2 DEDICATION Sandy Campuzano The 2018 Kansas City Rose Show is dedicated to Sandy Campuzano in gratitude for her many years of service to the organization and her efforts in the renovation and beautification of the Laura Conyers Smith Rose Garden. Sandy joined the KCRS Board in 1998 and showed so much leadership promise that she was immediately elected President! She has served on the Board in various capacities for 18 years, retiring in Sandy was Co-chair of the annual rose show for 11 years, during which time it more than doubled in number of exhibitors and roses entered. In 2000, she was named the Garden Enhancement Chair to lead a rose garden restoration and beautification project which produced a 15- year garden plan and raised $2.2 million in private donations. The project was completed in 2015, and garden was re-dedicated with much community acclaim. The success of this project can be seen in the beautiful central fountain and extensive stonework including retaining walls, steps, pergolas and stone pillars. Additional sidewalks and gravel walk ways were created and the rosebeds were realigned and expanded. Less visible but still crucial to the continued success of the garden, is an improved irrigation and drainage system. For her efforts, Sandy was given the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department Presidents Award in 2004, along with other awards recognizing her leadership and dedication to the rose garden. Sandy continues her dedication to the Kansas City Rose Society as the manager of the popular Love is a Rose program which encourages the public to donate a rose to the garden in memory or celebration of a friend or loved one. A native of Silverton, CO, Sandy learned the love of gardening from her mother. In her Prairie Village, KS home she and husband Fausto grow perennials, trees and shrubs dominated by peonies and 40 rose bushes of several varieties. Her favorite roses are Gold Medal and Double Delight. Sandy says, The last 20 years have been defined by my dedication to this Rose Garden and all the people who have influenced and made possible its transformation. It has been an absolute privilege and when I walk in the Rose Garden among all the beauty there what I feel is pure joy."
