3 Warnings on refrigerant leakage Refrigerant density limit The MiNi-S-MMS contains refrigerant R-410A. This refrigerant is intrinsically safe without the toxicity or combustibility of ammonia. R-410A is a non-ozone depleting refrigerant, however in some countries is may be considered to be a hazardous waste product and must be handled appropriately. Risk of suffocation through leakage of R-410A is minimal, however, with the recent increase in the number of highdensity buildings using air conditioning, installers should ensure that it is impossible to exceed density limits in the event of a refrigerant leak. This is of particular importance where air conditioning is to be installed into small, occupied spaces. In a space where there is a risk of the density limit being exceeded, appropriate measures must be taken to guarantee the safety of occupants (e.g. leak detection equipment). 23 Correction for frosting on the outdoor unit heat exchanger in heating mode In the heating mode the outdoor unit becomes susceptible to frost forming on the heat exchanger. This reduces the efficiency, by inhibiting the amount of heat transfer from the environment to the refrigerant. The graph below corrects for any loss in duty associated with this effect. 24 Example of equipment selection The following shows an example of equipment selection based upon a building model. Procedure of equipment selection a. Calculate the heat gain (cooling requirement) and heat loss (heating requirement) for every room. b. Select an indoor unit to match the heat gain/loss in each room. c. Select the outdoor module to match the indoor units selected in point b. Select the outdoor modules based on the critical factors and the combination rule. Choose a tentative outdoor module that will match the indoor units, and check whether the selection agrees with the combination rule. Perform the capacity correction based on the pipe length, system lift, indoor set temperature, outdoor temperature. Then, make sure the corrected system capacity satisfies the cooling and heating demand. 2. 34 1-5. Wiring guidelines CAUTIONS (1) Keep the refrigerant piping system and the indoor-indoor/indoor-outdoor control wiring systems together. (2) When running power supplies and control wires parallel to each other, run them through separate conduits or maintain a suitable distance between them General 1. Power supply wiring is to be in compliance with local regulations. 2. Control wiring between the outdoor unit and the indoor units should be 2-core screened to prevent electromagnetic noise. 3. A residual current device (RCD) should be fitted to the indoor unit power supply. 4. Never connect the power supply to the control wiring terminal block (U1, U2, U3, U4). Damage will occur. 5. Run control wiring with the refrigerant pipes. 6. Arrange the cables so that the electrical wires do not come into contact with high temperature parts of the pipework. 7.
