Alarm Overview FTAlarm monitors alarm conditions specified by the user across multiple devices. Alarms are entered in a spreadsheet format with up to 3150 Alarms per Alarm sheet. Triggered alarms can be logged, printed, audible wave and/or flashed to the screen. Configuring FTAlarm Communications To configure a device (items to which FTALARM will communicate with), select Device Source from the Setup menu. Adding a device starts the server and it will continue to run throughout the duration of the application (Figure 1). Figure 1 FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 1

All the configured devices for all the servers will be listed here sorted by device name. The name of the recently selected configuration file will be displayed in the static box on the bottom. If a new configuration file is selected this window will show nothing under Configured Devices. You can change the configuration file at any time by clicking on the Select button to bring up the Select Configuration File dialog shown below. All the configured devices will get saved here when you attempt a Save or Save As from the File menu. Select Configuration File Figure 2 Within the Select Configuration File dialog, you can create a new configuration file or open an existing one. If no configuration files exist, the New File radio button will be checked and the edit box within this group will hold a default configuration path and file. The path for the configuration file will default to the same path as the executable. You can modify the new file and/or path by editing this manually or select a new path and/or file by clicking on the Browse button to bring up common file dialog displayed below. 2 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. 4 Figure 3 Setting up Communications The list box within the Existing File group box will hold the most recently used (MRU) configuration files read from the registry similar to the MRU list of.alm files under the File menu The database file must include at least 4 fields (ADDRESS, TAG, Description, and COMMENT) in order. If these fields are not found, a documentation-mapping dialog will be displayed to map user fields to FasTrak fields described above. A tag is synonymous with a Workshop symbol and a description is synonymous with a Workshop label. Every device configured must have a corresponding doc file. The Communications Setup allows pre-configure of serial ports, a modem board, or network interface boards in your computer that are used for communications with a Device. To access the Communications Setup for a device complete the following: Adding Devices 1. To add a device, click Add Device from the Device Source Configuration screen. Result: The Add Device screen appears (Figure 4). FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 3

Figure 4 1. Each item that communications is setup/established with (normally referred to as device) must have a unique 64-character user defined name (Device Name). Under Device Name enter the unique 64- character name. 2. The Server drop down box is where the selection for the appropriate device manufacture is selected (505 Siemens, Modicon, Allen-Bradley, Demo, etc.). 3. The Communications Type drop down box is where the selection for the appropriate Device communications type is made (serial port or network board). Modification of the device name automatically updates the doc filename so that they mirror one another. If DemoServer is selected no other communication parameters need be or can be set. The Demoserver valid address types are listed below: DemoServer Supported Addresses Mod 5-digit Mod 6-digit Mod Siemens 505 AB5 Address Description :1 V1 N7:0 Writable :2 V2 N7:1 Writable :3 V3 N7:2 0.1 second timer :4 V4 N7:3 1 second timer Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. 7 4. Click OK to send the configuration to the server. Result: A connection is made to the doc database file for reading and writing. If the database you are connecting to do not match specifications such as a mismatch between table name or field names, the Documentation Database Mapping screen appears to map specific fields so that the software knows where various types of documentation reside (Figure 6). Figure 6 For the mapping to be successful, the fields' names must map to the table names. The fields that are mapped must be of type Text for address, tag, and description and Memo for the comment field. The lengths of the fields must be less than or equal to FasTrak s lengths for all fields except the comment field. The maximum character length is: Address = 64 Tag = 32 Description = 96 Failure to provide a valid mapping prevents the device from being added. Modifying Devices 1. To modify a device, click Modify Device from the Device Source Configuration screen. Result: The Modify Device screen appears (Figure 7). 6 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

Figure 7 1. Enter information in the Device Name and Documentation Setup fields. If the device is offline, you can change the Communications Setup parameters. 2. Click OK to send the configuration to the server. Deleting Devices 1. To delete a device, click Delete Device from the Device Source Configuration screen. 9 4. Click Select All and OK to delete all the devices for a selected server. The splitter portion of the window has been dragged all the way to the bottom. Alarm Sheet Appearance COLUMN LAYOUT The Alarm sheet, situated in the upper portion of the split window, is in spreadsheet form with customizable columns. Each column can be sized in one of two ways. The user can click and hold the left mouse button when in between 2 columns. By moving the cursor to the right or left a user can increase or decrease the column on the left. The user can also double click when in between 2 columns. Figure 9 Column 0:Row Row indicator (1-3150). Each row represents a single alarm created by choosing New under the Alarm menu. Currently, rows are not configurable. Column 1: Alarm Tag The alarm tag is a unique 32-character string that identifies the alarm equation in column 2. The user can add/edit the alarm tag from the Alarm Equation dialog box which gets displayed when double clicking anywhere in the alarm row or by selecting the New or Edit menus from the main menu Alarm. 8 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

