1 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Epsilon Omega Chapter Chapter Meeting Minutes December 12, 2009 A regularly scheduled meeting was held on Saturday December 12, 2009 at the Ivy Family Support Center Dolfield Avenue, Baltimore, MD. The meeting was called to order by Soror Angela C. Gibson, Basileus, at 10:02 a.m. The Inspirational Opening was given by Soror Audrey Parker followed by the reciting of the pledge. A quorum was established. Yes X Correspondence Soror E. Francine Stokes McElveen A log of the correspondence will be filed with the minutes. READING AND DISPOSITION OF MINUTES Soror Sheila Tidline The Basileus declared the minutes approved as corrected. X REPORT OF OFFICERS Summary Basileus Soror Angela C. Gibson Anti-Basileus of Program Soror Audrey Bennett A written report was provided and will be filed. Soror Angela s wish for 2010 is to be Exciting, Sisterly, and Peaceful. Sorors were encouraged to be mentors to the 82 new Sorors of Alpha Delta. Pink Tea Roses to Soror Audrey and those who participated in the Day of Service Project. Regional Conference material is on line and some is included in the newsletter. The deadline to register is January 30, After January 30, there will be a $75.00 late fee. Soror Angela shared the lost of several Sorors this month: Soror Florence Lewis Blair Rainey and the sister of Sorors Charlotte Harper and Juanita Gates. Soror Roslyn Wood lost a sister. Please remember all of these families in your prayers. The Regional Directors leadership training will take place on Saturday January 9, 2010 in Westchester, NY. Included in the officers who are required to attend will be the Tamiouchos and Standards Chairperson. Soror Angela attended the 100 th birthday celebration of Soror Esther Reid Brown. A written report was provided and will be filed. Highlights of the report is as follows: Epsilon Omega in partnership with the newly initiated Sorors of Alpha Delta enjoyed a beautiful day of celebrating Project Hope on November 21, Our Day of Hope was at the Mattie B. Uzzle Outreach Center. We were able to impact the lives of over 35 women and their children. The women received food, clothing, and household items along with a monetary donation. It is anticipated that the chapter will continue to have a relationship with the center, which is directed by Soror Jewell Gray. Thanks were extended to all who participated in this activity through their presence, contributions, and time. This event was enjoyed and the chapter is committed to continuing a partnership with our undergraduate Sorors.
2 Anti-Basileus of Operations Soror Joann R. Barber Pecunious Grammateus Soror Jan Wood Carter A written report was not provided. As we near the end of the year please note various reports are due to the Regional and National Offices. The due date for these reports is January 1, Therefore, all committee chairs who have not submitted their report were asked to do so. In addition, please attach agendas, pictures and other pertinent information. Pink Tea Roses were extended to Soror Audrey Bennett for her many years of service to the Executive Board as Anti-Basileus and Tamiouchos. Written reports were provided and will be filed. Summary: Total receipts reported for the month of November 2009 was $11, Tamiouchos Sylvia Burke A written report was provided and will be filed. Summary: Total Check Book and Savings Balance is $102, as of November Graduate Reports: Alpha Delta Soror Adrienne Stokes Orange XI Tau Graduate Advisor Soror Lois Knight Harrison Written reports were provided by Alpha Delta and Xi Tau and will be filed. Summary: On November 15, 2009, 82 Sorors were initiated into the Alpha Delta Chapter. The line name is The Resurrection: 82 Pearls of Perfection. Within three weeks they have conducted community service including: Project Hope; campus clean up; collected canned goods with Kappa Alpha Psi; participation with Iota Phi Theta in distributing Thanksgiving food to needy families; and participation in Morgan State University s AIDS Lock-in. They have plans to purchase toys and other goods to donate to children ages The chapter is in need of mentors. The Regional Director would like Epsilon Omega Sorors to volunteer to mentor the young Sorors. A sign up sheet was passed during the chapter meeting. More Sorors are needed on the Graduate Council. Please consider taking the graduate advisor certification during NARC. Soror Kimberly Bruce, the only chapter member, has been busy with service activities. She participated in Morgan State s AIDS Lock-in, the Priceless Gown Project, and she is requesting donations of clothing to support the shelter at St. Johns of Baltimore. The chapter will be selling variety tea bags to support fundraising activities. Epsilon Kappa Graduate Advisor Soror Karen E.P. Foster Epsilon Kappa is still under withdrawal privileges. Once the investigation is completed, a report will be filed with Regional Director, Evelyn Sample Oates. The chapter has hopes of being reinstated by the end of the semester. Members At Large Epsilon Omega Foundation Soror Evelyn McLeod No Reports A written report was provided and will be filed. Summary as follows: Phase II: Renovations of unfinished area will begin in Janauary All items, with the exception of chairs and tables must be removed from the area by December 31. Soror Elizabeth Dyett s last day as Facilitity Mangement Team Leader is December 31, Please call Soror Sylvia Johnson or Soror Evelyn of your interest to fill this position. Soror Odessa Dunston is the Nominating Chair. She encouraged members to consider positions in the Foundation. The annual meeting is Saturday January 16, The agenda includes the structural issues, financial status, and other items. In addition election of officers will occur. The Pink and Green Gala 2010 committee will meet on Tuesday December 15, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. Soror Evelyn thanked the chapter for support during 2009.

