Beta Sigma Omega & Kappa Psi Chapter Meeting November 15, :00 a.m. Langston University OKC Campus Soror Cheryl D Williams, Basileus, Presiding Call to Order: Meeting called to order by Soror Cheryl Williams at 11:10 a.m. Meditation: Meditation given by Soror Sandra Abdul-Aziz followed by the sorority pledge and prayer. Adoption of Agenda: Soror Lisa Griffin will give Fundraising Committee report and Kappa Psi Graduate Advisor s report will follow the Basileus reports. Agenda adopted with noted changes. Approval of October 2014 Chapter Minutes: Minutes approved as printed. Correspondence: Soror Angela Long, ORAL Requests for donations from the American Diabetes Association, NAACP, American Cancer Society, and AKA EAF. Invoices from the Oklahoma City Herald for submitted articles. Invitation from Mu Omega Chapter to a reception for Soror Jan Carpenter-Baker to be held on November 1, 2014 in Kansas City, KS. Thank you card from One Church One Child for support and financial contribution of $ World Ark Magazine from Heifer International. Thank you card from Soror Marguerite Stumbaugh for love shown after her recent surgery. Action on Correspondence: None Officer Reports Basileus: Soror Cheryl Williams, FILED Only four (4) months remaining until Cluster D hosts the 2015 MWRC. If you signed up for a committee and your name was not listed on the circulated , contact the committee chairman directly and if you have not signed up for a committee, please do so ASAP. Any soror desiring to submit a resolution or proposed bylaws amendment during the 2015 MWRC should provide that information in writing to Soror Vicki Miles-LaGrange no later than the November chapter meeting. Congrats to Sorors Felecia Moriels, Linda Samuel-Jaha and the entire Fashionetta Committee for an outstanding Fashionetta presentation where five (5) young ladies were presented. Sorors please take time to complete the Standards chapter evaluation. Paper evaluations are available today or you may do so electronically. Cluster highlights included: Green activities in recognition of EAF; changes in the rituals; sisterly relations core values of care, kindness and respect. All updates will be included in the Fall mailing. During this time of giving thanks, let us be mindful of those less fortunate. If you would like to share with someone else, please refer to the wish list provided by the Public Affairs Committee in our November newsletter. Soror Cheryl requests that no committee meetings be scheduled prior to December s chapter meeting so we can use that time to bond together as sisters. The Membership Committee will sponsor a brunch beginning at 10:00 a.m. Invite an inactive soror to join us.

2 Recognition of our sorors who are serving or have served in the military: Soror Teressa Hunter, Brenda Walker and Tracey Tate. Basileus, Kappa Psi: Soror Bionca Chambers, FILED Chapter has completed 177 hours of community service. Chapter will be attending the Fraternities & Sororities Student Life (FSSL) Awards Ceremony on November 19, 2014 where they are to be recognized and receive various awards. Graduate Advisor Kappa Psi: Soror Sha-Ree Wrice (Kappa Psi) for Soror Latonya Robinson, FILED On October 28, 2014 the chapter hosted an open community service event at Feed the Children. Twelve sorors and guests assembled 280 boxes of food items. On November 2, 2014 the members assisted with the 2014 Fashionetta Presentation at Will Rogers Theatre in OKC. The chapter will share a sisterly Thanksgiving dinner together on Saturday, November 22, 2014 prior to leaving for the Thanksgiving break. Soror Latonya is seeking help from BSO sorors by donating small AKA items to be used as game prizes and assistance with hosting the event from at least two (2) council members. Chapter meetings will continue to be held on the 1 st and 3 rd Sundays of each month on the University of Oklahoma campus. New officers will be elected in November. You may follow Kappa Psi events at OU_AKAs BSO Undergraduate Scholarship presented to Soror Biona Chambers, Kappa Psi. Nominating: Soror Sandra Abdul-Aziz, ORAL Presented the candidates for the following soon to be vacant offices: Second Anti-Basilues: Soror Ameyka Pittman; Pecunious Grammateus: Sorors LaTreece Langston and Tracy Smith; Anti-Pecunious Grammateus: Anastasia Pittman Pitre; Historian: Soror Georgetta James; Grammateus: Soror Jean Madison Kirk; Nominating Committee: Sorors Shante Fenner, Monica Finley, Linda J. Huggins, Joannie Wade and Rena Williams. Ballots were distributed to sorors and Soror Cheryl Williams appointed Sorors Krystal Mitchell, Sherrita Wilson, Mae Burge and Marie Walker (Chair) as tellers. Sorors, let s continue the backpack giving each month so we can do even more! Acts of Green Campaign: This is a deliberate action to protect the planet and secure a sustainable future. The Econonic Development and AKA Connections committees will be asked to take on this initiative and to partner with a waste management company to help meet this initiative. -2-