Column 2: Alarm Equation The alarm equation defines an alarm situation. A simple alarm equation can involve up to four values. A complex equation can involve unlimited values the value can be a constant or read from a register belonging to any device that s attached to any FasTrak server. The alarm equation will display registers in the following format: address, tag,( value),device Each portion of a register is configurable (can be displayed or hidden). The user can add/edit the alarm equation from the Alarm Equation dialog box which gets displayed when double clicking anywhere in the alarm row or by selecting the New or Edit menus from the main menu Alarm. Column 3: Condition Represents condition of the alarm in this row. Four possible conditions get displayed here. Offline when the alarm is suspended or offline. Normal when the alarm is online and the equation evaluates to FALSE. Triggered when the alarm is online and has been set off (evaluates to TRUE). Comm Error when an alarm is online and a communications error with one or more addresses is preventing the alarm from being evaluated. Alarm Acknowledgement information also appears here but is not considered a separate condition. This column cannot be edited. Column 4: Severity The severity of the alarm configured. Severity levels are Low, Medium low, Medium, Medium high, and High. The user can add/edit the alarm severity from the Alarm Equation dialog box which gets displayed when double clicking anywhere in the alarm row or by selecting the New or Edit menus from the main menu Alarm. Column 5: Comm. Status Will display Offline when the alarm is offline. Will display Suspended when the Alarm Active box is un-checked in the Alarm Equation dialog box. When online, this column will display the status of the data registers that are read to evaluate the alarm equation in this row. Any errors reading addresses will be displayed here. A communications error will be displayed in the format below. [device1]:[error1], [device2]:[error2], Since many addresses are read in one packet, a status error may be displayed in multiple rows. For example, assume we configured 100 V addresses in a 505 PLC and we were using several of them in various alarm equations. If we attempt to use V101 in an alarm equation, the status for this equation as well as other equations that use addresses from the same packet will report Address out of range because the entire packet would have failed by including 1 erroneous address. 11 Alarm Sheet Setup Selecting Options from the Setup menu will bring up the tab dialog box below. The alarm sheet options can be found on the first property page of the tab dialog Figure 10 Update Rate The Update Rate is used to configure how the server reads the data and updates the cache. The user can enter time intervals in the edit box. The combo box list four time units (msec, sec, min, and hour). Minimum value is 0 (updates the cache as quickly as possible) and maximum value is 23 hours. Columns to Include Columns to Include nested within the Display box simply turns on and off columns in the alarm sheet. Alarm Equation The Include box nested within the Display box lists portions of the register to display within the alarm equation. The alarm equation defines an alarm situation. 10 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

An alarm equation can involve virtually unlimited (limited to memory size) number of addresses and/or constants that will be evaluated to determine if the alarm is triggered. The value can be a constant or read from a register belonging to any device that s attached to any FasTrak server. The alarm equation will display registers in the following format: Device Name.Address,Address Tag,( Value) Alarm Status Appearance Status bar The status bar displays the current mode (online, offline), caps lock, num lock, and insert vs. overwrite. Progress control is displayed in the left portion of the status bar during load, save, import, export, and while documentation databases are being connected to. Column Layout The Alarm status window resides in the lower portion of the split window. It contains 5 columns designed to provide information on the current state of the alarms. Every time the condition of an alarm changes, a status entry will be inserted into this window and entered into the database file. Status messages will be sorted by Alarm Tag with the most recent status message appearing first. The first status entry will occur after an alarm is successfully online. Each column can be sized in one of two ways. The user can click and hold the left mouse button when in between 2 columns. By moving the cursor to the right or left a user can increase or decrease the column on the left. The user can also double click when in between 2 columns. This will adjust the left column so that it s large enough to display the largest string within this column. FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 11

Column 0: Alarm Tag The alarm tag is a unique 32-character string that identifies the alarm equation in column 1. Column 1: Alarm Equation The alarm equation represents the formula that is used to determine if the alarm is triggered. Unlike the alarm equation in the alarm sheet, the alarm equation here will not contain device names or tags. This saves on disk space when writing this information to the database file. When the condition (Column 2) is Normal or Triggered Addresses in the equation are substituted with actual values read by the server at the time and date listed in column 4. When the condition (Column 2) is Offline or Comm. Error, only register addresses and operators will be displayed here. Column 2: Condition The condition of the alarm at the time and date displayed in column 4. Four possible conditions get displayed here. 1. Offline when an alarm that was previously online was suspended (by un-checking the Alarm Active box in the alarm dialog) or changed to offline mode. 2. Normal when the alarm equation is online and FALSE. 3. Triggered when the alarm equation is online and evaluates to TRUE. 4. Comm. Error when there is a communications error involving one or more addresses in the alarm equation. Column 3, The severity of the alarm: Severity level is None when the alarm is not triggered. When the alarm is triggered, the severity level is one of the following (selected by the user in the alarm equation dialog): Low, Medium low, Medium, Medium high, or High. Column 4: Time Stamp This is the time at which the condition in column 2 has changed. 12 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

