Loftus Fire-EMS Chief Effective Date: xxxx A. PURPOSE To establish Department policies and procedures relative to dispatch of fire apparatus, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles in response to fire services related calls. B. STANDARD CAD FIRE CALL CONDITION CODES The following fire condition codes will be utilized by the emergency communications center in the County s Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system: Code Condition APTS - Apartment Fire ALMC - Commercial Fire Alarm ALMR - Residential Fire Alarm BOMB - Bomb Threat BSHR - Brush Fire Endangering Structure BRSH - Brush Fire BURN - Burn Violation CAM - Carbon Monoxide Alarm CHIM - Chimney Fire COMM - Commercial Structure Fire DMPC - Dumpster Fire Endangering Structure DUMP - Dumpster Fire FUEL - Fuel Spill GASC - Gas Leak inside a Structure GASL - Gas Leak outside HAZM - HazMat INDS - Industrial Accident MA - Mutual Aid MVA - Traffic Accident MVAT - Traffic Accident w/ Entrapment PLNE - Plane Crash PS - Public Service RESD - Residential Structure Fire SMOKE - Smoke Investigation SRCH - Search & Rescue TECHR - Technical Rescue TRAIN - Train Derailment TREES - Trees Down TRTL - Tractor Trailer Fire VEHC - Vehicle Fire Endangering Structure

CAD FIRE RESPONSE CRITERIA BY CONDITION CODES The following criteria will serve as a standard for communications and outline the proper response notifications for each fire related condition code. These are as follows: 1. APTS - Apartment Fire a. Four (4) fire company b. One (1) truck/towers 2. ALMC - Commercial Fire Alarm b. One (1) truck/tower c. One (1) EMS company 3. ALMR - Residential Fire Alarm 4. BOMB - Bomb Threat (Units may be staged offsite or at stations as needed) 5. BSHR - Brush Fire Endangering Structure c. Forest Warden (FW) Unit if during burn season 6. BRSH - Brush Fire c. Forest Warden (FW) Unit if during burn season 7. BURN - Burn Violation b. Forest Warden (FW) Unit
3 8. CAM - Carbon Monoxide Alarm if symptomatic patients 9. CHIM - Chimney Fire a. SAME AS STRUCTURE FIRE RESPONSE 10. COMM - Commercial Structure Fire a. Four (4) fire companies b. One (1) truck/tower 11. DMPC - Dumpster Fire Endangering Structure a. SAME AS STRUCTURE FIRE RESPONSE 12. DUMP - Dumpster Fire 13. FUEL - Fuel Spill a. Less that five (5) gallons i. One (1) fire company b. More than fire (5) gallons i. One (1) fire company ii. One (1) heavy squad iii. One (1) EMS company 14. GASC - Gas Leak Inside a Structure a. SAME AS STRUCTURE FIRE (adjust EMS #s as needed based on number of injuries) 15. GASL - Gas Leak Outside 16. HAZM - HazMat a. Two (2) fire companies e. Notify Fire Administration 17. INDS - Industrial Accident c. One (1) EMS company (adjust EMS #s as needed based on number of injuries)
4 18. MA - Mutual Aid a. Appropriate fire and EMS response (note F/R Officer may be contacted if needed to assist with determining resources) 19. MVA - Traffic Accident i. One (1) EMS company (adjust EMS #s trailers as needed based on number of injuries and EMD criteria) 20. MVAT - Traffic Accident with Entrapment a. Two (2) fire companies c. Two (2) EMS companies 21. PLNE - Plane Crash c. Two (2) EMS companies e. Notify Fire Administration 22. PS - Public Service a. Appropriate fire and EMS response 23. RESD - Residential Structure Fire b. One (1) truck/tower 24. SMOKE - Smoke Investigation 25. SRCH - Search and Rescue 26. TECHR - Technical Rescue a. Two (2) fire companies c. One (1) truck/tower 27. TRAIN - Train Derailment / Fire
5 c. Two (2) EMS companies e. Notify Fire Administration 28. TREES - Trees Down 29. TRTL - Tractor Trailer Fire 30. VEHC - Vehicle Fire Endangering Structure a. SAME AS STRUCTURE FIRE 31. VEHF - Vehicle Fire 32. WATER - Water Rescue a. If located on a the Rappahannock River, and the Boat is Disabled or Stranded Only (no medical distress, adequate food and water, subjects overboard, missing, etc) then: i. Boat 3 (or alternate mutual aid boat company as needed) b. If any other type of Water Rescue then: i. One (1) fire company ii. Boat 3 (if call located on Rappahannock River) iii. One (1) EMS company 33. WIRE - Wires Down D. EMS HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SUPPORT In an effort to promote highway traffic safety, a full sized fire apparatus (Engine, Tanker, Tower, Heavy Squad, etc.) shall be dispatched to provide traffic support on all EMS calls that occur on limited access highways. Fire units shall be added to the EMS assignment to assist with traffic support. These fire units shall serve as a traffic barricade to protect EMS workers and patients while care is administered among roadways. One fire company shall be dispatched to the assignment. If no response by the initial first due fire company, the Communications Center shall continue adding assignments by next due until the fire traffic support assignment is complete or otherwise advised by EMS units or other company officers. F. RESPONSIBILITY All personnel are responsible for utilizing this established CAD criteria. Communications may choose to upgrade response criteria if call information warrants a necessary change (for example a brush fire spread
6 over an extended area such as multiple spot fires along the railroad tracks or adding MCI trailer(s) to mass casualty calls). Officers may choose to modify response criteria based on call information and available resources.
