20 STANDING AMIDST FIFTH AVENUE S OTHER ICONIC BUILDINGS PORCELANOSA Group has been settled for the last three years at the heart of world trade in its main artery, New York s Fifth Avenue. That was the place chosen for establishing its flagship store in the Big Apple and turning the emblematic Commodore Criterion building - which dates from the early 20th century - into a global architecture and interior design reference, together with the prestigious Foster + Partners firm. PORCELANOSA Group s New York flagship store stands at the strategic junction with Broadway, on an area of almost 2,000 square metres. It consists of six floors; the lower floors are allocated for the exhibition of products from the eight firms that make up the company, while the upper floors contain offices, meeting rooms, and a spacious area for conferences, seminars, and exhibitions. Designed in 1918 by the prolific architects Ely Jacques Kahn and Albert Buchman, the building on 202 Fifth Avenue required, on the one hand, a profound transformation indoors to adapt spaces to the needs of the company and, on the other hand, a carefully selected exterior restoration that respected the original facade elements, and could thus obtain the full trust of New York s authorities and society. The restoration actions of this emblematic building were personally run by the British architect Norman Foster, Pritzker Prize in 1999 and Prince of Asturias Arts Prize in His purpose was to convert, transform, adapt, and restore spaces and settings for the needs of a PORCELANOSA Group store, an establishment that strengthens the company s international character and its commitment to one of its main markets, the North American market. Aiming to reaffirm, its presence in the United States, where it has over 500 dealers after three decades of business experience, the firm purchased the building next to its flagship store. With it, PORCELANOSA will expand the surface of its facilities to reach 2,516 square metres, divided between a basement, seven floors, and a rooftop. A commitment of the Spanish company, leader in the ceramics and interior design sectors, so that the new Fifth Avenue showroom is an urban and commercial icon. 20
