Smith, Basileus, Presiding The monthly meeting of the of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, was called to order by the Basileus, Anne Smith, on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at 10:08 a.m., at the Eden Hill Medical Center, Third Floor Conference Room, Dover. Notices of this meeting were posted via and telephone calls. 2. Welcome: Soror Cecelia Dunning, Hodegos 5.1 Soror Dunning welcomed visiting sorors Cha-Tanya Lankford, a Boule member; Nettye Evans, former member visiting from Brunswick, Georgia; Judy Nelson, Alia Smith and Jephtha Van Dunk. Congratulations to Soror Amanda Pendleton who transferred from Delta Lambda and is now teaching Math at Caesar Rodney High School. 5.2 Soror Melissa White lost her grandmother. 5.3 Cards were sent to: Soror Marcealeate Ruffin - death of her mother Soror Sandra Arnell - illness Soror Chantal Hayward and Soror Victoria Cox - death of aunt Soror Rosita Wilson - illness 5.4 Cards/Checks were sent to: Soror Sandra Johnson and Soror Tammy Robinson - death of mother and grandmother Soror Juanita Cooper - death of sister Soror Monet S. Wilson - death of grandmother (requested money be donated to Sub-Debs Soror Kristen Brown - death of grandmother Family of Soror Pauline Stewart re: her recent death Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated

2 Page Awards: Soror Mildred Opossum was presented a plaque for Special Recognition/Honor at the AKA Day s Capitol Luncheon. A card was also sent on behalf of the Chapter. 6. Approval of the Minutes: Minutes approved as read with necessary corrections. 7. Correspondence: Soror V. Mears Wilson, Epistles 7.1. Soror V. Mears Wilson, Epistles, reviewed the correspondence received: Thank you cards re: expressions of sympathy in the loss of mother and grandmother, from Sorors Sandra Johnson and Tammy Robinson. An announcement that the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition s Website is up and running. 8. Officers Reports: 8.1. Chapter Basileus Report - Soror Anne Smith, Basileus Soror Smith reported that she attended the Leadership Conference, held July 13-17, 2011, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Atlanta Georgia. It was excellent. The 9 th AKA Public Policy Conference will be held in Washington D.C., September 19-21, This Chapter will be represented by Sorors Asi and Asua Ofosu. The Undergraduate Roundup will also be held in Washington, D.C., September 23-25, Whitney s Light 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for October. All members are asked to participate. The Chapter Retreat Committee, chaired by Soror Mildred Ofosu, was thanked for their amazing accomplishments. The Flower Pageant held at Mt. Zion, to raise money for the Intercity League, was deemed a success. Soror Sherrna Williams represented the chapter s flower the tea rose. The Dover, Delaware Chapter Links, Inc. will be celebrating their 25 th Anniversary on September 18, 2011, at the Maple Dale Country Club. Soror Anne Smith will attend and represent the Chapter. The Cluster II Conference will be held in Philadelphia, PA., October 29, Sorors were urged to attend. This is the same day as Homecoming at Delaware State University. 9. First Anti-Basileus Report: Soror Mary Lomax Soror Lomax, Program Chairperson, reported that the Program Committee met on September 10, 2011, at 1:30 p.m., at the Eden Hill Medical Center, in the Third Floor Conference Room. The Committee submitted the following programs for : 9.1. International Programs Initiative - Social Justice and Human Rights- which includes: Whitney Lights 3 rd Annual Walk/Run on October 1, 2011; and the Whitney Lights 4 th Annual Walk/Run on October 6, 2012, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Silver Lake, Dover. The Chairperson is Soror Monet Wilson and Team Captain is Soror Danielle Wilson. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated

