5 REFECTORY BUILDING CURRENT BUSH COURT SENATE BUILDING EXISTING FORM + Awkward addition and infill works + Ad-hoc servicing at rear + Original pure form diluted REDUCE & REFINE + Remove Bookshop - Return to pure form along the northern edge + Rediscover original northern balcony overlooking landscape + Remove the additions of the existing cafe & service lean-to structures + Remove portion of the roof
6 FUTURE BUSH COURT LANEWAY VIEWS & VISIBILITY + Open up the Restaurant to views of the Winter Garden + Open up the Refectory to view of the Winter Garden and northern sunlight + Open up Bush Court to be visible within the precinct NEW ROOF ELEMENT + Lift the central third of the roof to gain additional height within the Refectory + Natural light floods the internal spaces and greenery can establish within + Houses the Refectory under a familar roofscape seen throughout campus SERVICES & STORAGE + Provide a considered and concealed facility for services at the rear + Refine roof forms to gable ends to ground the western edge + Provide appropriate storage for the University, Guild and tenants MOVEMENT & CONNECTION + Create the Laneway connection into the Summer Courtyard + Create the double-height portal to the Northern Terrace & Winter Garden + Create a legible and direct connection with Bush Court
