5 AMOS Introduction 5 The Advanced Metering Outage System (AMOS) is PECO s set of software components used to incorporate outage information from the AMI network with internal PECO systems involved in the outage management process

7 Nested Outage Identification 7 Nested Outage definition: when one area is affected by multiple issues on the circuit Customers within nested outages historically had long outage durations Nested Outage Identification within AMOS Provide AMI information to OMS users to assist with determining if closing an OMS event is appropriate in an effort to avoid nested outage situations AMI Meter Data used: Power Restore alarms Power Fail alarms Ping On Ping Off OMS user calls AMOS service to search for nested outages within an outage event Automatic and manual options Nested outage information is displayed to OMS users via map

10 Automatic Meter Pinging 10 Secondary Outage Events Auto-pinged every 20 minutes Ping on: Auto-cancelled Exceptions: Outage events with comments, repeat callers Ping off: Remainder of transformer is auto-pinged If Transformer Pings off the outage event is escalated from a secondary outage event to a primary outage event If Transformer Pings on the outage event remains in OMS Secondary Outage Events with comments SEAL Secondary Event Action List Allows AMOS users to read comments to determine appropriate action Outage events can be cancelled, escalated, or left alone

12 Automatic Meter Pinging 12 Primary Outage Events Auto-ping outage events that have evidence of restoration At least 75% of meters that sent a Power Fail alarm must have also sent a Power Restore alarm Each transformer in outage event is evaluated If there is no AMI data for any meters on the transformer, Transformer Analysis is performed o 3 meters on transformer randomly pinged to determine status Otherwise perform a ping for every meter on transformer that has not been verified ON by either Power Restore or Ping On Reduces need for any manual pinging Nested Outage Identification benefits from auto-pinging process Process checks for ping data

14 Event Closure Recommendations 14 Primary Outage Events Event must be restored for at least 5 minutes Meter power status alarms and ping data is utilized Customer call types are checked Event cannot be recommended for closure if any customers had call type of Flicker, High Voltage, Low Voltage, or Part Out Events recommended for closure displayed on Open Primary Events with Power Restores AMOS Report Includes how long ago outage event was recommended for closure

16 Automated Correction of Outage Event Durations 16 Consensus Restoration Process Process runs nightly Utilizes AMI Meter Power Restore alarms Outage events are created by Power Fail alarms or SCADA, so there is rarely need to adjust the OMS Outage Start Time At least 50% of customers on transformer have to have a Power Restore alarm at nearly the same time On average PECO receives 90% of Power Restore alarms from meters Outage events with transformers that do not meet the 50% threshold get pulled out for manual review Power Restore alarm timestamp is used, and OMS Restoration Time is automatically updated All changes are tracked via dashboard