Collection will be held from September 17, 2011 to December 31, Domestic Violence Conference, October 13, Location and time to be announced. Angel Tree (a project for children with incarcerated parents), in December, Date to be announced. Initiative - Emerging Young Leaders - A Girls Summit, March, Date to be announced. Initiative - Health - which includes: 9.2. Chapter Programs Emergency Preparedness, September 17, 2011; Soror Dee Blake, Chairperson. Relay for Life (American Cancer Society), June 8-9, 2012; Vickie Pendleton, Team Captain. 3. Asthma Camp - July Dates to be announced. Soror Anne Smith, Chairperson. Heart Walk (American Heart Association), September 15, American Diabetes Month (American Diabetes Association), November, Soror Anne Smith, Chairperson. Praise-A-Thon (Lupus Committee), September Union Missionary Baptist Church, 883 Lincoln Street, Dover, DE Soror Juanita Evans, Chairperson. AIDS Walk Delaware, October 15, 2011 at Legislative Mall (Registration - 9:00 a.m. and step off at 10:00 a.m. Soror Cathy Frederick, Team Captain. Great American Smoke out (American Lung Association), November 17, Time and place to be announced. World Aids Day (AIDS Delaware and Delaware HIV Consortium), December 1, Time and location to be announced. Debutante Cotillion (Dover Downs), April 14, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. Soror Retha Savage, Chairperson. Mothers Brunch/Luncheon, May Time and location to be announced. Chairpersons, where needed, will be appointed by the Basileus. Any one interested may contact Soror Mary Lomax or the Chapter Basileus, Soror Anne Smith. 10. Pecunious Grammateus: Soror Melissa West - No Report 11. Tamiouchos Report: Soror Barbara O Neal 11.1 Soror Barbara O Neal announced: All Chapter Committees must prepare and submit a proposed budget for Chapter dues can be paid now and up until December 17, She encouraged all to pay within the time frame, to avoid paying late fees. (Life members pay $185; others pay $275). The Debutante Program is planning for the 2012 event. However, their budget has not yet been approved. Efforts are underway to get this task accomplished asp. Debutante fees are $375 total and this includes a $25 Registration Fee that is non-refundable.

4 Page Sisterly Relations Presentation: Soror Ruby Coppadge Soror Coppadge attended the Leadership Training in Atlanta, Georgia, recently. She shared some of the information from a workshop she attended, titled Group Dynamics: Can t We All Just Get Along? A packet from the workshop was copied and distributed to all members. The first exercise was an interactive discussion, titled Sixteen Ways to Wreck a Chapter. Other topics covered included Interpersonal Skills Reflections. We come together as a group, and it takes work to stay productive and together. After a brief discussion, it was noted that trust, honesty, communication and preservation are necessary. A Code of Ethics was read in unison. Basileus Anne Smith thanked Soror Ruby Coppadge for her presentation. 13. Standing and Appointed Committee Reports Achieves: Soror Sandra Arnell - No Report Auditing Committee: Soror Lerida Sanchez - No Report Budget and Finance Committee: Soror Barbara O Neal - No report Connection Committee: Soror Sterna Williams The Committee will begin a Voter Registration Drive. The training dates will be announced Fundraising Committee: Soror Rosa Smith and Soror Latoya Warner There will be no Fall Fling. No other report Graduate Advisor s Council: Soror Asi Ofosu The Undergraduate Roundup is scheduled for September 23-25, of 39 undergraduates from Delta Lambda plan to attend. Members of the Graduate Chapter, who plan to attend, are: Sorors Asi Ofosu, Asua Ofosu, Mildred Ofosu and Justine Flint. The Sweet Delta Lambda Chapter will present Harlem Night Tea Party on September 22, Business attire is acceptable, but the 1920s fashion is preferred. Tickets are $10. An award will be presented to the best 1920s outfit Membership Committee: Soror Vickie Pendleton The MIP process begins with the completion of the Sponsor/Co-Sponsor Application. All forms must be completed and submitted to the Membership Committee Chairperson, Soror Vickie Pendleton. This committee will verify eligibility for all sponsors and co-sponsors. A soror may sponsor or co-sponsor a maximum of two (2) prospective candidates per Membership Intake Process. However, if she co-sponsors one (1) prospective candidate, then she can only sponsor one (1) prospective candidate. See Soror Pendleton for MIP Forms. The criteria must be read carefully. Such questions asked are: Have you attended at least six (6) out of the ten (10 Chapter meetings each year? Also, have you attended one (1) Cluster meeting, Regional Conference, or Boule in the last three (3) years?

