1 Introduction The 8139-SH-DC 128-Channel Addressable Smoke and Heat Detector (ASH) input module provides an interface between PAC8* nodes and Apollo addressable smoke and heat detectors. When the detectors are in an alarm state, the module reports to the PAC8 controller, which takes the appropriate action as defined in the application program. These include sounding alarms, communication with Human-machine Interfaces (HMIs), and switches to actuators as needed. Additionally, the module communicates with Apollo Manual Call Points (MCP) and other miscellaneous Apollo devices. It supports the Apollo Discovery protocol in normal mode to enable connection to the XP95 and Discovery devices. The module can also connect to retrofit, non-addressable units through the zone monitor, as well as IS devices. IS devices are connected to the loop through a Protocol Translator and Safety Barrier. The 8139-SH-DC module may be used with any Version 2 PAC8 controller (Hybrid, Logic, and Process) or 8851 SafetyNet controller. When used on a SIL 2 SafetyNet node, the 8139-SH-DC module is non-interfering, meaning it is not itself SIL 2 compliant but does not affect the other parts of the node that are. 1.1 Operation Overview The module is designed for use with the 861-FT-NA and 8611-FT-FU field terminals. The 861 is a standard, non-arcing field terminal assemblies (FTA), whereas the 8611 is a fused version. Connectivity is the same. The IN and OUT terminology is Apollo convention; loop drives are also referred to as A and B in some places. The ASH module is normally arranged in a ring. Using the associated field terminal, the 8139-SH-DC module provides two field loop ports, OUT and IN, that are connected to Apollo devices and drive the detector loop from each end. Up to 126 Apollo devices are connected as a single wire (and return) multiple drop bus to form a ring, with one end connected to the OUT terminals and one end connected to the IN terminals. Although the terminals are marked as IN and OUT, both ends are capable of sending and receiving data and continued operation in the event of a break in the ring. All devices can be connected in a ring network and the 8139-SH-DC module polls each device sequentially. After polling is completed from one end, it polls from the other end. All Apollo devices connected in the loop are controlled by the module. Signals are sent to the Apollo devices through voltage pulses that are super-imposed upon the supply level (nominally 24 V dc). The return signals from the addressed device are sent by the devices modulating their impedance to produce current pulses on the nominal 2 ma power supply. Fault tolerance (short circuit, open circuit, and faulty or incorrectly installed devices) is provided by the device polling scheme and the action of Apollo isolators. The 8139-SH-DC module uses the carrier s internal 12 V system power, as well as the bussed field power (BFP) supply ( V dc maximum) to source power for the field loops and the module s processor. LED indicators provide loop polling status, loop power status, loop power requested status, as well as power and fault indication. The power LED indicates the presence of both HVCC and BFP supplies. 21 5.3 LED Flash During Polls With the IO Configurator, the user can configure the internal LED(s) of the Discovery detectors to flash whenever a device is polled by the module. To configure LED Flash on poll From the IO Configurator, right-click the device and select LED Flash State. Select the Commanded State to Flash On, then click Write. Each time the module polls the device, the internal LED(s) on the device flashes. Control and Configuration GFK-2936 User Manual 21

Click Read to get the current value of the LED Flash State. The check box displays the current status of the LED Flash on Poll. 5.4 Failsafe Timeout and Recovery Failsafe timeouts below three seconds are not recommended, especially for systems with large numbers of modules. The module may also be configured using the IO Configurator to be commanded into the failsafe state. The module failsafe timeout can be configured to define the maximum permitted period of loss of communications between the controller and the module. If this period is exceeded, the module adopts a failsafe state. When the module is in failsafe state, the red Fault LED will be lit. When the failsafe timeout is configured to, failsafe mode is disabled. If the module has entered failsafe because of a loss of communications, it will recover automatically when communications are re-established. If the module was commanded into failsafe, the user can clear the failsafe state from the IO Configurator module s right-click menu. 22 GFK-2936 PAC SH-DC ASH Input Module

5.5 Line Fault Detection The 8139-SH-DC module detects short circuit or open circuit faults in the connected device loop. In addition to the tag names automatically created when a user configures the 8139-SH-DC module, a tag that monitors the status of the open/short detection is created called the Modbus Ethernet register. It can be used to detect the open/short circuit programmatically as follows: <ControllerName>_ASH_PhysicalSlotNo>_OPN_SHT Open Circuit Detection If an open circuit is detected, the module reports it in the Event log within 9 seconds if it is a Negative line break and within 4 seconds if it is a Positive line break. The IO Configurator Module Dynamic Data tab displays the details for short/open circuit detection. Short/Open Circuit Detection Status Positive Line Open Circuit Detection When an open circuit occurs on the Positive line, the loop continues to work. It takes up to 4 seconds to identify and report the occurrence of an open circuit. After detecting the open circuit, the Event log reports the occurrence. Positive Line Open Circuit Event Log Note Use the OpenCktLocator_Ver13.xls file (version 1.3 or higher) to identify the location of the open circuit. Control and Configuration GFK-2936 User Manual 23

