13 Standards & Practices S&P Subcommittee Being Planned by Paul Bodeau In my work with safety systems, I am questioned all the time about how to develop safety system components to comply with IEC Even when I lecture on the subject, that only brings more questions. I believe that specific examples of how to comply with the various clauses and subclauses of IEC would answer these questions. So I plan to work with the ISA Los Angeles Section Board to establish an S&P subcommittee with the charter to develop a hypothetical safety system component and publish all the relevant work products required to support compliance to IEC These work products will be published on the ISALA.org website and my website for review and feedback by all. This is a very ambitious project. I hope to elicit help from the membership. Maybe you will want to participate. Training will be provided as necessary for volunteers. Read next month s Newsletter for information on this new S&P subcommittee. Paul Bodeau is Standards and Practices Chair with ISA Los Angeles Section and can be reached at Why Not Engineering at (562) or pbodeau@whynotengineering.com. Automation OC Training, continued Chief Scientist and Director of Applications Development at H2scan Corporation at Valencia, CA, he is the author of six industry publications and twelve patents in the gas / hydrogen sensor subject area and authored Hydrogen Sensing and Detection, in CRC Press s Hydrogen Fuel: Production, Transport, and Storage. In-Situ vs Extractive NOX/O2 CEMS: Field Test Comparisons of Performance & Operating Costs (To be confirmed) This presentation will compare in-situ and conventional extractive sampling systems with regards to NOX and O2 monitoring. We will discuss the factors such as probe design and dust loading that must be considered when evaluating an application for in-situ monitoring. The results of extensive field testing of in-situ analyzers on economizer and SCR units of coal-fired power plants will be presented. Those interested in reducing the costs incurred in emissions monitoring and process control should attend this class. Safe and Profitable Coke Drum Unheading (45 Min) Class description was not available at press time and will be posted at when received from instructor. Instructor from DeltaValve.
