1 VIII. Site Analysis A. SITE TOPOGRAPHY Site Dynamics Map 3.1 from Inventory & Analysis Section of Campus Master Plan Existing Conditions Topography Map C1.0 from Walter Fedy USF Lakeland Conceptual Design Report The site is generally flat with a gentle westerly slope. Surface storm water generally flows westerly toward a retention area directly west of the site. A complete and detailed site topographic survey has been completed. B. SOIL CONDITIONS Map Figure 1 prepared by Ardaman & Associates and included in the Conceptual Design Report dated June 20, 2007 Subsurface evaluations will be required for design in order to provide an accurate plot of the elevations of various strata, establish allowable bearing values for foundations at various elevations, give guidance for selection of a proper foundation for the building and to estimate strength and compressibility of the soil strata. Evaluation of potential settlement for particular foundation types will also be necessary, particularly due to the known lime rock formations on the campus, which generally require special foundation design considerations for multi-story buildings due to susceptibility for sinkhole development. C. CIRCULATION/ACCESS Proposed Transportation Overview Map 11.1 from Campus Master Plan Context Area Roadways Map 11.1 from Inventory & Analysis Section of Campus Master Plan Context Area Transit Routes Map 11.2 from Inventory & Analysis Section of Campus Master Plan Pedestrian and Non-Vehicular Circulation Map 11.3 from Inventory & Analysis Section of Campus Master Plan Vehicular access and parking exist immediately south of the site, between the site and the primary access road. Additional parking lots are proposed west of Phase I and are expected to be replaced with parking structures in the future. Pedestrian patterns should be anticipated to the nearby future buildings and to other campus destinations to the east and west. All connecting 10-foot sidewalks are to be included in the Project, per campus standards. Twentyfoot fire lane access will be required. Phase IA July
2 Consistent with the Lakeland Campus Master Plan, the twenty four to thirty five axis road will be constructed during the current project. It will be funded concurrently as a separate project. D. SITE VEGETATION Existing Vegetation and Habitat Map 13.1 from Inventory & Analysis Section of Campus Master Plan The site is primarily pasture grassland with numerous existing oak trees. E. ARCHEOLOGICAL HISTORY The site has not been previously disturbed by phosphate mining and construction. It is considered a rural condition and is not proximate to any known or suspected archeological sites. The USF Archeology Department will be notified when construction begins so that they can elect to observe the site work. F. UTILITIES Proposed Utility Distribution Map 10.1 from Campus Master Plan The various utility services for potable water, fire protection, sanitary, hot/chilled water, electricity, communications and gas are to be constructed on campus concurrent with the project. See Utilities Impact Analysis for further description of each. G. PROXIMITY TO ARCHITECTURALLY SIGNIFICANT STRUCTURES, AND IMPACT None. H. UNUSUAL SITE CONDITIONS The Campus is located in Karst sub-surface topography, including the potential for limestone caverns, sinkholes, etc. These conditions may impact the cost of substructure and site work.