Alarm Status Setup Selecting Options from the Setup menu and choosing the Alarm status (lower pane) tab will display the property page below. Figure 11 Select Alarms for Status The group box labeled Alarms to Display is used to choose which alarms to show status on in the alarm status window. All alarm status entries are held in an Access database that may be configured in the Alarm Database property page. The dialog above gives the ability to select a subset of alarms status messages from the database. The Alarm Tags list box holds all the configured alarms (up to 3150) with a check box to the left of the text so items may be easily selected or de-selected. Alarms may be selected based on severity. For example, if you are only interested in viewing the alarm status of High severity alarms, you can select the Severities radio button and check only the High list box item. When the Severities button is checked, the items checked in the Alarm Tags box do not apply. Similarly, when the Alarm Tags button is checked, the items checked in the Severities box do not apply. The Conditions list box holds all possible alarm conditions. The condition restrictions are applied to the alarms or alarm severities that are selected under the checked radio button in the Alarms to Display group box. Clicking on the Apply button will apply the current settings to the alarm status window with an immediate update of the window without closing the tab dialog. FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 13

Clicking on the OK button will have the same effect online with the exception of closing the tab dialog. If offline, the settings will be saved but not applied to the alarm status window. Time Range The time range group box (only applies to alarm status history disabled when online) provides the ability to see alarm status messages in a certain time frame. The time range always applies to alarm statuses that are selected in the Alarms to display group box. To see the entire alarm history in the database, select the Beginning and Most Recent radio buttons. Check All, Uncheck All The Check All and Uncheck All buttons will check all and un-check all items in the Conditions list box as well as the list box items under the selected radio button in the Alarms to Display group box. Colors The Colors button will bring up the dialog below so that the alarm s status can be color-coded. Figure 12 The Alarm Status Types list box holds the following status types in order: None (condition normal ), None (condition offline ), None (condition comm. error ), Low, Medium low, Medium, Medium High, and High (condition triggered ). The controls to the right of the list box will reflect the color of the severity that s currently highlighted. 14 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

The default text colors for all alarm status types are as follows: ALARM Condition ALARM Severity Color Normal None Green Offline None Green Comm. Error None Blue Triggered Low Blue Triggered Medium low Yellow Triggered Medium Purple Triggered Medium high Orange Triggered High Red Time Stamp The Time Stamp button brings up the dialog below so that the time and date displayed in the Time Stamp column (lower pane of split window) can be configured. Figure 13 Time Format The Time Format list box displays allow you to select standard or military format. Date Format The Date Format list box will display the current date in four different formats. 1. [month]/[day]/[year] - each represented by 2 digits. FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 15

2. [year]-[month]-[day] - The year is displayed in 4 digits while the month and day are displayed in 2 digits. 3. [day]-[month]-[year] The day and year are displayed in 2 digits while the month is displayed as a 3-character abbreviation. 4. [month] [day], [year] The month is completely spelled out, the day is displayed in minimal digits and the year is displayed as 4 digits. Display Format The Display Format combo box will gives four choices. 1. [time][date] - Display the time before the date. 2. [date][time] - Display the date before the time. 3. [time] - Display the time only. 4. [date] - Display the date only. Sort The Sort button gives access to a dialog for selecting the primary and secondary sort options of the alarm status messages as they are displayed in the alarm status window. This dialog is displayed below. Figure 13a The Sort By Combo boxes provide four sorting options: Alarm Tag, Condition, Severity, or Timestamp. The sorting options correspond to the columns in the alarm status window. The secondary sort is applied to duplicates in the primary sort column. 16 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

Alarm Database An Access database file is used to store the status of all alarms. The default database filename is FTAlarm.mdb and is located in the same path as the.exe. Alarm status messages are appended to any existing messages from previous runs of FTAlarm. The database path and filename are stored in the registry so they can be retained across runs of FTAlarm. The database settings can be viewed or edited (when Mode is Offline ) from the property sheet when selecting Options from the main menu Setup and choosing the Alarm Database tab. This brings up the property page below. Figure 14 The sunken static box at the bottom of the Database Tables group box gives a brief description of the database table selected in the Table Names combo box. Three database tables (Alarms, Auto Print, and Call History) exist in FTAlarm.mdb. The Alarms table contains the status on all alarms. Every time the condition of an alarm changes, a status message for that alarm is entered in the database. The Auto Print table is used when automated alarm status print is enabled. It contains the status on all alarms that match the automated print query. This tabled is automatically flushed out after an automated print. The Call History table contains the status on all recipients that FTAlarm attempted to contact as a result of a triggered alarm. Every time FTAlarm attempts to call someone, the status of the call gets entered into this table as soon as FTAlarm can determine whether or not the call was successful. FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 17

The two radio buttons can be used to determine if status messages and call history will be removed and if so, how old they must be before they are removed. Setting a flush rate is recommended to limit the size of the database. The database path and file can be edited in the Database Path group box by selecting the Browse button or by editing the path and file string directly. Before going online and connecting to the database file, a search will be done to determine if the database file exists. If it does not exist, it will be created immediately. If the file exists, you will be warned and given the following options. Figure Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

