Ⅲ Basics of Vent Units Classification of Ventilation Type Ventilation type can be classified depending on the process of exhaustion or supplement. It is classified in to three types of class 1, 2 and 3. Alternating ventilation systems are recently introduced. Ventilation Type 1 Supply Fan Indoor Exhaust Fan Supply fan and Exhaust fan The pressure in the room can be controlled by two fans Ventilation Type 2 Supply Fan Indoor Natural Exhaust Fresh outdoor air is mechanically supply The room is in positive pressure ex) surgery room, clean room Ventilation Type 3 Exhaust Fan The stale air in the room is mechanically discharged Natural Supply Indoor The room is in negative pressure ex) kitchen, bathroom 6/33

Ⅲ Basics of Vent Units Classification of Ventilation Type Ventilation can be classified as central ventilation or individual ventilation depending on their control station location. Also, there is a blended version, floor zone type. 2-way Valve Pressure Valve Lounge Store Floor Radiators AHU FCU Store Cooling Tower Chiller Boiler Hall Office [ Central Ventilation] [ Floor Zone Type] [ Individual Ventilation ] 7/33

Ⅲ Basics of Vent Units Heat Recovery Ventilation Types Heat Recovery Ventilation is a system to recover lost heat energy at indoor and outdoor space in order to mange energy effectively. Heat recovery ventilations are classified into Enthalpy Heat Exchanger and Sensible Heat Exchanger depending in their heat exchange device material. Heat Energy Recovery Humidity Intrusion (Summer) Humidity Exhaust (Winter) Warm Area Condensation Ventilation Plan Cold Area Condensation Heat Exchange Device Contamination Enthalpy Heat Exchange - Enthalpy return is big because of sensible & latent heat exchange via humidity exchange. - More than 50% of humid outdoor air is exchanged thus controlling indoor humidity. 40~50% of humidity is constantly maintained because more than 50% of indoor humidity are exchanged. Bathroom needs a separate ventilation No condensation occurs - Exchange element becomes humid transmitting, making it hard to condense - It may condense under -15 Celsius but it can be prevented with intermittence operation - It s not easily contaminated because humidity is transmitted with osmotic pressure Sensible Heat Exchange - Enthalpy return is relatively small because it only performs sensible heat exchange - Indoor humidity is increased because all the outdoor humidity are not filtered - Indoor room becomes too dry because all the indoor humidity are exhausted - A bathroom included into the ventilation plan - Considerable amount of condensation in winter - Condensation and Freezing occurs easily - It may be problematic in cold areas because condensed water could freeze and block the ventilation port. - Outdoor unit/ventilation temp difference will result in condensation and allow germs to breed. - Left over humidity will contaminate the surface and cause decrease in exchange rate. Also, it is hard to clean. 8/33

Ⅲ Basics of Vent Units Heat Recovery Ventilation System Comparison Types Sensible heat exchanger Total enthalpy heat exchanger EA RA EA RA Flow OA SA OA SA Exchange Material Effect on supply air (Summer case) Usage Countries (main) Only Heat Aluminum Low temperature & same absolute humidity For summers : Low humidity For winters : High humidity Northern Europe Both Heat and moisture Paper/fiber Low temperature & lowered absolute humidity For summers : High humidity For winters : Low humidity Mid East, East Asia Heat movement Water vapor 9/33

Ⅲ Basics of Vent Units W.H.R.V System Comparison for Heat Recovery Rate 11/33

Ⅲ Basics of Vent Units Vent System Energy Recovery Efficiency Calculation Enthalpy heat exchange system can be used to expect high energy efficiency compared to vent system or sensible heat exchanger. Also, it is more than 39% efficient than sensible heat recovery system concerning heat recovery rate and price. System Type Simple Vent Sensible Vent Enthalpy Vent System Summary Simple ventilation with wall fans and such without heat exchange Forced or simple heat exchanger with PP element Heat and humidity exchanger with special pulp materials Heating and Cooling energy consumption caused by the ventilation Recovery Rate Cool 100% (6.63 kw/h) 87% (5.77 kw/h) 51% (3.38 kw/h) Heat 100% (12.79 kw/h) 41% (5.22kW/h) 33% (4.22 kw/h) Cool 100% (0.86 kw/h) 378% (3.25 kw/h) Heat 100% (7.57 kw/h) 113% (8.57 kw/h) Annual Recovery Rate 93,000 KRW (classroom) 129,000 KRW (classroom) Standard ventilation rate of a high school classroom in Seoul with 30 people capacity,800 CMH. It can be seen with the above result that Enthalpy ventilation is superior with air conditioning of summer period, which is greatly affected by outdoor humidity. 12/33

Ⅲ Basics of Vent Units Heat Recovery Vent System Principals Heat Recovery Ventilation System is Fan only ventilation Enthalpy heat exchange ventilation 25% Energy saving Compared to fan only ventilation, enthalpy heat exchanger Eco V economizes electricity bill. Environment friendly by energy saving. 13/33

Ⅳ Vent Products / Design Vent System Operation Mode Normal Ventilation (Spring / Fall) Heat Exchange Ventilation (Summer / Winter) Damper Damper Outside Inside Outside Inside Enthalpy Ventilation Operation Mode : Temp and humidity exchange operation mode during the cold and hot season Normal Vent Mode( 1) Bypass Ventilation ) : An operation mode to perform bypassing RA into the indoor without humidity & heat exchange through a damper within the unit. The operation mode is effective in crowded area such as classrooms and libraries during the mid seasons such as spring or autumn. (Normal vent mode is seized and only Enthalpy vent mode is performed when outdoor temp decrease under 8 ) Automatic Vent Mode: automatic ventilation mode that alternates Enthalpy and normal operation mode depending on the temperature that is detected by a sensor located within the unit (at OA & RA) 1) Bypass Ventilation : A term to describe certain ventilation that involves exhaustion only. * ordinary and automatic mode is only available with models that are higher than 350CMH 26/33

This will continue from mid September to mid November and you can see that simple air conditioning is more efficient than Enthalpy ventilation. Outdoor air ventilation is more effective and efficient with crowded interior space like offices and classrooms than residential housings. 27/33

Ⅳ Vent Products / Design Vent System Soundproof Performance Plate type individual vent system is structured with delicate plate gaps. Simple vent system or natural ventilation like opening windows will allow noises from outside to freely enter the space. Because noises are caused with atmospheric vibrations, the air vibration will be reduced while it are passing through delicate plates of plate type ventilation system. Such reduction of vibrations will result in reduced noises. Generally speaking, 80dBA noise level from outside will reduce to 40dBA when it enters indoor via plate type ventilation. 28/33
