43 Moss Point Recommended Strategic Actions DESIGN Require development to take the form of interconnected neighborhoods with central public spaces, mixed housing, and neighborhood services within easy walking distance of residents. Concentrate commercial development in a new village center along Route 63. The center is designed to include hotels and restaurants, shops, apartments and live/work housing units. Provide a range of housing types to increase affordability and opportunities for home ownership, aging-in-palce (retirement housing), and movement out of areas prone to flooding.
44 Moss Point Recommended Strategic Actions POLICY Define downtown plan with associated codes encouraging new mixed use, urban development. Adopt policies and codes limiting low density, autooriented development along the City s primary travel corridors, including Main Street and 63. Complete detailed land plan.
45 Moss Point Recommended Strategic Actions MANAGEMENT Develop a industrial/commercial special district east of the airport on Saracina Road. Reserve land for high-employment generating uses requiring large floor plate buildings, and ready rail and highway access. Initiate dialogue with residents regarding relocation options and opportunities. Continue and expand efforts to position Moss Point as a gateway to the region s environmental and cultural resources. Pursue recognition through state and federal heritage area, outdoor recreation, preservation, and environmental programs and initiatives.
