2 Company Personnel Spotlight FF/AEMT Alyssa Gustafson first became interested in Emergency Services her senior year of high school. Her senior project was job shadowing the Duty Crew for a semester. Following graduation she immediately joined the Lake Geneva Fire Department and was hired into the organization on August 21, FF/AEMT Gustafson enrolled in and achieved her EMT Basic and Firefighter 1 certification within her first year. These certifications were earned concurrently with FF/AEMT Gustafson attending college to become a nurse. In 2012 Alyssa achieved her goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. FF/AEMT Gustafson has received the Departments Life Saving and Firefighter of the Year awards. FF/AEMT Gustafson was also involved in the creation of the Lake Geneva Fire Explorer Post and served as one of the first Post Advisors. In 2017 FF/AEMT Gustafson married her high school sweetheart, Justin. FF/AEMT Gustafson, we would like to say Thank You for your 9 years of dedication to the Fire Department and to the Citizens of the City of Lake Geneva and the surrounding area.

3 January Anniversaries - FF/Paramedic Paul Blount- 1 year - FF/EMT John Steltenpohl- 10 years - Deputy Chief Dan Derrick- 46 years Personnel Achievements Firefighter James Hughes, Michelle Martinez and Danny Zientek have each passed their EMT Basic training and are awaiting State licensure. Lt. Rhonda Baumann and Michael Mills have successfully achieved their Firefighter 2 certification.

4 Community Events We would like to thank Mrs. Mandli s class at Central-Denison for their heartfelt Thank You letter. We would like to thank the Eastview Elemtary Student Council for their treats and Christmas Carols.

5 The Department was privileged again this year to provide Santa Claus with transportation to the annual Christmas Tree Lighting.

6 In the days following the room and contents fire at the Havenwood Apartments, Chief Peters, Captain Moller-Gunderson, and Captain Detkowski met with the apartment building residents to discuss the fire, safety procedures and best practices for future emergencies

7 Notable Calls for Service At 1:33pm on December 2 nd the Department was dispatched to assist Lyons Fire Department with a structure fire. The Lyons Fire Department crew had a good stop on the fire prior to our arrival. The Department helped them with overhaul and investigation. On Sunday, December 17, 2017, at 3:19 pm the Lake Geneva Fire Department was dispatched to 250 Havenwood Drive for an activated fire alarm. Arriving crews were directed to a first floor unit where a resident had burned food on the stove with no active fire. Crews were then told to check another first floor unit with a barking dog. Fire personnel found fire in the unit with heavy smoke filling the hallway. The fire was quickly knocked down and the dog was rescued. Primary and secondary searches were conducted on all floors to evacuate all residents. Crews performed overhaul and ventilation to clear smoke from all floors. Due to life safety concerns with 68 occupied units in the building, the incident was elevated to a Box Alarm, bringing additional help from 11 area departments.

8 At 5:27pm on December 21 st, the Lake Geneva Fire Department was dispatched to a car fire at Brunk Industry. Upon arrival first in crew found fire coming through hood of the car. The first in crew stretch a line and quickly extinguished the fire. No other property was damaged from the fire other than the vehicle involved.

12 Parting Shot After 33 years of dedicated service to the Lake Geneva Fire Department, to the citizens of Lake Geneva, and the surrounding communities, FF/EMT Patrick Carroll is retiring. Pat, your 33 years of service have not gone unnoticed. You have changed our department for the better. Your dedication and enthusiasm to be the best and to make our department the best help us become the department that we are today.
