1 Instructions for the BASIC Air Handling System, Sizes General 1.1 Description of the System The BASIC System is a complete modular air handling unit. The unit consists of blocks, i.e. a number of functions can be combined inside a common casing. Of course, every function is available in its own separate casing. The unit can be equipped with functions such as dampers, mixing sections, filters, air heaters, air coolers, humidifiers, fans, silencers, angle sections, inspection sections, spacer sections and a heat recovery unit. Several types of heat recovery unit are available: rotary heat exchanger, cross-flow plate heat exchanger or coil heat exchanger. The air heaters are available as coils for hot water or electric; the air coolers are available as coils for chilled water or for evaporative refrigerant. The fans are available either as belt-driven fans with backward-curved blades or direct-driven fans of unique axi-centrifugal design with variable speed control. The BASIC air handling unit is equipped with either an electronic or a microprocessor-based control system. The casing of the air handling unit is supplied either fully assembled or in parts with the relevant functional sections packaged separately. 1.2 To identify the air handling unit An identification label is affixed on the outside of the air handling unit and its functions; a motor rating plate is at each fan. The identification label of the control equipment is on the front of the cubicle. When contacting Swegon, it is of utmost importance that you state the correct and complete product code designation and the order number of the relevant air handling unit. 1.3 Specification The version, size and other particulars of the air handling unit are specified in the bill of lading. 2. Safety precautions The personnel concerned must read these instructions carefully before beginning any work on the air handling unit. Any damage to the unit or parts thereof caused by mishandling by the purchaser or the fitter cannot be regarded as being the subject of warranty if these instructions have not been followed. WARNING! Do not open any inspection doors situated downstream of the fan while the fan is running. The air pressure inside the unit may make the door fly open and cause personal injury. 2 3. Installation 3.1 Lifting and transport The blocks/functional sections of the BASIC air handling unit are delivered on wooden pallets. The unit sections are packaged in plastic foil. To avoid any damage, the packaging should remain intact until the installation work has begun. The air handling unit can be lifted as shown in the figures below. 1. Air handling unit or functional section in its packaging The max. permisssible load is contingent to the lifting capacity of the slings. 2. Using a forklift truck to lift a unit standing on a pallet 3.2 Mounting the unit The air handling unit must be horizontally mounted on a flat and solid floor or base. The construction of the latter must be able to support the weight of the unit. When mounting the unit and connecting the pipework and electric cables, make sure that sufficient free space is available in front of the inspection doors so that they can be opened and functional components, such as filter cassettes and fan assemblies can be withdrawn as needed. A minimum inspection space of 700 mm is required. It is important to properly fit the water trap, if any, since the fans as a rule are located last in the order of the unit sections and cause subatmospheric pressure inside the unit (see the instructions of each functional section). Height a (distance between the run-off level in the unit section and the run-off level of the water trap) must be at least as great in mm as the subatmospheric pressure in the unit is in mm gauge. Height b (distance between the run-off level of the water trap and the upper point in U bend) must be at least as great in mm as half of the subatmospheric pressure in the unit is in mm gauge. 3 3.3 Jointing of blocks Sizes The blocks can be jointed together by means of bolts inside the framework or, if necessary, by means of bolts from the outside and at the corners of the framework. On the size 027 units, the blocks should also be jointed together at the middle. To enter the inside of the casing, open an inspection door or remove a wall panel. 1. Fit the sealing strips supplied to the frame of one of the blocks. See Fig. 1 and Insert the guide pins supplied into holes in the corners of one of the blocks and hammer them half way in. See Fig Push the blocks together making sure that the guide pins in one block enter the holes in the corners of the next. See Fig Internal bolted joins: Fit bolt lug hooks at every corner, join them by means of a screw. Then alternately tighten the screws using a 6 mm Allen wrench. See Fig. 4. External bolted joins, if necessary: Drill a 9 mm dia. hole at a 15 angle through the corners as shown in Fig.5 and 6. Fit bolt lug hooks at every corner, join them by means of a screw. If needed, the unit blocks can also be jointed together according to the directions in Section 3.3, items 1 4. Specifications are subject to alteration without notice. 3

