Plemon "Coach" Hill celebrated his 40th anniversary as a part-time Recreation Leader at the Nova Community Center on March 11, In Coach's 40 years, he has been a mentor to countless Ormond youths. At Nova, he greets each young player with a "Hello, how was school today?" and makes sure they say hello to everyone in the office. Coach Hill gives advice to the youths on how to be a better player and the best person they can be. There are many days when someone who was in one of his classes, summer camp, or just played at the center, stops by and asks for Coach. Many days are made brighter when they get to shake the hand of their favorite mentor and recall favorite sayings and stories about Coach. The residents of the City of Ormond have been truly blessed to have had Coach Hill be a part of their lives. Thank you Coach Hill for all you do - you are truly appreciated!

2 PAGE 2 The Casements Guild Wants You! On Saturday s sunny but hectic morning, Seaside Herb Society s Spring Herb Faire featured many different vendors. While most booths featured herbs for sale, one booth in particular stood out. At a small table Sue Hansen, The Casements Guild Membership Committee spokesperson, encouraged passersby to attend the upcoming networking event and join The Casements Guild. While The Casements Guild provides tours of John D. Rockefeller, Sr. s winter home on weekdays and Saturdays, the organization acts as more than a docent group. The Guild not only assists with community events, such as Movies on the Halifax and Rockefeller Revisited, but also hosts the annual Christmas Gala and contributes to the home s preservation and restoration. Overall, The Casements Guild s mission is to support and promote the cultural center, serve as tour guides, engage in fundraising projects, host special functions, and maintain the gift shop. As a non-profit organization, The Casements Guild depends on volunteers to preserve local history and promote cultural education. The Casements Guild is seeking to expand its membership and encourages local residents to join. If you enjoy preserving history within your community, like to interact with people, and can spare a little time during the year, The Casements Guild encourages you to become a member today! At 10:00 a.m. on April 8th, The Casements Guild Membership Committee will host a Cake, Coffee, and Conversation meet and greet in the Preservation Room. 3 PAGE 3 City Hall and all non-emergency facilities will be closed on Friday, March 25, for the Good Friday holiday. There will be no Weekly Review next week. Regular office hours will resume on Monday, March 28. We re Off to see The Wizard! On Friday, April 1st, Rockefeller Gardens will have lions, and tigers, and bears! Oh, my! However, this isn t an April Fools Day prank; The Casements is showing The Wizard of Oz (1939). Follow the yellow brick road to 26 Riverside Drive to see the classic Technicolor film with Judy Garland. Enjoy an evening with Dorothy, Toto, and the rest of the gang as you snack on popcorn, refreshments, and sweet treats. Don t forget to bring your lawn chairs and blankets, and pay no attention to that man behind the movie screen! If you venture somewhere over the rainbow, you ll land in Rockefeller Gardens! Movies on the Halifax are free events open to the general public on the first Friday of each month. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy the film with your friends and family! Refreshments are available for purchase. The Wizard of Oz is rated G for general audiences. PARKS The Leisure Services Parks staff inspected the two playgrounds at the Sports Complex in order to schedule necessary repairs. Do Not Pick The Plants signs were installed at Ames Park to preserve the beauty of the park. New boards were cut, painted and installed on the bridge on Cherrywood Lane. All flags were lowered to half staff at our City parks in memory of former First Lady Nancy Reagan. Two new supports were installed under the slide at the playground at Fire Station 91 on A1A. As usual, citywide safety inspections were performed of all parks and equipment and weekly inspections were done of parks facilities for reservations. All park reservations were posted at various facilities.

4 PAGE 4 Seaside Herb Society s Spring Faire Locally grown jasmine, chives, oregano, and catnip comprised only a small sample of herbs sold at Seaside Herb Society s 20th Annual Spring Herb Faire. Held at Bailey Riverbridge Church and Gardens, Saturday s Spring Herb Faire acted as the organization s major fundraiser for the year. From 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on March 12th, nearly a dozen booths lined the Gardens and marketed fresh and dried spices, seasonings, and essences. Inside the church-turnedmeeting house, vendors sold flavorful tea, aromatic coffee, and baked goods flavored with herbs. As they shopped, customers enjoyed live steel drum music and wonderful sunny weather. Throughout the year, Seaside Herb Society maintains Bailey Riverbridge s herb garden located on the building s north side. Updated almost a year ago, the herb garden features raised beds that are both more user friendly and easier to maintain. From September to May, Seaside Herb Society meets on the third Saturday each month at 9:30 a.m. The group meets inside Bailey Riverbridge s Meeting House located at 1 North Beach Street in Ormond Beach. The meeting program on March 19th includes The Essence of Essential Oils and Anise Tastings. For more information, visit their website at or check out their Facebook page. Nowruz Festival No-Rooz Mobarak, or Happy Persian New Year! On Saturday, March 12th the Iranian American Society of Daytona Beach hosted their second Nowruz Festival in Rockefeller Gardens. Nowruz, which means new day in Farsi, celebrates spring s beginning and the Iranian New Year. From 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., hundreds of people gathered in the Gardens to enjoy free Persian New Year festivities and traditions. Attendees dined on delicious rice-based dishes, savored sweet desserts such as baqlava pastries and candied almonds, and marveled at the elaborate dance performances on the stage. The event also included a traditional tea house and Haft-Seen table arranged with seven symbolic items. Guests of all ages delighted in the Nowruz fun! The Iranian American Society of Daytona Beach, founded in 1997, uses literary and social events to promote Iranian culture and engage in crosscultural, education exchange.
