2 Welcome to a fresh round of handpicked news from IKEA! The news this August are products that have a contemporary look and feel. In keeping with this year s textile focus, there are the vibrant, folky fusions of LAPPLJUNG textile collection and the bold pattern of KAJSAMIA curtains. KLIPPAN sofa and SKRUVSTA swivel armchair also have new textile options in eye-catching designs by Cilla Ramnek. Plus, there s lots of creativity in store with textiles like GURINE and TIDNY metre fabrics. Across the home, you ll see more clean, white lines like in FÄRGLAV quilt cover and pillowcases, SVEIO chests of drawers and the now-complete TISDAG lighting series with built-in LED. We ve improved some classics like KALAS children s dinnerware and created some products that are sure to be classics like ROTVIK bamboo lamps and HEKTAR oversized lamps. 5 Natural, comfortable, leather KIVIK Grann leather dark brown PE PE Like a pair of well-travelled leather boots, KIVIK Grann leather sofa in dark brown is ready for years of comfort that s easy to care for and hardwearing. Generous, with soft and deep seats, the KIVIK series consists of a one-seat section, two- and three-seat sofas, a chaise longue and footstool. The seat cushions have a top layer of memory foam that moulds softly to your body s contours to relieve pressure yet regains shape when you get up. As for the surface, it s a carefully selected high quality grain leather that s lightly finished and comes from animals used in the food industry around the world (mostly cows, but sometimes goats). First, the hides are tanned or preserved. Then the leather is through-dyed and oiled. Finally, it s finished with a thin, protective dye that breathes and preserves its soft, warm feeling. This light finish also means leather s natural variations and nuances are visible. And the dye allows the leather to age naturally and will stay beautiful, soft and supple with regular minimal treatment like vacuuming and cleaning. 6 PE PE Oversized statements HEKTAR lamps FYLLIG vase PE PE HEKTAR lamps add an oversized, vintage and industrial feel with floor, pendant and wall/clamp spotlight versions. The floor lamp stands 180 cm tall and the bigger pendant lamp has a 47 cm diameter. Designer Ola Wihlborg was assigned to make a clamp spotlight, but was so inspired by bistros, theatre stages and old factories of a bygone era that he just kept HEKTAR pendant lamp RM289 Designer: Ola Wihlborg. The simple metal form with the matt finish really stood out, and I thought it would also work well as a large pendant lamp and oversized floor lamp. So I designed a few more lamps. It takes enormous skills for the glassblowers to make FYLLIG vase, the siblings say. They stand in a line like rock stars and blow several kilos of molten glass through a narrow steel pipe to make the vases. Vintage, industrial and really, really big HEKTAR lamp PE series isn t shy about making an oversized statement. 9 A work lamp builds a family PE PE PE TISDAG lighting series In October 2011, the simple and sleek TISDAG work lamp was released. Now the TISDAG family is complete with new white wall, clamp, floor and pendant lamps all with built-in LEDs. Meaning Tuesday in Swedish, TISDAG lasts approximately 20,000 hours because of LEDs. That s roughly 833 Tuesdays of 24-hour light. And every lamp in the TISDAG series has an adjustable arm and head, so you can easily direct light where you want (and without burning yourself since LEDs don t get hot like halogen). Built-in LED light source. White. The challenge when we designed TISDAG was to make PE PE the lamp look as simple as possible, be stable, have few moving parts and high quality. Thanks to LEDs we could design a lamp that didn t need a cable leading from the base along the arm, all the way to the lamp head. Aside from being able to design lamps in totally new ways, LEDs are also good for the environment because they use up to 85% less energy than traditional light bulbs. 