6 VFW Veterans Luncheon On October 24th the Twinsburg VFW Post 4929 once again held a veterans luncheon. Twenty five veterans from the Wade Park Veterans Hospital attended and enjoyed a delicious lunch. Special thanks go out to all of the volunteers from Twinsburg Coldwell Banker, Twinsburg Mayor Ted Yates, Twinsburg VFW members and Ladies Auxiliary members and Twinsburg Garden Club members Sue Davis, Mary Gemlich, Marcia Jasany, Valerie Wales and past member Kaye Collins who helped to serve the lunch and socialize with the vets. Lunch was provided by Sharon Mounts of Catered For You and bakery by many wonderful local bakers. Thanks also to Girl Scout Troop who provided goody bags for each veteran to take back with them. TGC will once again be helping the Twinsburg VFW Ladies Auxiliary fill the gift bags that they will deliver to the Women s Unit at the VA Hospital. If you would like to donate to this cause, here is a list of some possible items you can purchase. We will have boxes for your donations at our Annual Swag Making Meeting on Thursday, November 16th. New knit hats, gloves, and scarves(provided by TGC) Toiletries including face and body lotions, soaps, deodorant, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, hair brushes Hand sanitizer, cosmetics, earrings, nail polish No candy - quite a few of the recipients are diabetic

7 Environmental Education Center Trip Recently several members of TGC visited the Environmental Education Center, one of the organizations supported by the club s Benevolence Committee last year. We found a well-organized facility that is open to many local school districts. Students from several schools were there on fieldtrips that day. They were involved in a variety of activities including games, songs, and seeing the sights. There were well-groomed trails, a special education building geared to indoor projects and art activities. The dorms were clean and had plenty of space for sleeping quarters. A garden behind the kitchen provided produce for the buffet meal that was offered. We also saw compost bins used for enriching the gardens. We were very pleased with the organization and felt our donation went to a good cause. Mary Gemlich Chairperson Benevolent Committee Valerie Wales, Sharon Yates, Mary Gemlich, Katie Wright, Environmental Education Center Director, Ada Pollak and Leah Widdon, contact person for the center.

8 Do you remember when Christmas was fun? At the Garden Club of Ohio 2017 Holiday Show North held on November 2nd our own creative floral designer, Marlene Hatton, revisited some of the holiday traditions we remember seeing throughout the years. Here are some of the beautiful designs created by Marlene at the program.

9 FALL PLANTING Hurry, time is running out to do your fall planting. To have beautiful flowers blooming in the spring you ll have to do some fall planting. As you can see from the chart below, there are many choices available and here is how to go about it. Planting depth is very important. The basic rule of thumb is that the hole should be at least three times as deep as the height of the bulb. Use the chart below for the required planting depth of your bulbs. Don t worry about your bulbs being planted an inch or two deeper than recommended, in most cases this provides the bulb with a little extra protection. For additional planting information check the bulb packinging for a variety of specific guidelines and planting tips. Suggestion: Try planting Pansies and Violas now. You can enjoy their happy blooms until the snow falls and then in the spring when the snow melts, they'll pop right back up with new color.
