Power Probe This description applies to Power Probe version The Power probe monitors specific snmp values from interruptible power supplies, power distribution units, and automatic transfer switches. Version 1.01 of the probe ships configured to talk to APC devices. Support for Liebert devices will be added in the next version. Probe Requirements The probe requires: SNMP devices that respond to broadcast discovery Java 1.6 or greater (on the robot machine, where the probe runs) The configuration user interface requires: Windows XP.Net 3.5 sp1 Do NOT run Windows SNMP services with this probe Available Measurements The following are monitored by the probe (with their SNMP names and OIDs) UPS Output Power (upsadvoutputload, ) UPS Input Voltage (upsadvinputlinevoltage, ) UPS Output Current (upsadvoutputcurrent, ) UPS Battery Status (upsadvbatteryreplaceindicator, ) UPS Output Voltage (upsadvoutputvoltage, ) UPS Output Status (upsbasicoutputstatus, ) UPS Battery Temperature (upsadvbatterytemperature, ) UPS Battery Time Remaining (upsadvbatterytimeremaining, ) UPS Phase Output Power (upsphasoutputpower, ) UPS Phase Input Power (upsphaseinputpower, ) PDU Output Power (xpdusystemoutputpower, )
PDU Output Apparent Power (xpdusystempoutputtotalapparentpower, ) PDU Total Output Power(xPDUSystemOutputTotalPower, ) PDU Total Output Power Factor (xpdusystemoutputtotalpowerfactor, ) PDU Output Power Factor (xpdusystemoutputpowerfactor, ) Probe Configuration The probe is configured by double-clicking the probe in the Infrastructure Manager, which brings up the configuration user interface. The tree, located on the left of the interface, is used to navigate to various settings panes. The settings panes, located on the right are used to edit settings for the various aspects of the probe. The buttons pane contains the buttons used to commit changes to the probe and to get help. Clicking on the Setup node in the tree on the left displays the Setup pane. Configuration Setup View Illustration 1:Setup Pane The Setup pane specifies the interval to be used for discovery, the IP address ranges to use and the
community strings to use for SNMP discovery. There are limitations on the ranges that can be specified. The first two octets must contain single valid values. The last two octets can be used to specify an octet range, fore example During discovery a broadcast request is made and valid responding devices are added to the list of available devices. The current list valid devices are all of those enumerated in APCs mib ( powernet398-mib). Any valid SNMP community string can be entered. To add IP address ranges or community strings first enter the value in the text box of the Include or Community String sections, then click the '+' button. Removing IP address ranges or community strings is done by highlighting the item in the list (on the bottom of their respective sections) and then clicking the '-' button. Multiple items may be selected.
Power Efficiency Configuration View Illustration 2: Power Efficiency View The Power Efficiency Configuration View is used to specify which measurements to use for the calculation of PUE and DCiE. Open each individual device in the two trees, IT Equipment Power Measurements and Facility Power Measurements, to list the applicable SNMP variables. Check the check box adjacent to the variable to use the variable's power measurement as part of IT Equipment Power and Facility Power. The Sample Interval is used to specify how often to obtain measurements from the selected SNMP variables. The CO2 Multiplier is used to calculate the daily rate of CO2 emissions using the power aggregated over the Facility Power measurements.
Operations Configuration View Illustration 3: Operations View The Operations Configuration View is used to configure the monitoring of individual values. The available measurements are those that are present on the device and are also in the list of Available Measurements (see introduction). The Sample Interval is used to specify how often to obtain measurements from the selected SNMP variables.
Alarm Configuration View Illustration 4: Alarms View The Alarm View is used to manage Alarms for the specified measurements. To add a measurement to the Alarm View first select the desired measurement from the Operations View then drag the measurement to the alarm node in the left tree. The alarms parameters are edited using the pane located on the bottom right, Alarm Details. The following can be set: Active When checked the measurement is checked to see if the measurement falls within the
alarm criteria Threshold Specifies the threshold for the alarm measurement Condition Specifies the type of comparison for the alarm (GreaterThan, LessThan, EqualTo) Active Severity The severity sent in the alarm message when alarm becomes active Inactive Severity The severity sent in the alarm message when the alarm becomes inactive Active Message Text to send in the alarm message when the alarm becomes active Inactive Message Text to send in the alarm message when the alarm becomes inactive
