1 THIRD QUARTER 2015 Special Sound & Communication Technology Training Center Issue New Sound & Communication Technology Training Center Opens Renovated Regional Training Center Holds Ribbon Cutting! The new Northern California Sound & Communication JATC Regional Technology Training Center is now open, with the official dedication held June 19th during a formal ribbon cutting ceremony. This exciting new facility brings Sound & Comm training to an unparalleled level and provides a central location that all Sound & Communication members can call home. Guest of honor at the opening event was Diane Ravnik, Chief, Division of Apprenticeship Standards, State of California. We are honored to welcome Diana Ravnik as our featured speaker, said Training Director Ken Miller. She is an expert in understanding how apprenticeship training programs like ours provide new opportunities for meaningful careers and how valuable they are for individuals and the community. Ravnik praised the training center as a facility devoted to developing sustainable careers in the electrical construction industry. IBEW District 9 Vice President John O Rourke also praised the Trustees for their vision and commitment in making this dream a reality, and San Leandro Vice Mayor Jim Prola welcomed everyone to San Leandro. Our newly remodeled and modernized Sound & Communication Technology Training Center has already begun providing training sessions for Apprentices and installer/technicians offering a centralized, state-of-the-art learning environment utilizing the latest technology and real world hands-on labs. The renovated facility is fully Title 24 compliant and also includes a number of sustainable elements such as solar tubes; skylights; LED lighting; TPO roof topping; window glazing; electric vehicle charging stations; and drought resistant landscaping. The building also received a voluntary seismic upgrade during the reconstruction process. The new building features a number of smart classrooms, meeting rooms, and collaborative study spaces. It provides multiple labs for enhanced hands-on training, including electrical theory; fire alarm, security; CCTV; card access; audio video; structured cabling; telephone; public address; CATV; master clocks; mass notification; nurse call; relay logic; distributed antenna systems (DAS); and computer literacy. An area has also been constructed to serve as a fully functional wire-pulling lab. All of the classrooms include room occupancy sensors and a room control system. The first floor also contains a workshop, computer lab, curriculum development lab for online learning and student study area.