Referred to another committee (Explain) G. Oral report in minutes only The deadline for nominations is Saturday December 12, Voting for awards will take place next month. The awards ceremony will take place during Founders Day, Saturday February 20, Bylaws Soror Francine Stokes McElveen History Soror Cardrienne Griffin Disposition of Report: G Report Attached: Yes Soror Francine reminded members that the Bylaws were shared during the October general meeting. The principle changes reflected the expansion of the definition of sponsoring/co-sponsoring sorors. In additon to being financial, sponsoring and co-sponsoring must attend at least (1) Cluster or Regional Conference and one (1) International Conference within four years prior to sponsoring or co-sponsoring an applicant; attend 8 out of 10 Chapter meetings prior sponsoring/co-sponsoring and participate on at least one committee. The Bylaws also listed specific duties of the Basileus. By decision of the Executive at the December meeting, these duties and responsibilites were deleted from the Bylaws. By vote the Executive adopted the creation of a Manual of Standard Procedure to be developed by the Bylaws. This document will specify the duties and responsibilities of the Basileus and will clarify other procedures to enable the membership to execute regulations. Finally, necessary language of dissolution was added to the Bylaws. This is mandatory language and is important to protect the sorority s tax exempt status. Soror Cardrienne and her committee presented the chapter with an informative and creative history of Epsilon Omega starting form 1921 through Present. A chapter birthday cake was shared by all as we sang happy birthday to Epsilon Omega. Plans are moving forward to have the book ready for presentation during Founders Day 2010 Holiday Soror Annamaria Joyner Thanks were extended to all who contributed to the Baby Shower Holiday effort. The committee will take the items to the shelter today at 3:00. It is not too late to donate if you still have items to bring in. The last day to contribute is December 15, The location of the shelter is 17 West Franklin Street. Nominating Soror Isabella Branch Brown NARC is coming up and delegates are needed. During the January meeting, 6 delegates will be elected for NARC. Please make sure you are eligible to be a delegate prior to providing your name.

A transitional meeting will be held on Monday at 6:30 at the Ivy Center. Technology Soror Tonja Ringgold Disposition of Report: G Report Attached: NA Soror Tonja presented a impressive presentation of the chapters website created by her with input from the members of the Technology committee. She walked us througheasch section of the website. Founders Day Soror Adrienne Stokes Orange Founders Day 2010 Will held on February 20, Location - Hilton Baltimore 401 W. Pratt Street Time 11:00a.m. 3:00p.m. Theme Preserving Strength, Commitment and Exemplary Womanhood Speaker Maysa Leak, Jazz Artist and Advocate Music - Maysa Leak in addition to Sophisticated Delight Jazz Trio Ticket Price - $75.00 Grads and $50.00 Undergrads. Parking is included in the price. Old Business Metropolitan Founders Day This is the last day to purchase tickets for the Metropolitian Founders Day. The Cost is $ NARC 2010 NARC T-Shirts are available for purchase. The cost is $ The colors are Salmon Pink and Black. If anyone is interested in being a judge at NARC they should let Soror Angela know as soon as possible. Sorors were encouraged to sign up for various committees and positions; openings included the choir, workshop faciliator, election teller and etc. Please see Soror Angela if you wish to participate in NARC and has not signed up. There are lots of areas that still need assistance. Soror Esther Bailey is in the process of procuring a bus for NARC. The contract requires a minimum of 45people. If you are interestedin the bus, please sign up as soon as possible Please inform the chapter if you will be a Silver or Golden Soror in Day of Service Activity Soror E. Francine Stokes McElveen Can goods will be collected for the Day of Service. Sorors are asked to bring canned goods starting next month.
5 Announcements Hodegos Soror Shirley Briscoe Philacter Soror Nicole Brown 50/50 Raffle 1. Sorors who are interested in singing during Founders Day (Metropolitian) should contact Soror Margaret Jackson for dates of rehearsal. There is a 1:00 rehearsal today at the Ivy Center. 2. Wynola Cunningham announced the Third Annual Pre-Holiday Party of the Eating Together Program. 3. The history committee announced that Sorors will be highlighted in March as part of Women History Month. 4. Founders Day 2009 pictures are available for Sorors who have not picked them up. All have been paid for. 5. Soror Ruby Coleman thanked Chapter for allowing her the opportunity to serve as Epistoleus. 6. Please keep Soror A. Bernice Hunley in prayer. She is at Genesis off Joppa Road. Soror Shirley recognized Sorors celebrating birthdays in December. Soror Shirley indicated that she has enjoyed her position as Hodegos. Soror Nicole reported 122 Chapter Sorors in attendance and 18 visitors. Soror Norma Scott was the winner of $ The meeting adjourned at 1:05 p.m. with the singing of the National Hymn.