5 Page 5 A Reclamation Activity - a Sisterly Yours Activity is scheduled for October 26, 2011, at Nobles Pond Prayer Team Committee: Soror Frances Rogers - No report 13.9 Protocol: Soror Asua Ofosu - No report Public Relations: Soror Amber Gordon - No report Standards: Soror Rosita Wilson The Committee has received a good response re: the Chapter Assessment Forms. Members were advised to complete this form if they had not already done so. Forms can be returned to a member of the Standards Committee Technology: Soror MarsheleWhite The Chapter s website is under construction Highway Cleanup: Soror Juanita Cooper The Highway Cleanup Committee will meet at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2011, and clean the assigned roadway. Then, at 9:00 a.m., they will meet at Silver Lake and participate in the Witney Lights Walk/Run. The rain date is October 2, Program Committee Report: Soror Mary Lomax 14.1 Emergency Preparedness Information titled Your Family Disaster Supplies Kit, was distributed to all members present, by Soror Dee Blake. This information will be helpful as the winter weather approaches Hearts and Hands Reaching across the Globe Committee have planned to make gift bags for men at the Dover Interfaith Shelter, during the Christmas Holidays. A printout of items needed was distributed. Donations can be brought to the next three monthly meetings leading up to Christmas. A free workshop was held at the Dover Interfaith Mission (Shelter), focusing on Crime=Time. Rev. Dania Griffin and Harold Stafford (former State of Delaware-Secretary of Labor were the presenters. They were well received and promised to continue to serve as a resource for the men. The next workshop scheduled for October, will focus on health issues. The Quilting Group continues to meet on the second Saturday of each month, at Eden Hill Medical Center's Third Floor Conference Room. Upcoming Program will focus on buddy/body workouts. 6 Page Emerging Young Leaders - Soror Sherwanda Rachal This program for 9 th and 10 th Graders will begin with a workshop on September 24, 2011, at Dover Parks and Recreation Building, off Whit Oak Road, Dover. The time is p.m Debutante Program - Soror Retha Savage The Debutantes will participate in the Witney Light's 5K Walk/Run, on October 1, Their first workshop is scheduled for October 8, All prospective Debutantes must pay a non refundable registration fee of $25. They also, must raise $350. After that, all money received will be returned to them. Future activities include attending the Alvin Ailey Dance Show at the Schwartz Theater and a trip to New York on December 10, The cost for the trip is $35 per person and it is open to all chapter members who would like to participate. A motion was made by Soror Quincy Lucas to approve the cost of the trip; seconded by Soror Mary Lomax. Motion carried Health Program: Diabetes and Domestic Violence - Soror Monet S. Wilson The collaborative effort with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and was a huge success. Working together to sponsor the Diabetes Awareness Program was productive and the plan is to have more of these activities The Chapter s Whitney Light's participation has sparked the idea to have all participants wear a TEAM AKA Tee Shirt. The uniformity will make the Team more visible and show unity. The Tee shirts are $12 each. Order forms were distributed. The Team captain is Soror Danielle Wilson. Registration can be done on line. Friends and family can also walk with the team, but they can not wear a Team AKA tee shirt. Individual donations can be made by the membership, a motion was made by Soror Monet Wilson that the Chapter donate $500 to this cause; motion seconded by Soror Leida Sanchez. Motion carried Lupus Program - Soror Juanita Evans The newly formed Lupus Support Group will meet September 23, 2011, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Union Missionary Church Fisher House - Soror Virginia Carson There are only a few organizations that have been approved to work on an on-going basis with Fisher House., The Dover Chapter of the Links, USO and Friends of the Fallen. Soror Vickie Pendleton, Subcommittee Chairperson for Operation Gift Bags is in the process of collecting items to stuff 50 bags and deliver in October. Soror Ethel Higgins, Subcommittee Chairperson for Food reported that soon Fisher House will get a freezer and volunteers will be asked to donate casseroles and cookies that can be frozen.

7 Page Unfinished Business 15.1 Soror Mildred Ofosu plans to schedule a joint retreat with Epsilon Iota Omega and Delta Lambda, to review protocol and rituals Delaware State University's Homecoming Parade is scheduled for Saturday, October 29, Soror Amanda Pendleton made a motion that participate in the parade; motion seconded. Motion passed. Soror Pendleton will follow up the chair Announcements 16.1 The Chapter's September Newsletter has been completed and can be downloaded Soror Thomasena Gardner's brother passed away on September 16, A chapter card was sent The Chapter Bylaws Committee will meet one hour before the Executive Committee on October 4, Soror Maxine Lewis is being inducted into Delaware State University Sports Hall of Fame at a banquet on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at the Sheraton Hotel, Dover. Tickets are $40 per person. By consensus, the Chapter agreed to purchase a full page ad in the amount of $100, without taking money from the treasury. Soror Juanita Cooper volunteered to collect from the membership to pay for the ad 17. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 12:30 p.m., with the singing of the international Sorority Hymn followed by the Pledge. The next monthly meeting will be a joint meeting with Delta Lambda and is scheduled for October 16, at 3:00 p.m..
