHouse calendar. 6. Time, location, and meeting place will be identified within the Notes tab of FireHouse calendar. 7. During the facility pre-incident plans, if a member encounters any condition(s) that pose(s) a threat of fire or life safety, they will be immediately reported to the officer on site. For pre-incident plans of buildings under construction, members will be expected to wear appropriate personal protective equipment. 8. Crew integrity is recommended so all persons receive the same information. Page 1 of 2

3 3 9. Each pre-incident planned facility will have the appropriate information assembled for future use. At a minimum, the following information must be provided: a. All fire/life safety related equipment. b. Construction type. c. Potential hazards/hazardous materials. d. Building dimensions. e. Significant exposures. f. Directional (orientation) arrow. g. Aerial photo from GIS or Google Maps. 10. Fire Prevention will maintain the map book and address index. The map book is located in the Battalion Chief s vehicle. An additional pre-incident planning map will be placed in the appropriate fire pump/riser room near the fire alarm control panel. Page 2 of 2
