The ventilation system can be controlled from a separate control panel or from the cooker hood. Premium control engineering. HOME VENTILATION R85B_f_EN-p

Technical data General The Swegon CASA R85 is an ideal ventilation unit for homes and similar premises. The unit has a RECOnomic rotary heat exchanger for high heat recovery performance. The ventilation unit is designed to be mounted on a wall by means of the wall mounting bracket supplied with the unit. The ventilation unit s dimensions enable you install it like a wall cabinet directly above the cooker and the cooker hood. It is also possible to mount the unit against the ceiling with a ceiling mounting frame, available as optional equipment. Fans The fans have low-energy, economical, type EC direct-current motors, whose power consumption is almost half as high as that of traditional fans driven by AC motors. The advantage of EC fans is that their speed is variably controllable and their efficiency is high even when they operate in the lower speed range. The power supply and control cables have quick-fit connectors and the fans can be easily removed from the unit, if required. The Swegon CASA R85 with the front panel removed. Filters The ventilation unit has class F7 fine filters for the supply air and the extract air. Heat exchanger The ventilation unit has Swegon's patented RECOnomic rotary heat exchanger. The heat exchanger consists of a rotating wheel or rotor. The aluminium foil structure of the rotor forms a multitude of small passages through which the air flows. As the rotor rotates, heat is stored in the passages on the warm extract air side, and is emitted to the cold air on the supply air side. Even though the same surfaces are in contact with both the extract air and the supply air, there is very little risk that odour transfer will occur. The temperature efficiency is approx. 80 %. Since a rotary heat exchanger normally never freezes; it maintains its high temperature efficiency regardless of the outside temperature. The heat exchanger is driven by a motor of its own. The energy-efficient heat exchanger in the Swegon CASA R

RECOtite The ratio between the pressure in the outside air and the extract air ducts, how clean the filters are, etc. have an effect on the pressure differential between the upper and lower top seals at the transition point of the rotary heat exchanger. If the pressure differential becomes too high, the upper seals will begin to leak and the airflows will mix with one another in an undesirable way. In ventilation systems where there are low airflows, such as in small homes, the pressure differential often becomes too high and air inside the ventilation unit begins to leak from the extract air section to the supply air section as shown in Figure A. Normally when airflows are to be adjusted, only the supply and extract airflows of the home are measured. If the leakage is then too high, the actual outside air flow and the extract airflow will deviate from the planned values and the basic home ventilation rate may even be as much as 30% less than planned. If the air change rate is less than anticipated, the ventilation system s capacity for extracting moisture out of the home will not be sufficient to meet the load, and moisture will begin to accumulate inside the home. Leakage also has the adverse effect that moisture in the extract air is conveyed back into the home together with the supply air. The traditional method used for compensating the pressure differential is to increase the pressure in the extract air duct by restricting the airflow with a regulating damper. However by doing so, the ventilation unit can no longer reach the efficiency promised. The airflow often becomes too low, e.g. when it is boosted and this radically increases the amount of power consumed by the fan (negatively affecting the SFP value). A RECOtite pressure equalizer equalizes the difference in pressure between the extract air and the supply air sections, and, as a result, no leakage flow of air occurs any longer at this point. The leakage has been moved to the adjacent top seal, and the leakage flow now occurs from supply air to supply air. There are also flows below the pressure equalizer in the heat exchanger and the heat recovery efficiency is thus not affected. Figure A. RECOtite pressure equalizer. 4 Control System General The ventilation unit is controlled from a Premium control panel, from which you can also read and change settings. You can also select three different fan speeds from the Premium cooker hood. In multi-story buildings and in terraced houses, the ventilation unit is preferably controlled from a Premium cooker hood. The caretaker then needs only one extra control panel for changing the settings, if required. For this reason a Premium control panel is not standard equipment on the R85 model, however, but if the need arises, it can be purchased as an accessory. Control from a Premium control panel A Premium control panel (optional item of equipment) can be installed at an optional location, recessed in a junction box or surface mounted on the wall. It can be located near the ventilation unit or somewhere else, and then must be connected to the unit via a 20 metre long modular cable. An extra control panel can also be connected, if it is desirable to control the ventilation unit from several places. Selectable functions Operation. The unit can be started and stopped. Fan speed. The ventilation unit fans can be set and controlled to operate at five different speeds. The display indicates the Away mode when the fans run on their lowest speed and indicates the Home mode when the fans are running at normal speed. The speed of the supply air fan can deviate from that of the extract air fan and the speed is controlled from the control panel. Timer. The 24-hour/weekly timer has four programs. You can set the desired times if you want the unit to activate a desired function. The unit runs in the economical minimum speed mode at other times (Away). Functions: Home, Away, Boost, Cool. You can also select the temperature of the supply air. Temperature. You can set the desired start temperature of the electric air heater for reheating (optional item) within a range of C. You can also shut off the reheating function. Summer operation. When certain limit values are met, the ventilation unit stops the heat exchanger (when heat recovery isn t needed). Summer night cooling. The function starts, if certain temperature conditions are complied with. The heat exchanger in the unit stops and the speed of the fans is increased. The cooler air at night, for instance, is then utilised for cooling the home. The fan speed can be selected. Cooling energy recovery In the summer, when the indoor air is cooler than the outdoor air, the heat exchanger starts up. The ventilation unit is controlled from a Premium control panel. Fireplace switch function. Temporarily stops the extract air fan. This generates excess pressure in the home and in this way forces an updraught in the chimney, which prevents smoke from entering the room when you light the log-fire. Display of the operating speed. The current operating speed is continuously shown as text on the display screen. Service reminder. The service reminder interval can be set to a period ranging between 3 12 months. Automatic functions Alarms. Indicate the need for filter change or servicing and a possible disruption in operation. Heat exchanger. Starts and stops in response to signals from the temperature sensor. Overheating protection. For the motors and the electric air heater. Freeze protection. Prevents freezing in the heat exchanger. 4