Negative Line Open Circuit Detection When an open circuit occurs on the Negative line, the loop continues to work. It takes up to 9 seconds to identify and report the occurrence of the open circuit. In the event of an open circuit on the negative line, some devices will lose communication three times, for ~1 seconds each time, as part of the detection process. After detecting the open circuit, the Event log reports the occurrence. Negative Line Open Circuit Event Log Note The firmware suspends the negative line test until the user issues a loop power command. Use the OpenCktLocator_Ver13.xls file (version 1.3 or higher) to identify the location of the open circuit Short Circuit Detection The IO Configurator Module Dynamic Data tab displays the details of short/open circuit detection and isolation. The devices are polled through the two ends, IN and OUT, alternately. If a short circuit fault is detected, only the loop end where the short circuit is detected will be powered down. The Event log reflects the short circuit event. When a short circuit has been detected, the firmware suspends testing of the open circuit until the user has issued the loop power command. When a short circuit is detected at one end, the module suspends normal operation for 1 seconds to isolate the short circuit end. Short Circuit Event Log If the short circuit is between two isolator devices, the module will not be able to detect it as a short circuit because the isolators on either side of the fault will quickly isolate the path. Isolator units cut off the loop between them and the module will lose communication to any devices fitted between the isolators and continue to poll from both ends. When the short circuit occurs between isolators, the module declares it as an open circuit and it will take ~9 seconds to be reported in the Event log. Note After identifying and removing the short circuit, restore power to the loop to clear the error indication and flag bits. Command the loop power on and restore normal module operation. If a short circuit occurred between two isolators in a loop, the module detects it as an open circuit and an excel spreadsheet sheet, OpenCktLocator_Ver13.xls file (version 1.3 or higher) detects the location of the open circuit so the user can check the area of the loop for shorts. 24 GFK-2936 PAC SH-DC ASH Input Module

5.6 Channel Dynamic Data All channel data for the module (126 channels) can be viewed from the IO Configurator Channel Dynamic Data tab. It provides a table with the values for the flag bits of each channel. Double-clicking a channel displays the channel details. 33 7.2 Apollo Devices Extended Command Field Data This section is applicable only for Apollo Discovery devices. Apollo Discovery devices have Extended Command Field Data that the user can access through Modbus Ethernet registers. For details on what Field data can be read or written, refer to the table, Extended Command Field Data. Note Read/Write commands will be rejected, without reporting any error, if they are sent before the response to any previous read/write command that has been received. Users should send Read/Write commands only when the Send Enhanced Command coil has been cleared by the controller. To access field data 1. Populate the Enhanced Command registers for the device. Each module has a specific address set defined in the table, Enhanced Command Registers (HR Space). a. Command ( = READ, 1 = WRITE) b. Device Address (1-126) c. Field Address (-14, except 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9 which are reserved for Apollo) d. Data (written during Write operation) 2. Set the Send Enhanced Command Register (CS Space) register of the module being accessed and wait until the register is automatically reset. Once the command has executed, the status is returned in the Enhanced Command Status Register (IR Space) register of the module being accessed. Zero indicates success. The result of a Read command and the data written for a Write command are available in the Read Enhanced Command Response Data Register (IR Space). For this example, an 8139 module is located in slot 1 of the rack and the user wants to read 1 byte (11th location) from the 1th device of the loop connected to the module. Subsequent drift - upward or downward - of the analog value is compensated, so that the analog value remains at A discovery device will set the drift flag in normal mode to logic 1 when the limit of drift compensation is reached. The device will continue to operate satisfactorily but since the analog value will continue to drift and no further compensation can be made, arrangement for servicing the device in question should be made. Drift Flag, Spare, Spare, Drift range bits: 4, 3, 2, 1, X The five bits that indicate the drift range return a count of 16 if the amount of compensation of the analog value is zero. If the direction of drift is upward, the drift flag will be set when the drift range reaches a count of 31. If the direction of drift is downward, the drift flag will be set when the drift range count is 3. At a drift range count of the detector will send a fault signal (the analog value returned will be 6). A condition that indicates a pre-alarm or an alarm, such as any analog value over 45, will always override the fault signal. Discovery devices must not be used on control panels that incorporate a drift compensation algorithm. 4 Spare 8 bit data X 5 Spare 8 bit data X Reserved for Apollo 6 Spare 8 bit data X 7 Spare 8 bit data X 34 GFK-2936 PAC SH-DC ASH Input Module