4 3.4 Connection to the ducting The end connection wall can be selected with or without slip clamp joints (accessories) for mounting on the inlet or outlet of the unit (not applicable to dampers, mixing sections and fans, see the relevant instructions). If the BCXZ-1-aaa-22-b end connection wall without slip clamp joint is selected, connect the ducting as shown in Alt. 1 below. If the BCXZ-1-aaa-23-b end connection wall with slip clamp joint is selected, connect the ducting as shown in Alt. 2 below. Check that adjacent components or duct pieces are vertically and horizontally aligned before you joint them together with slip clamps. Use a plastic mallet or a similar object, that will not damage the slip clamps, when you hammer them on. Alt. 1 Alt BC Casing Technical Data 4.1 General The BASIC System consists of various functional sections. It can be supplied as separate functional sections each with its own casing, as blocks containing two or more functions or as a one-piece unit. On the size units the max. permissible block length is 4000 mm; on the size units it is 3000 mm. The BASIC System functions are enclosed in a robust, selfsupporting framework with panels. The framework consists of torsionally rigid, form-rolled profiles made of aluminiumzinc coated, 1 mm thick sheet steel, and corner pieces made of aluminium. The panels are made of aluminium-zinc coated sheet steel to Environment Class M3. The panels are constructed according to the sandwich principle: 0.7 mm thick sheet steel + 50 mm insulation mm thick sheet steel. The inspection doors are hung on robust hinges and if required for reasons of safety can be equipped with key lock. In this case, those of the size 004 units have T-type lockable handles and those of the size units have L-type lockable handles. 4.2 Insulation The BASIC unit has 50 mm thick fire-retardant thermal and condensation insulation as standard. The BASIC unit is also available with insulation that conforms to fire resistance class EI Tightness In terms of air leakage to the surroundings, the tightness of the unit casing of normal design conforms to class A in accordance with pren The casing is available in a special variant to class B. 4.4 Thermal properties The CEN Standard (pren 1886) provides values that can be utilised for specifying thermal and acoustic properties of casings. The standard stipulates that such values are solely to be used for comparing various casing designs and should not be utilised for other calculations since they are relevant only to the casing model that has undergone tests. Air handling unit casings can be classified on the basis of their total heat transfer coefficient, U (W/m 2 C), into five classes: T1 U 0.5 T2 0.5 < U 1 T3 1 < U 1.4 T4 1.4 < U 2 T5 No requirements The casing of the BASIC System conforms to Class T Specifications are subject to alteration without notice.

5 4.5 Acoustic properties The sound attenuating properties of the casing (db) measured to pren 1886 are as follows: Octave band (Hz) In general, this sound reduction should not be used for calculating the level of sound emitted to the surroundings, which is also specified in the standard. The values specified in the fan charts should instead be used. Airborne sound insulation (db) for wall panels measured to ISO 140-3: Insulation Octave band (Hz) Rw Standard EI Rw = weighted sound reduction index. Serves as a measurement of the sound attenuating properties of the wall panels. 4.6 Dimensions of the base beams Base beams are standard on the BCVF plate heat exchanger (sizes ). Otherwise, they are accessories. Their dimensions are shown in the sketches below Length of the casing (block) The dimensions of the various functional sections included in the air handling unit combination or block can be added as the are to determine the overall length of unit/ block. If an air handling unit combination begins or ends with a unit section that is illustrated without end frame member, add 26.5 mm for the initial/ultimate end frame member to the unit length to determine the overall length of the block. The overall length is identical with the ordering length, block length in the specification. NB! Size units: max. 7 functional sections/ block; size units: max. 6 functional sections/block. 26,5+A+B+C+D+E+26,5 26,5 A B C D E 26,5 Add 26.5 mm if the initial/ultimate unit section of the function combination is illustrated without end frame member in the relevant dimension sketch. 4.8 Weights Casing and functional sections The instructions of the individual functional sections include dimension sketches and tables. The weight of every individual function is specified in the dimension tables. Each weight includes that of the base beam and casing as shown in the sketch, i.e. in certain cases, the weight of the end frame member is not included. If an air handling unit combination begins or ends with a unit section that is illustrated in dimensional sketches without end frame member, add the weight of the initial/ultimate end frame member (from the table below) to the weight of the casing and functional sections to determine the total weight of the block.
