2 The Metropolitan Area Frankfurt/Rhein-Main Frankfurt / Rhein-Main is considered among the leading european metropolitan areas. The economic area Frankfurt / Rhein- Main has 5,5 million. inhabitants. Frankfurt / Rhein-Main is characterized by high dynamic economy and above national average gross domestic product. The area Frankfurt / Rhein-Main is affected by hard facts like money, banks and the international traffic hub (secondlargest airport in Europe, central motorway and railway lines hub) The area Frankfurt / Rhein-Main is still growing.

3 Increase of Urban Settlement Shrinking of Open Spaces Settlement and infrastructure areas are increasing at the expense of open spaces. Settlements are not enclosed in the landscape anymore but quite contrarily the open spaces are enclosed in a compressed urban framework.

8 Regional Green Corridors Since the 1960-ies regional green corridors are a tool in regional planning to protect landscapes Shortcomings of this concept: - Green corridors are defined negative, they are a tool for prevention. - The regional green corridors stayed unknown for the general public. - nevertheless landscape of the Rhein- Main-Region is shrinking furthermore.

9 Regionalpark RheinMain: Strategy the polycentric structure of the agglomeration, with its high fraction of open spaces reaching far to the core of the region is to be conserved. high quality ambience directly out off the front doors is an important soft location factor.
