ARCHITECTURE & KEY COMPONENTS (Continued) Once the appropriate structural model is identified, the shape of the TALL BUILDING should evolve from this in order to impart SENSE & MEANING: 1. BASE FOOT PODIUM This is the base of the building & anchors it to the ground. It is the URBAN EXPERIENCE whereby users & pedestrians engage with the building & interact with it at GROUND level. Pedestrian movement is encouraged in form of pedestrian streets, alley ways and top quality pavements. Same should be designed to unlock views & encourage easy access, while connectivity is key as it encourages optimum use of amenities provided. Human activity & visibility is encouraged and desired. The gregarious nature of the human species should be fulfilled. People like to see & be seen and amongst others; eating, drinking, chatting etc. The architecture should have variety, yet be of the same language - homogeneous, of the right scale, with the right mix of materials i.e. transparent where visibility is needed; opaque to hide the unnecessary. Human scale is necessary & should be provided with shelter, while being pleasant to the eye. The provision of landscaping is key, the more so in tropical settings. it should form part of the composition, albeit visual & physical. Landscaping can bring value added to the overall composition & enhance the experience. 2. MIDDLE TORSO SPINE This is the expression of verticality, as it connects the FOOT to the HEAD - expressing HEIGHT HEAD.Image Architects Studio Ltd It is an expression of VERTICALITY Structural elements are designed to express verticality and should be uninterrupted visually. The right choice of materials and their mutual contrasts should generate distinct vertical shades. The architectural composition of the torso spine should be made of vertical shapes & volumes. The strong contrast between the TORSO which is essentially vertical and the horizontality of the TOE, should be reinforced. 3. TOP HEAD APEX This relates to the sky, it is the extraordinary experience, the exceptional, ethereal & spiritual A tall building is not necessarily one which reaches out & pierces the sky, but can reach out and capture it - framing the view like an archway, a giant umbrella - that frames, protects & offers scenic beauty as part of a unique experience, almost spiritual. A unique variety of luxury offers should be included ie. infinity pool, sky bar, rooftop garden etc. as this would enhance the extraordinary experience. RESEARCH & INVESTIGATION STUDIES For CASE STUDY 01, we have used the recommended Best Practice to lead our investigations & research. 1.