Adding, Editing and Deleting Alarms Creating a New Alarm Select New under the main menu Alarm" or double click on a blank row in the alarm sheet to add a new alarm. This pops up the New Alarm dialog box below. Figure 16 Alarm Tag The Alarm Tag edit box provides the ability to add a 32-character string that identifies the alarm equation. This is required field and must be unique. The Severity combo box can be used to attach a level of severity to the alarm. One of five severities can be selected which include Low, Medium low, Medium, Medium High and High. The Alarm activate check box gives the user the ability to turn alarms on and off. If this box is checked, the alarm operands will be read from their respective devices when the mode is switched to Online. The Apply, Next Alarm, and Prev alarm buttons are only enabled when editing existing alarms. FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 19

Alarm Equation Simple Equation The Alarm Equation Simple Equation" group box represents an expression involving up to four combinations of addresses and/or constants that will be evaluated to determine if the alarm is triggered. The static box at the bottom displays the equation in text format represented by the 3 rows of controls in the group box. The first rows of controls make up the low trigger range. The last rows of controls make up the high trigger range. The middle combo box in the second row of controls represents the trigger relationship. This combo box contains the strings END, AND, AND NOT, OR, and OR NOT. If END is selected, only the low trigger range is used in the expression. The small combo boxes in the middle of the first and last rows of controls contains the following relational operators: <, >, <=, >=, ==, and!=. The four sunken static boxes adjacent to the Edit buttons represent alarm operands that can be a constant or address. Addresses can be selected from any configured device belonging to any FasTrak server. When choosing an address, the static box will display the device name, a period followed by the address. A period separates the address and device. Adding or editing values in the static boxes are accomplished by clicking on the adjacent edit button. This will display the dialog box below. Edit Alarm Operand Figure 17 Click on Select Register to select an address from a device that s configured for a FasTrak server. Clicking on an item in the Tags list box will display the corresponding address in the Address/Tag edit box. As characters are entered in the Address/Tag edit box; a comparison is performed on the tags in the list box. If the string in the edit 20 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

box represents a sub string or an exact match of an item in the list box, that item will get selected in the list box. It is assumed that a new address is being typed in if a match is not found. A comparison will be made with each tag s corresponding address looking for a match. If no matches are found, any previously selected tag will become unselected. Click on Select Constant to enter a constant value. The Data Format combo box can be used to select the format of the register value or constant. Alarm Equation Complex Equation The Alarm Equation Complex Equation group box represents an expression involving an unlimited number of addresses and/or constants that will be evaluated to determine if the alarm is triggered. Addresses can be selected from any configured device belonging to any FasTrak server. When typing an address, the required fields of device and address are separated by a period and enclosed in single quotes. Additionally, you may add a format specifier within the single quotes following the device.address. For example: device1.v1 U16. You can alternately type the tag name of the address rather than the address itself. For example: device1.tagforv1 U16 At least one address is required to be in the equation. The complex equation differs from the simple in that it allows for more math operations to be conducted in the equation. The available operations are as follows: FasTrak Softworks, Inc. 24 Alarm Response The Alarm Response button will bring up the dialog box below providing a list of all the configurable responses to the alarm which is being created or edited. Figure 18 Alarm responses can be enabled and disabled by checking and un-checking the box next to the text. The Repeat Response Time is a timed delay between responses. The delay time only guarantees that the alarm response will not repeat itself within the selected time. It does not guarantee that the response will repeat at this rate. A repeat response time can be set for all responses except Flash Window. The audio and flash window responses will respond multiple times while an alarm is triggered but the remaining responses only respond once per trigger. Currently there are 5 different alarm response types available they are, Audio, Flash Window, Print Report, Send Mail and Pager/Phone. Alarm responses can be enabled and disabled by checking and un-checking the box next to the text. FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 23

Audio Response When the Audio response is highlighted, the Configure button can be selected to specify what type of audio to play. This dialog is displayed below. Figure 19 The Standard Beep radio button can be checked if you want the computer to beep repetitively when the alarm equation evaluates to TRUE. The Play wave file button can be selected to enable the edit box and file select button so that a.wav file can be selected and played when the alarm equation evaluates to TRUE. An unacknowledged triggered alarm will play the wave file in its entirety in a continuous loop. Multiple triggered alarms using a wave file response will be played in sequence in the order that they appear in the alarm sheet. The Text to speech button can be selected to enable the Configure button so that text can be entered and converted to speech when the alarm equation evaluates to TRUE. 24 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

Text To Speech The dialog for configuring text-to-speech is displayed below. Figure 19a The text to be converted to speech can be entered in to the Spoken Text edit box. Wildcards can be used in the text to represent current alarm values at runtime. Use the Voice combo box to select from 4 available voices. The first three voices (1 female and 2 males) are synthesized voices that use mathematical algorithms to produce a word. The last voice is an example of a voice font that is a collection of words spoken by a person and assembled into a phonetic dictionary. When SAPI (Speech Application Interface) encounters a word, this database looks it up. A successful match plays a portion of the sound file of the word. The voice font produces what it often considered better and more natural prosody, the way the word sounds. The voice font included with FTAlarm is called Sample TTS Voice and it was created using the Microsoft command line application MkVoice by compiling a list of words in a text file (1 per line) that correspond to.wav files of the same name that hold the recorded word to be spoken. If at run time, the word cannot be found in the text file, the first word in the text file will be used which in this sample is Blah. The voice font in FTAlarm has only a handful of words for demonstration purposes only. To test it out, enter the text Enter text to be spoken here. In the Spoken Text edit box, then click on the Test button. FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 25

