3 AHAM s Business Data Program The efforts of AHAM member companies have buit a word-cass data program. Decision-makers throughout our industry, market anaysts, government, utiities and private sector, use the data to evauate our industry. AHAM s market data program is a powerfu too due to two of its significant characteristics: accuracy and timeiness. AHAM s Business Data Program AHAM members produce more than 94% of the products shipped for sae within the US. AHAM coects market information from member companies incuding: Industry shipments, doar vaue and characteristics. Most reports are coected and pubished on a monthy basis; some are done annuay. This information is coected from participating companies on a confidentia basis, aggregated, and reported back to member companies. 3

6 Saturation and Length of Ownership In addition to our manufacturer data coection program, AHAM conducts consumer research. Saturation Study conducted every 5 years. 1991, 1996, Detais the Saturation of major appiances by US census region Incudes the reasons and method of disposa, access to mutipe appiances, ength of ownership, and demographics. Saturation and Length of Ownership The average ength of appiance ownership varies from 6.5 years for a room air conditioners to 11.7 years for freezers In amost every category, the average age of units owned has either sighty decreased or remained the same since 1996, indicating that appiances are being repaced or eft behind more often than in
