I am here to serve the Society with each of you. I am counting on everyone s support and involvement in Hope all are ready! A hearty thanks to Carol Stauder for serving as President for the past two years and all the service she has given to the Society over many years. And a special thanks to the outgoing board for their service in getting us this far. I am hoping this year will one of development as we start to implement the committees which Molly Prokop has been working on. With everyone s participation there is no reason we cannot make great progress this year. If any of you have any suggestions for improvement to the things we already do, or new things we might want to test out, please do not hesitate to me (rderochejr@hotmail.com) with those suggestions. Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and started the New Year with great plans, good health, and passion for the year ahead. Sorry for those of you who missed the Holiday Social at Lakeview Presbyterian Church because you missed some very good food and fun. Thanks to all the cooks! Also, thanks to Marian Prigmore and Nancy Click for the setup and decorations, and to all who helped pick up the tables, chairs, and decorations after we finished stuffing ourselves. The cleanup was accomplished very quickly with all the help we had. The new officers were installed and I reluctantly accepted the gavel; however, with the wonderful support I have on the board, it looks like it will be a great year. My sincere thanks to Randy Johnson for serving as our Vice-President, Peggy White as our Treasurer, Ann Ebert as our Secretary (who was already busy collecting dues at the Social). And a thank you to our Trustees: Ian Hiler, Molly Prokop, and Vienna Mackey. And a big thank you to Alice Barrios (along with Eddie) for her many years as Treasurer and service to the Society. May our thoughts and prayers make the New

2 Year a healthier one for you. Our first show of the season will be in Gautier, MS, from Thursday, January 28th through Sunday, January 31st. Thanks to those who have volunteered to set up and take down the show. If anyone else can be there to help, it will be much appreciated. Setup is from 4 6 PM on Thursday and breakdown is at 4 PM on Sunday. If you have any plants for the exhibit please their names to Carol Stauder by Wednesday, January 27 (seestauder@hotmail.com or call ). You can bring your groomed and staked exhibit plants to her house on Wednesday, January 27th before 8 PM, or on Thursday, January 28th, before noon. Make sure your name tags are visible so she will be able to identify each one, and you have your name on each plant pot or basket. And a great thank you to anyone who is able to contribute. Setting up an exhibit does take a little skill and a lot of help, however, you can learn so much just helping to set up. Try it, you might just like it! It is dues time again! If you haven t yet, please pay your dues as soon as possible. Remember we are a Society made up of volunteers and the more volunteers we have, the easier it is for all of us. If you know of anyone who might be interested in becoming a member of the Society, please invite them to come along as a guest. A heart-felt thanks to the volunteers who continue to give their service to the Society. Larry Hennessey, our newsletter editor, Debbie Dinwiddie, our website moderator, Carol Molero, our judging coordinator at each meeting, Ann Roth who purchases and houses our raffle plants, Arnie Stauder and Debbie D. who have helped sell the raffle tickets. And a most sincere thank you to Max Mipro for all he has done for the Society for many years. I hope to find many more names here in the months to come. Just remember the more you volunteer, the more you learn. Participation is the best method for learning more about orchids and the Society, and who knows you might just make some life-long friends in the process. Try it and see! Russel Deroche, Jr. ** Meeting Location ** For the next 6 months January's meeting location is Lakeview Presbyterian Church located at 5914 Canal Blvd located just 1 block north of I-610. The location is easier to reach than our regular meeting place at City Park. Go 1 block north of I-610 and turn left on Brooks St (note it is a 1-way street), park in the large parking lot in the back and come in the back door. If you need directions, go to Google Maps 5914 Canal Blvd. This Month's Program John Stubbings of Clown Alley Orchds, Houston, TX will present "Orchids in Heaven". The top ten list of how they are sent to heaven followed by the 12 steps to redemption. Actually a new look at culture of orchids with lots of tips and humor. Cut off date is noon Monday January 18th. He will be bringing plants and supplies to sell at the meeting.

Box, so the secretary can have you current with your dues for It makes the secretary's job a lot easier if they don't have to remind people to pay their dues month after month as the new year starts. Note from Carol Stauder To all NOOS members: I'd like to thank everyone for the gift card you gave me at the Holiday Social. I truly appreciate the spirit in which it was given and will most likely use it to buy more orchids. Thank you all so much. See you at the next meeting. Carol Books donated from Lilia and Paul Young's Estate Long time members Paul & Lilia Young's daughter has donated 3 boxes of books to the society. Marian Prigmore is currently in possession of the books. It was decided to offer these to the membership as first come first served. When requesting a book from Marian, please list the box number the book is in along with the title. You can request a book with an to Marian at woodenbox@bellsouth.net.