The format of the voice can be selected from the Format combo box by choosing combinations of Hertz, bits, and mono/stereo. The list of formats varies depending on the output device selected. The Audio Output combo box will hold all available non-modem output devices such as a speaker. When text-to-speech is configured, the Test button will speak the text as it would sound if the alarm were triggered. The word Zero is substituted for all wildcards when testing. Flash Window The Flash Window button can be checked to flash FTAlarm s title window and status bar icon when the alarm equation evaluates to TRUE. This response is not configurable. Print Report The Print Report button can be checked to print out the status of the alarm after it has been triggered a selected number of times. When this response is highlighted, the Configure button can be clicked on to display the dialog below. Figure 20 The printed report will contain the same information listed in the alarm status window for the corresponding triggered alarm occurrences. An optional message can be configured to follow the alarm status info to serve as instructions on how to handle the alarm situation. The Print Setup button allows the configuration of a unique printer with unique settings specific to this alarm while leaving the default printer and settings intact. 26 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

Send Mail The Send Mail button can be checked to send a mail message to selected recipients after an alarm has been triggered. When this response is highlighted, the Configure button can be clicked on to display the dialog below. FTAlarm only supports Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express mail clients. The registry will be checked for one of these mail clients and an error will be displayed if neither one is found. Figure 20a Clicking on the To: or Cc: button will bring up the standard address book dialog. You can select one or more recipients for the message (similar to Microsoft Exchange). Recipients can also be entered manually in the adjacent edit boxes and will be verified when selecting the OK button. The subject and message text is optional while one or more recipients are mandatory. A mail message will be sent once per trigger and no sooner than the mail repeat response time. If you are sending an via a modem, you need to check the Connect automatically box in the Dial-up Connection dialog. FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 27

Pager/Phone The Pager/Phone button can be checked to call one or more recipients after an alarm has been triggered. When this response is highlighted, the Configure button can be clicked on to display the dialog below. Figure 20b FTAlarm can call numeric pagers and voice phones provided that systems modem is configured. To configure call recipients you must first enter the recipient s name, number and service type from the dialog displayed by selecting the Contacts button. Once a contact is configured, they can be selected as a recipient in the Configure Recipient group box. The Condition combo box lists two conditions that can be applied to all recipients excepts the first recipient. The first recipient is always called provided that they are On Call at the time the alarm was triggered. The first condition is to call the contact in addition to and regardless of the previous recipient condition. The second condition is to call the contact only if the previous contact is unreachable. A contact is considered unreachable if they are not On Call, if the number was not successfully dialed, or the recipient did not respond to a wave or text-to-speech type message. When using automated voice via playing a wave file or converting text-tospeech, the recipient is prompted to enter digit 1 to get details on the triggered alarm. If the recipient never presses 1 on their phone, it will be treated as an unsuccessful call and the contact is considered unreachable. Before adding a contact to the recipient list, you must configure one of three types of messages. If calling a numeric pager, you are forced to configure a numeric message. In the Message group box, the Type combo box will display Numeric. Below this will appear a Number edit box. This number will appear on 28 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

the recipient s pager after an alarm was triggered. Below the Number edit box will be an answer delay edit box where you may enter the number of seconds to wait for the pager service to answer the call. FTAlarm will not attempt to send the number until this time has expired. If calling a voice phone, you need to have a modem that supports automated voice. FTAlarm will verify this if you are not sure. When placing a voice call, you have the option to play a wave file or convert text to speech. To play a wave file, select Wave File from the Type combo box. Enter the path and filename of the.wav that holds information on the alarm that was triggered. Enter the recipient response timeout in the corresponding edit box. If the call recipient does not answer the phone or does not respond to the automated message within this time, FTAlarm will hang up and try to call the next recipient in the list. To convert text-to-speech (TTS) over the phone line, select Text-To-Speech from the Type combo box. Select the Config button to bring up the Text-to-speech dialog (as described in Text-to-speech under Alarm Response section). This dialog will perform the same as the one used when configuring TTS for an audio response with two exceptions. The Audio Output will hold only modem output lines. Make sure that the audio output you select correspond to the line selected in the upper left corner of the pager/phone setup dialog. If the wrong line is selected, the call recipient will never hear the TTS. The Test button in the TTS dialog is not used. All call tests can be performed from the pager/phone setup dialog. The final step in configuring the TTS message is to include the recipient response timeout as described in the previous paragraph. Once a call recipient has been correctly configured, by selecting the Test button a test call can be performed to verify that everything has been configured correctly. If the Call Status menu is checked under the View menu, a call progress dialog is displayed. The Test button has been changed to Hang Up. You can wait for the call to complete or press the Hang Up button at any time. Adding Call Recipients A correctly configured call recipient can be added to the list in the Recipient group box by choosing the line to use in the upper left corner and selecting the Add button. The newly added recipient will be appended to the list but may be moved to any location using the Move Up and Move Down menus. If you plan to call more than one recipient and you have more than one modem attached to your PC you can assign recipients to different lines. This will speed up the call process by calling multiple recipients simultaneously. FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 29

