1 MEASURED PERFORMANCE DATA FOR HOUSE #4 INVERNESS GARDENS MILLER HOMES FEBRUARY 2013 Submitted to: NYSERDA 17 Columbia Circle Albany, NY Submitted by: HOMEPIC Team CDH Energy Corp. PO Box 641 Cazenovia, NY

2 Monitoring Approach A Campbell CR10x logger was installed to measure the performance of this house on Astilbe Path in Liverpool. The house was essentially unoccupied through May Table 1 lists the measurements that were taken and Figure 1 shows each point location in the system. Total power use was about 400 to 600 kwh per month once the house was occupied staring in June Hot water use was about gallons per day. The fan ran periodically throughout the year to provide ventilation. The total power for cooling was only 140 kwh for the 2012 cooling season, while fan power was about 450 kwh for the year (ranging from 25 kwh to 60 kwh per month once the controls were commissioned). 4 Utility bill data were only available for the early part of 2012 before the house was occupied (Table 3). We used a combination of the metered data and water heater runtime to predict some of the monthly values under occupied conditions (red data are estimates). 7 Space Heating Performance The Rheem Tankless unit was originally set to supply water at 133 F. However this was not sufficient to provide space heating to the house. The supply air was only 75 to 80 F. On Jan 15, 2012 the fan speed was slowed down and the supply air temperature increased to about 86 F (fan power decreased from 230 Watts to 118 Watts). However the house was still not maintained at set point temperature as shown by Figure 5 below. 9 On February 6 the supply water set point was increased to be F to increase the heating capacity of the heating coil in the. This increased the supply air set point to just over 100 F. The system satisfied the space heating set point at this condition (as evidenced by the cycling in Figure 8). Unit 02/05/12 to 02/10/12 Vnt Dmpr Htg Pmp Temperature (F) Supply Air Return Air Mixed Air Water Temperatures 02/05/12 to 02/10/12 Temperature (F) HW to Coil DHW Hot DHW Cold Solar Out Figure 7. 11 Ventilation Controller The data from May show the operation of the Honeywell Controller (fan cycler) which opens the damper (and runs the fan) for 36 minutes out of ever hour (60% of the time) to provide ventilation to the home. When the operated at 230 Watts the measured ventilation flow was 86 cfm, so the average ventilation across the hour was 52 cfm. The 2 3 F fluctuations in the return/space temperature in Figure 10 confirm the cyclic operation of the fan and ventilation damper on May (when no heating was required). 13 Solar Tank Performance In the summer the solar tank provides a large portion of the hot water heating. However, with the high hot water set point (near 190 F) the tankless unit is still required to operate more than expected. 14 Air Conditioner Performance The home owner operated the air conditioner intermittently. For the period shown in in Figure 12 below, the AC was activated when the space temperature exceeded 80 F on August 4, For the remainder of that week the set point was F. 2.0 Total Power (kw) Total AC Space Temperature (F) Figure 12.
