1 HiGain H2TU-C-319-L72 Line Unit Quick Installation Guide OVERVIEW The H2TU-C-319-L72 (H2TU-C) line unit is the Central Office (CO) side of a T1 transmission system designed to mount in 3192 mechanics shelves. The H2TU-C, when used with an H2TU-R-402- L72/L7 remote unit, transmits a Mbps payload on one unconditioned copper pair over the full Carrier Service Area (CSA) range. FEATURES Transmission features: Full-duplex HDSL2 transmission on one copper pair. Grounded loop detection on HDSL2 span. Loop attenuation and insertion loss reporting. Non-volatile storage of performance monitoring parameters. Customer disconnect indication (AIS-CI and RAI-CI alarm patterns). Performance Report Messaging (PRM). HiGain Management Unit (HMU) Support - Local and Remote Management INTAS Management Support (via TL1 FDL): Flow-through and interactive modes are supported for provisioning, performance monitoring, and testing. Maintenance screens (via craft or HMU): For inventory, provisioning, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting. Front-panel features: Craft port to access all system maintenance, provisioning, and performance screens. Four-character display for status, provisioning, and alarm messages when a terminal is not available. MODE and SEL pushbuttons for manual monitoring or setting system configuration when a terminal is not available. Status LED for quick status and alarm indication. LoopShield features: Cable-Safe Span Powering new, low-voltage span powering is safe for all cable types. Remote Frame Ground Detect INTAS, Craft screen, and front panel visibility of faulty or missing remote chassis frame ground connection. Bert-On-Board TM integrated On-Board BER Test (BERT) functionality. LoopShield 2 features: Enhanced Lightning Protection (ELP) protection on both the CO and RT HDSL2 interfaces. Non-Intrusive Internal Cable Test (NICT): - Identifies the type and location of cable faults. - Reports loop length on good loops. Dynamic Power Back-Off (DPBO): - Reduces crosstalk into other services in the same binder. - Enables safe use of Enhanced Power Back-Off (EPBO). - Works in conjunction with Non-Intrusive Retrain (NIR) for maximum performance at all times. Non-Intrusive Retrain (NIR): - Recovers margin due to changing loop conditions before service is affected. - Maintains service while recovering margin. - Works in conjunction with DPBO for maximum performance at all times. Self-Healing Retrain restores service when the circuit s performance degrades below optimal BER and margin conditions. - Works in conjunction with DPBO and NIR for maximum performance at all times. IMPORTANT! Under certain rare environmental/deployment conditions, the remote frame ground status may not be reported correctly. When this occurs, you can disable the Remote Frame Ground Detect feature using Craft screens or INTAS commands. For descriptions of these conditions and how to address them, consult the applicable HiGain user manual. Page 1 of 8 STEP 1: INSTALLATION ATTENTION Wear an antistatic wrist strap when installing the H2TU-C. Avoid touching components on the circuit board. Step Action 1 Align the H2TU-C with the shelf card-slot guides and slide the unit into place (Figure 1). 2 Lightly press on the H2TU-C front panel to secure the unit in the shelf. H2TU-C Figure 1. Installation CO shelf H0200-B STEP 2: VERIFICATION When the H2TU-C powers up, the four-character display illuminates and displays Status messages (Table 1). If the H2TU-C is unable to communicate with the H2TU-R, it displays alarm and status messages. If the H2TU-C is able to communicate with the H2TU-R, the following occurs: The Status LED flashes red while acquiring the H2TU-R and then turns a steady green when the entire system is operating with no alarms. (The DS1 signal must be present.) The front-panel display reports: - The Local and Remote Margin (LM and RM) readings (which should be > 6 db). - The Loop and Remote Attenuation (LA and RA) (which should be < 28 db). After power up, any existing alarm conditions are reported on the display. (The H2TU-C reports alarms if no DSX-1 signal is applied.) (Refer to Table 1 for details).
