6 What should be known if you want to choose the most suitable air handling unit? Ventilation is characterised by amount of the air and the frequency of air change. The amount of air is the volume of air in premise (m 3 ). The frequency of air circulation shows how many times the air changes in premise per hour. The frequency of air change recommended in residential premise is at least one time for comfortable conditions. Consequently, such a simple formula can be used to estimate in advance the air flow of the unit: The quadrature of a living area (m 2 ) х The height of a residential premise (m) х The frequency of air circulation 1,0 h -1 For instance: residential area is 75 m 2, ceiling height is 2,7 m, consequently: 75 х 2,7 х 1,0 = 202 m 3 /h. The aproximate air flow of a unit (air supply/exhausted air) will be about 200 m 3 /h. This estimate is not the rule; the necessary air flow of a unit can be noticeably higher because the frequency may be estimated according to the effect that we are seeking.