Control from a Premium cooker hood Selectable functions The control panel of the cooker hood has three pushbuttons. Besides switching the cooker hood s lighting on and off, two control functions can be set as follows: Fan speed. The fans in the ventilation unit have three speeds: away, home and boost. The supply air fan can operate at a lower speed than that of the extract air fan. The period for operation in the boosted speed mode is preset to 60 minutes, after which the ventilation unit fans will decelerate to normal speed. The shut-off damper of the cooker hood. When preparing food or carrying out a similar activity, a 30, 60 or 120 minute damper-open period can be selected. Cooker hood shut-off damper control indication: damper open 30/60/120 min. Lighting Ventilation unit fan speed. Away, home, boost Demand control (optional equipment) Demand control is possible with the following optional equipment: Separate timer. 24-hour/weekly timer with settable times, for when you want the ventilation unit fans to run at normal speed. At other times, the unit runs in the economical minimum fan speed mode. Separate boost timer. A manual pushbutton switch that can be installed at an optional location. The pushbutton switch can be located in a laundry room or the like, for example. Separate fireplace switch. A manual pushbutton switch that can be installed at an optional location. The function generates excess pressure in the home and in this way causes an updraught in the chimney, which prevents smoke from entering the room when you light the log-fire. Negative pressure compensation. When the cooker hood is in use, negative pressure arises in the home since the extract airflow becomes substantially higher than the supply airflow. This function compensates the negative pressure by automatically increasing the supply airflow. The switching signal can be transmitted to the ventilation unit from the cooker hood or a differential pressure switch, for instance. Home Away switch. Should be located close to the front door. When the button is pushed, the ventilation unit switches to operation in the Away mode and this saves energy. An ordinary electric switch can be used. Occupant detection sensor. The sensor detects movement in the home and transmits a signal to the ventilation unit to increase the fan speed. This function is well-suited for use in premises not used around the clock, such as in schools, day nurseries, offices, etc. Humidity sensor. The sensor detects when the humidity rises and transmits a signal to the ventilation unit to increase the fan speed. It can be located in a sauna, a bathroom, a laundry room, etc. The control panel of the Premium cooker hood. Carbon dioxide sensor. The sensor detects an increase in carbon dioxide and transmits a signal to the ventilation unit to increase the fan speed. It is suitable for use in rooms where the number of occupants varies. DDC control. Enables you to change the fan speed from a remote controller, for instance. Modbus gateway. A Modbus field bus card for remote control of the ventilation unit. 5