Call recipients may also be imported by selecting the Import button to display the dialog below. Figure 20c The source recipient list holds recipients that have been configured for other alarms. All alarms that have configured call recipients are listed in the Alarm Tags combo box. You may select one or all recipients from one alarm listed in the source recipient list and select the Add button to copy all the highlighted recipients to the destination recipient list. In the next version, call recipients from other files may be imported from.txt files created by exporting alarm files from the File menu. Edit/Delete of call recipients In the Pager/Phone Setup dialog, a call recipient may be editing by first selecting the recipient in the list and then clicking on the Edit button. The recipient will be temporarily removed from the list and the controls in the Configure Recipient group box will be updated to represent the recipient being edited. When the changes are completed, the Add button can be selected to re-add the recipient at the same location in the list box. To delete a call recipient, select the recipient in the list to delete and then click on the Delete button. You will be asked to confirm the delete, then the recipient will be removed from the list. 30 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

Call Status A call can be placed by selecting the Test button from the Pager/Phone Setup dialog or as a response to a triggered alarm. In both cases, a modeless dialog will be displayed (one per each active line) listing the status of the call provided the Call Status menu is checked under the View menu. The dialog is displayed below. Figure 20d The name of the call recipient is listed at the top. The exact number being dialed follows. The rules defined for the calling location is applied. The number dialed usually starts with a T or P, which stands for tone or pulse. This also gets defined in your calling location. The calling location for the above example requests that a 9 followed by a 1 second delay (,) be dialed to access an outside line. Notice that the area code does not get dialed since the area code for Joe Maintenance and our calling location match (414). As the status of the call changes, messages get appended to the Status list box. The Timeout progress control represents the recipient response timeout that was entered in the Message group within the Pager/Phone Setup dialog. When the control is filled from left to right, the timeout has expired and the call will terminate. The timeout gets reset for every time the user responds to the call via the touch-tones. This is in case the user needs to have the message repeated. If a call is being placed to a numeric pager, the Timeout text will be changed to Answer Delay. When the control is filled from left to right, the delay has expired and FTAlarm will generate the numeric message that will appear on the recipient s pager display. The box labeled Don t show this dialog when placing a call can be un-checked so that this dialog does not appear when calls are in progress. This has the same effect as un-checking the menu Call Status under the View menu. FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 31

Configuring Contacts Pager/Phone recipients are selected from a database of Contacts. Selecting the "Contacts" button located in the Pager/Phone setup dialog enters contacts. This will display the dialog below. Figure 20e Enter a contact s first and last name in the Name group box. You may configure multiple phone numbers for one contact. The phone number and service type (voice phone or numeric pager) are entered in the Calling information group box. 32 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

The country code and area code will default to whatever is selected as your default location in the Phone and Modem Options dialog shown below. Figure 20f This dialog can be reached by clicking on the Phone and Modem Options icon from Control Panel or by selecting Options from the Pager/Phone Setup dialog. Configuring your location is crucial because it directly affects the exact number that is dialed to reach the recipient. For example, if you are at a location with a 414 area code and the recipient you wish to call is also at this area code, then FTAlarm will skip dialing the area code. Area codes that differ from your location area code are always dialed. Finally, additional numbers such as a number to get an outside line, numbers to disable Call Waiting, or numbers for a calling card can all be configured from this dialog when setting up your Location. This alleviates the problem of having to change all the contact numbers when calling from a different location. You simply need to select the new location from this dialog and recipients will be dialed per the settings of your new location. You can configure an On Call schedule for each phone number by double clicking on the phone number from within the Contact List" in the Available Contacts group box or by highlighting the number and selecting the Schedule button. FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 33

If a number is not On Call when the alarm is triggered, then FTAlarm will not attempt to call the recipient! The dialog for setting up On Call schedules is shown below. Figure 20g The name and number you selected appear at the top of the dialog. You may change the name and/or number at any time if you wish to change the schedule for another number. The current month and year are displayed in the upper left corner of the Availability group box. You may move forward one month at a time up to one year into the future by using the scroll bar to the right of the month and year display. For example, the dialog above reads May, 2001 when the current date is from to By selecting the up arrow you can scroll the months up to April, 2002 which essentially allows you to schedule a number up to one year in advance. When the date changes to June 1, 2001 and you enter the Call Schedule dialog, the first month will be June instead of May and you will be able to scroll to May Whatever was scheduled for May 2001 is erased and May 2002 will appear unscheduled since this is a new future month. To set up On call days, you must depress the day you want to schedule then in the right portion of the Availability group box you must select the start and stop time for that day. You can apply the time to one day or multiple days by selecting the desired radio button in the Apply To group box and then depressing the Apply button. The affected days will be automatically depressed after selecting the Apply button and confirming. The radio buttons in the Apply To group box are described below. One Day - The start and stop time is applied to the day that is depressed and has the red pointer beneath it. Every <weekday>- The weekday that is displayed here is the day that is being pointed to by the red arrow. The start and stop time will be applied to every day that 34 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