10 Spoonfuls of colour KALAS children s dinnerware PE PE A household staple, KALAS children s dinnerware is being re-released with new details that make meal times, party times or picnic times even brighter. The plastic bowl, plate, cutlery and mug sets are still dishwasher-safe, microwave-safe and BPA-free. No meal is ever mess-free, but now we ve designed in little details to make them a bit more mess resistant like raised edges and textured stripes for better grip. And to ensure every meal has an extra helping of love, we ve put a subtle heart pattern on the pieces, too. They re sold in the same way as before with each set containing a vibrant rainbow of six new colours according to function like bowls in one set, mugs in another. So if you want six place settings all in purple, you ll have to buy six sets of each. But if you just need a bag of multicolour bowls, that s possible, too! The re-released KALAS dinnerware has new colours and features like raised edges and textured stripes. PE KALAS means party or super in Swedish. 11 PE PE Leaves to love GURINE metre fabric ÖVERENS dinnerware Designers Lisa Ullenius and Sissi Edholm often get their inspiration from nature and flora with their leafy motifs, GURINE metre fabric and ÖVERENS dinnerware are no exception. GURINE metre fabric could become lots of things around the house like curtains, wall hangings or tablecloths. But most of all, GURINE wants to be cushions. To make it easy to create cushions, Lisa and Sissi included both straight and mirrored motifs as well as dotted lines, which guide scissors the whole way around. Lisa and Sissi found inspiration for the pattern in their leaf-covered courtyard outside their office in Stockholm s Old Town. We scanned leaves into the computer and outlined them, drew and cut out forms by hand and experimented until we found the different motifs, says Lisa. They ve become a bit like fantasy leaves, inspired by nature but no specific type of leaf. ÖVERENS dinnerware are microwave and dishwasher safe earthenware that come in bowls and different-sized plates in white and green. Whether using only ÖVERENS or combining it with another set, the pattern makes it easy to create a personal table setting. With five repeated and mirrored motifs, it s easy to sew cushions from GURINE metre fabric. PE PE Leafy GURINE metre fabric could become many things like curtains, wall hangings or tablecloths. Most of all, it wants to be cushions. The fantasy leaves of ÖVERENS dinnerware are designed by Lisa Ullenius and Sissi Edholm, who hope the organic forms inspire others to present food in new and creative ways. 12 PE PE Ode to a colouring book TIDNY metre fabric Look closely at the new TIDNY metre fabric and you ll find a varied cast of characters, places and things. Cactuses, palm trees, airplanes, mountains, gardens and even camels dot this black and white textile landscape. It s like a colouring book for children and adults alike, with plenty of room to let imaginations run wild. PE When we designed TIDNY we wanted to make a fabric that people could have fun with and would inspire their creativity, say designers Sissi Edholm and Lisa Ullenius. We started by drawing a fantasy landscape, with only black contour lines. The idea is that you can use fabric pens to fill in the contours any way you like - to match the colours in your room or to bring out a theme in the pattern. But you can also use it just like it is, in black and white, of course. However it gets used throughout the house, TIDNY metre fabric is sure to spark lots of stories and several games of i spy. 13 Hang up a statement KAJSAMIA pair of curtains PE In quite bold blue and a little-less-bold black, the new KAJSAMIA curtains are an easy way to make a style statement with a strong pattern and ready-to-hang eyelets. Designer Emma Hagman didn t intend to create such a bold pattern, but since she always draws by hand, she never really knows what will happen! I let my hand float across the paper to make a discovery and surprise myself, Emma says. Often, the result turns out completely different than expected. In this case with KAJSAMIA, the graphic pattern with modern Scandinavian style turned out to be a tree with strong character. I think of it as a person standing tall, proud and brave, with its head held high, she says. Maybe it could even become a classic one day. What do you see in KAJSAMIA curtains? For designer Emma Hagman, it s a person-like tree that s proud and brave with its head held high. PE KAJSAMIA isn t the kind of eyelet curtain to whisper. 14 Seating, softness, storage and more PE PE Designer Cilla Ramnek worked on the pattern for the Mollaryd sofa cover during a whole summer, a little bit every day.