Optional equipment Premium cooker hood A cooker hood specifically designed for connection to the type R85 ventilation unit. The cooker hood can be connected via duct or directly to the ventilation unit. Integrated control panel for the ventilation unit. Neutral and stylish design. Low sound level. Optional equipment for the ventilation unit Premium control panel The control panel can be installed at an optional location, recessed in a junction box or surface mounted on a wall. It can be located near the ventilation unit or somewhere else, and then must be connected to the unit via a 20 metre long modular cable. An extra control panel can also be connected, if it is desirable to control the ventilation unit from several places. Front plate of the door Premium Classic cooker hood Premium control panel The front plate is available in the following colours: white and stainless steel. Reheating cassette The ventilation unit is supplied as standard with a white door. As an optional extra, the door s front plate can be ordered in a version made of stainless steel. Reheating cassette The 500 W electric air heater for reheating the supply air downstream of the heat exchanger is a factory-fitted, optional item of equipment. The air heater is switched on when the temperature of the supply air is below a preset value. The heater is wired by means of quick-fit connectors. Mounting frame for ceiling/wall installation Mounting frame with quick-fit connectors for mounting the ventilation unit on the ceiling or wall Mounting frame with moisture barrier The mounting frame has a moisture barrier which prevents moisture from entering the insulation in the attic joist floor and stops the air from the loft from coming down into the rooms. Replacement filters There are 2 class F7 fine filters in the set of filters. Replacement filters Roof mounting frame Mounting frame with moisture barrier 6

Optional equipment System products The ventilation unit is a part of an economical and attractive ventilation system for homes. Premium Swing controllable cooker hood Swegon offers a complete series of products for home ventilation. In that all the components are supplied by the same subcontractor, you are assured that they operate reliably together and this enables you to select properly sized products. This makes it possible, for instance, to control the ventilation unit from the cooker hood. Premium cooker hoods The Premium cooker hoods are sized specifically for connection to the ventilation unit with Premium control engineering. If you do not want to connect the cooker hood to a ventilation unit, you can select a controllable cooker hood, for instance, and connect it to a power roof ventilator. 8 Installation Outdoor air Supply air Extract air Exhaust air Suitable installation locations are laundry rooms, storage spaces, etc. The temperature in the space should be warmer than +10 C. The ventilation unit should be mounted on the wall by means of the wall mounting bracket supplied. It is also possible to mount the unit against the ceiling with a ceiling mounting frame, available as optional equipment. Extract air from the cooker hood The ventilation unit has extra duct connections for extract air both on its top and bottom side. The extract air from the cooker hood flows directly out via the extract air fan of the unit and does not pass the heat exchanger. The extract air from the kitchen should not be extracted via the cooker hood, since this airflow bypasses the heat exchanger. Three installation alternatives 1. The Premium cooker hood connected via duct to the ventilation unit The extract air from the Premium cooker hood is conveyed via a duct to an extra duct connection on the top of the ventilation unit. The ventilation unit can be controlled from the control panel of the cooker hood or, if required, also from a separate control panel (optional equipment). How the R85 operates. Extract air from the cooker hood 2. A Premium cooker hood directly connected to the ventilation unit A good alternative for replacing an old cooker extraction fan with a new one is to install the ventilation unit as you would a wall cabinet on the wall above the cooker by means of the wall mounting bracket. The Premium cooker hood can be connected directly to a duct connection on the underside of the ventilation unit. The Premium cooker hood is available in both a right-hand and left-hand version, so that it will fit the ventilation unit in a right-hand or left-hand version. The ventilation unit can be controlled from the control panel of the cooker hood or, if required, also from a separate control panel (optional equipment). 3. Separate controllable cooker hood The extract air from the controllable cooker hood should be connected to a separate power roof ventilator. The ventilation unit is controlled from a separate control panel (optional equipment). The best way to control the power roof ventilator is from the cooker hood control panel. The ventilation unit can receive a status signal from the cooker hood, to activate the negative pressure compensation function when the power roof ventilator starts up. 1. The Premium cooker hood connected via duct to the ventilation unit. 2. A Premium cooker hood directly connected to the ventilation unit Separate controllable cooker hood and power roof ventilator.