has the same weekday that is being pointed to. You will be given the choice to apply this time to all months or just the current month. Every Day - The start and stop time will be applied to all days in the current month (regardless of the red arrow location) or every day up to 1 year. <n> days - The start and stop time will be applied to a series of days starting from the day pointed to by the red arrow and up to the remaining days of the current month. You may move the red arrow to select a different day using one of several methods described below. If a day button has the current focus you may move the red arrow by using the up, down, left, right arrows on the keyboard or by selecting the TAB/Shift TAB keys. The Next Day and Prev Day buttons can be used to scroll the red arrow through all the On Call days of the current number within the one year schedule. Clicking on a day button will move the red arrow to that day and change the state of the button to depressed or un-depressed depending on the current state of the button Clicking just below a day button will move the red arrow to that day without changing the state of the button. You may de-select several days at a time using the controls within the Remove group box. The combo box on the left side of the Remove group box will hold all the weekdays as well as the string Day to remove specific weekdays or a series of days. The combo box on the right side of the Remove group box will hold all the months as well as the string every month to remove days from a specific month or days from all months. Call History The Call History dialog below displays that status of each call that was attempted as a result of a triggered alarm. Figure 20h FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 35

This dialog gets displayed when the Call History menu is checked from under the View menu. The Refresh button can be used to re-read the database contents in case a call was attempted while this dialog was displayed. All call history information remains in the database unless the Clear button is selected or the flush time has expired for the database. Editing an Existing Alarm While in offline mode select Edit under the main menu Alarm" or double click on an alarm in the alarm sheet to edit an existing alarm. This pops up the dialog with the heading Edit Alarm Equation. All alarm settings may be edited. The Next Alarm and Prev Alarm buttons can be used to scroll through all existing alarms. If an alarm is modified, the Apply button must first be selected to enter the alarm before moving to the next or previous alarm. Deleting Alarms Deleting alarms can be accomplished (only in offline mode) by first highlighting the alarms to delete and then selecting the delete key or the delete menu under the main menu Alarm. A dialog box will be displayed to confirm this action as shown below. Figure 21 The Select All menu item under the main Edit menu can be used to unconditionally highlight all the rows in the alarm sheet. The delete key can then be pressed to remove all the alarms from the alarm sheet. Then you will be asked to confirm this action before the alarms are removed permanently. This dialog is displayed above. 36 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

Alarm Sorting Alarms in the alarm sheet can be sorted alphabetically by alarm tag or severity by selecting one of two sub-menus under the Sort Sheet menu found under the main menu Alarm. The same sorting can also be performed by clicking on the Alarm Tag and Severity headers located at the top of the alarm sheet (upper pane). Selecting the same sort type in succession can toggle the sort order (ascending vs. descending). Sorting of the alarm sheet can only be performed while offline. Alarm status messages located in the lower pane of FTAlarm can be sorted by alarm tag, condition, severity, or timestamp by selecting one of four sub-menus under the Sort Status menu found under the main menu Alarm. The same sorting can also be performed by clicking on the appropriate headers located at the top of the alarm status list (lower pane). Once again, selecting the same sort type in succession can toggle the sort order (ascending vs. descending). Sorting of the alarm status messages can be performed while offline or online. Online/Offline The mode is listed as a menu item and contains the sub menus Online and Offline. The mode will always be set to Offline when entering FTAlarm. The mode cannot be set to Online until one or more alarms are entered. When Online mode is selected, FTAlarm will prompt the servers to go online with any devices necessary to read all addresses for all active alarms. The alarm addresses will then be read per the update rate. FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 37

Alarm Acknowledgement Configuring an Alarm Acknowledgement Each individual alarm can be configured to require an acknowledgement when it is triggered. To configure an alarm for acknowledgement, select the Acknowledge button from Edit Alarm or New Alarm dialog box. The Alarm Acknowledgment Setup dialog box appears. This dialog is displayed below. Figure 22 The Manual Acknowledgement group box is used for selecting individuals from a list of registered users (see Registering Alarm Users section) that may acknowledge this alarm when triggered. If Manual Acknowledgement is selected and the alarm becomes triggered, an Alarm Acknowledgement dialog will be displayed prompting for a user acknowledgement. This dialog is displayed below. Auto Acknowledgement - The Auto Acknowledgement group box can be used to automatically acknowledge a triggered alarm after a specific time span (Seconds, Minute, Hours, or Days). The default time span is 1 minute. If the condition of a triggered alarm changes to a non-triggered condition within the specified time span, no acknowledgement will be performed. The effects of an auto acknowledgement are identical to that of manual acknowledgement with the exceptions that no user intervention is required and the condition text displays Auto-Ack vs. Ack- [user name]. 38 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