3 -3- Sorors it s not to late to donate to a HBCU by participating in the 08 Campaign. Logon to members only section and click on Think HBCU to make a donation. United Nations Association of the United States of America: become a member by visiting engage on social media; participate in film screening; host a community reception. Education Committee: The committee hald a school supply drive in September and items were donated to Oakridge Elementary School and Millwood Middle School. Let s keep the donations coming. There are ten (10) school districts around us that would love for us to embrace them with supplies. This month the committee will begin work on the pre-launch of the ASCEND Program. Public Affairs Committee: The committee executed a great flu clinic on November 1, To meet the Programs initiative of Family Seasonal Wraps, we are asked to serve 20,000 families in need. The committee has requested that sorors donate new and gently used outerwear and bring to the November and December chapter meetings. These items will be donated to the Wonderfully Made Foundation and the Foster Care Wish List Project. Soror Tara Williams has a sign-up sheet circulating for those willing to help sort donations MWRC: s were sent for sorors to sign-up for committees; budgets have been released for review; committees have begun working and holding meetings; tentative plan is for BSO sorors to register on Wednesday afternoon because we are the largest chapter. Estimated MWRC attendance is nd Anti-Basileus: Soror Ameyka Pittman, FILED As the chapter s EAF Captain, provided information regarding the Regional Director s EAF goals for the region which is 100% of chapters contributing at the Silver Level. BSO currently contributes at the Silver Level ($500). She would also like to see an increase in individual donors across the Mid-Western Region and an increase in the number of chapters applying for and receiving the Community Assistance Award (C.A.A.) and Fellowships. C.A.A. assists organizations in support of their civic, educational, or human service programs. Fellowships improve the quality of life of others by funding projects dealing with Lupus disease, Foster children, and Non- Violent Alternatives to Conflict. Hodegos: Soror Terri Hurte, FILED BSO presented the following Special Guest Gifts: Soror Dorothy King Tucker (15 th MWRD) 90 th birthday celebration; Soror Holly Robinson Peete, special guest, Langston University Scholarship Gala; and Soror Julia Brown, honored as an Outstanding OSU Alumni during the OSU Homecoming activities. Kudos: Soror Anastasia Pittman Pitre, our newly elected Oklahoma State Senator for District 48; Soror Shante Fenner on her new position as the Director of the Check, Change, and Control Program at the American Heart Association. Condolences: Soror Marie Walker on the loss of her mother, Mrs. Artie V. Napier; Soror Anastasis Pittman Pitre who loss her uncle, Mr. Wallace Thurman. Prayer Requests: Soror Angela Burnett who had ear surgery; Soror Marguerite Stumbaugh who had knee surgery; Soror Charlotte Chatman s husband, Lavoris, who is recovering from triple bypass surgery; and Soror Linda Eakers who is scheduled for surgery. Congrats to Soror Vicki Miles LaGrange on the birth of her new grandson, Magnus Alexander Watts. Graduate Advisor Beta Beta: Soror Candice Milard, ORAL Final commitment ceremony for Beta Beta scheduled for November 23, 2014 at the Courtyard Marriott. Please see Soror Candice for futher details. Fashionetta: Soror Felecia Moriels, FILED Beta Sigma Omega, Beta Beta and Kappa Psi Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. hosted the 2014 Fashionetta Presentation Vintage Pearls presenting five (5) beautiful and talented young ladies to the Okahoma City community. Thanks to all who helped to make it a grand affair! The Fasionetta Evaluation Brunch was held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 and the committee is pleased to announce that they were able to refund to the participants 91% of funds collected totaling $20, Total income for 2014 Fashionetta was $32, Expenses totaled $31, Rollover of $1, MOTION: Moved by Soror Felecia Moriels to rollover the amount of $1, to the 2015 Fashionetta Budget. The Execuitve Board recommends that the chapter approve the request from the Fashionetta Committee to rollover $ to the 2015 Fashionetta Committee Budget. Rationale: Funds to be used for seed money. MOTION: Moved by Soror Georgetta James that the chapter approve the rollover of $1, to the 2015 Fashionetta Committee Budget. Seconded, motion adopted. Fundraising: Soror Lisa Griffin, ORAL Through meetings, calls, comments from members, and input from the Executive Board we present the following recommendations: #1. Ratify cancellation of the Winter Ball scheludled for January 3, MOTION: Moved by Soror Deborah Burroughs that the chapter rafify actions of the Executive Board to cancel the 2014 Winter Ball scheduled for January 3, 2015 at Will Rogers Theatre. Seconded, motion adopted. #2. Cancel the Twenty Pearls Club fundraiser scheduled for November 29, 2014 at the Waterford. MOTION: Moved by Soror Deborah Burroughs that the Twenty Pearls Club fundraiser scheduled for November 29, 2014 be cancelled. Seconded, motion adopted. -4-
