8 Vashon Yard & Food Waste Collection A total of 2,682 customer visits generated 584 tons of yard waste in the first 12 months of the pilot. Pilot ended and collection made permanent. 8

9 Styrofoam & Plastic Film Collection Pilot started at Shoreline in March 2016 Pilot expanded to Bow Lake in June Twenty-four thousand pounds of polystyrene and plastic film was collected in 2016 Transportation costs are very high and are of concern. Evaluate onsite processing in coming months 9

10 Fluorescent Bulbs Collection of mercury lighting including fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent bulbs under the Washington State sponsored program LightRecycle continued in A total of 31,158 pounds of spent mercury lighting was collected more than doubling the previous year. An estimated 63,000 bulbs 10

11 Resource Recovery Pilot began at the Shoreline Recycling and Transfer Station in April Target clean wood, scrap metal, and cardboard The pilot has a two-pronged approach. Directs self-haulers to recycling bins where recyclable materials can be placed. Sort incoming mixed waste on the tipping and mechanically remove the cardboard, wood and metal 11

12 Resource recovery reaches milestone of 10,000 tons recovered since the program began.. Additional staffing, recycling bins, and signage in the self-haul areas is gaining momentum resulting in 5,861 tons of cardboard, metal, and wood recovered. 25 Self-haul Separation Requirement Require separation of yard waste, clean wood, cardboard, and scrap metal. These materials are not allowed to be disposed as garbage by self-haul customers Customers can place these items in bids adjacent to the garbage tipping floor, and/or in bins in the recycling collection areas. 25
