HAFENCITY AS A PART OF THE INNER CITY
HAFENCITY AS A PART OF THE INNER CITY Linking the inner city with the river Elbe Increasing the inner city area of Hamburg by 40% (155 ha in total) Generating residential space for people and about jobs over a time period of 20 years Creating an intense mixed used urban structure Generating a high degree of regional and international attraction via cultural, retail, entertainment and tourism activities City development of the 21. century with a high impact of identification and outstanding quality

CONCEPT FOR HIGH WATER PROTECTION MAIN EMBANKMENT LINE
HafenCity: island in the river Elbe (127 ha) main dyke line
HIGH WATER PROTECTION IN THE HAFENCITY The building of a new dikeline around the area of the HafenCity was discussed at Masterplan conception. But for reasons of timeline, investment and urban design efforts, this conception was not pursued. The high water protection in the HafenCity will be realised by a combination of elevated areas (dwelling mounds) plus protection for the individuell properties and buildings as well as additionel measures on public areas.
HIGH WATER PROTECTION IN THE HAFENCITY The design level for protection is at least mnn In unfavourable zone depending on wind and wave impacts and foreland geometrie up to mnn Same safety at different design levels
HIGH WATER PROTECTION IN THE HAFENCITY A rescuewaysystem as connection to the existing main-dikeline is vor every island-site. It consists of 2 independent high tide proof High tide protection in the HafenCity belongs to the property owners like in other casualties before the main-dikeline begins. The government is just watching the following of the given rules.
HIGH TIDE PROTECTION IN THE HAFENCITY The rules for storm surge protection in the area of the HafenCity contains: - threatened area - responsible persons - creation of communities for stormfloodprot. - insertion of a stormfloodprotection-comissioner - stormfloodprotection-installations - stormfloodprotection-plan - stormfloodprotection-practices