Don't Acknowledge Alarm - The last and default radio button in the Alarm Acknowledgement Setup dialog can be selected so that the alarm does not require any acknowledgement at all. When an alarm that does not require acknowledgement gets triggered, it will continue to respond to any repetitive type responses, i.e. audio or flash window until the condition is no longer triggered or the mode is changed to offline. Acknowledging an Alarm Figure 23 A single alarm can be acknowledged (if the user has rights) by double clicking on the alarm or by highlighting the alarm and selecting the Acknowledge button which will force the dialog below to appear. A user can also acknowledge all the alarms (if the user has rights) by selecting the Acknowledge All button. This brings up the same dialog as below without the Alarm Tag control being displayed. Figure 24 To acknowledge the alarm, you must pick your name from the combo box, provide the appropriate password and hit the OK button. When an alarm is acknowledged several things happen. First the acknowledged alarm will be removed from the prompt ack dialog. If this was the only alarm in the dialog, then the dialog will be removed. Second, any audio, flash window, or other repetitive responses linked to this alarm will be halted. Third, an entry will be logged to the database and alarm status sheet (if configured) listing the alarm tag, alarm equation, condition, severity, FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 39

and time of the acknowledgement. The condition field will display the text Ack- [user name] but will actually represent an extension of the existing condition at the time of acknowledgement. For example, a triggered alarm may change to a Normal condition before it gets acknowledged. If this happens, it will be displayed in the alarm status sheet with the condition displayed as Ack- [user name] and a severity of None in the color that is configured for a Normal condition. This indicates that at the time of acknowledgement, the alarm condition was Normal. A triggered alarm will most likely be acknowledged while it is still triggered. In this case, the condition is still displayed as Ack- [user name] but the severity will be from Low to High and the color used is that configured for a triggered alarm with the same severity. Registering Alarm Users If you plan on setting up an alarm that requires manual acknowledgement, you need to first register all the users who will have rights to acknowledge the alarm. This can be accomplished when in offline mode by selecting the Users sub-menu from the Alarm menu to bring up the dialog box below. Figure Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

To create a new user, select the Add User button and the following dialog box will appear: Figure 26 In this dialog box you are required to enter a unique user name from 1 to 64 characters along with a password from 1 to 32 characters. On exit of FTAlarm, the users (up to 32) will be encrypted. To edit a registered user, double click on the user name or click once on the user name and select the Edit User button and the following dialog box will appear: Figure 27 The user name can be directly modified here. Clicking on the "Change Password" button to display the dialog below can modify the password. Figure 28 FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 41

You are required to enter the old password in addition to the new password and a confirmation of the new password. To remove an existing user, you must first highlight the users to be removed and then click on the Delete User(s) button and the following dialog box will appear: Figure 29 Selecting Yes from this dialog will tag these users to be deleted. Deleted users will be immediately removed from the list of users that are qualified to acknowledge an alarm even before FTAlarm is exited. Users must be careful to re-save files containing alarms with manual acknowledgement assigned to a deleted user. If not re-saved, it s possible that an alarm can be triggered with no one qualified to acknowledge it. For security measures, adding, editing, or deleting users can only be performed in offline mode. If alarms requiring manual acknowledgement have been triggered, the user will not be able to switch to offline mode or load another file until all alarms are acknowledged. The only way to override this is to shut down FTAlarm completely. Cut, Copy, and Paste Cut, Copy, and Pastes can be performed on alarm sheet rows a variety of different ways. The menu items can be found under the main Edit menu along with hot keys. Alternative hotkeys shift-delete, ctrl-insert, and shift-insert are supported for Cut, Copy, and Paste respectively. Toolbar items are also provided for all three features. Cut, Copy, and Paste will observe highlighted rows similar to excel. Highlighting alarm sheet rows is also similar to excel with the exception of column highlighting. When pasting alarms that already exist, appending a number to the tag to make it unique will modify the alarm tag. I.e. if you copy MyAlarm and paste it back into the sheet, the pasted alarm tag gets modified to MyAlarm-2. A paste may not succeed if appending a number to the tag causes if to go beyond the 32-character limit. 42 Alarm FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm

Import/Export Documentation Import Documentation Once a device is configured you can specify a database file to hold and sort all documentation. Multiple users can simultaneously modify documentation for the same device so regular updates can be scheduled to get the latest documentation within the database. One documentation file is available for each device. Documentation can be imported from comma or tab separated text files into an existing documentation database file by selecting File Import Documentation from the menu. The Import Documentation window appears (Figure 30). Figure 30 Documentation is merged into an existing database file attached to a single device. Note, when the radio button Verify Doc. is checked, tags, addresses, and the general file format are verified. This action causes the import process to be slightly slower. To start the import process, click the OK button. FasTrak Softworks, Inc. Alarm Alarm 43

Export Documentation Documentation can be exported from a documentation database file to a comma or tab separated text file by selecting Export Documentation" under the File menu.
