Membership in the MAINE GLADIOLUS SOCIETY is not required of any exhibitor, but all gladiolus must have been grown by the exhibitor except in the arrangement classes. EXHIBITION SECTION This section of the show is to be judged on the perfection of the gladiolus spike and the proper presentation on the show table. 2 CLASS 7 - Peoples Choice Competition (Any identifiable variety. The winner will be selected by a popular vote of those attending Windsor Fair,) DECORATIVE GLADIOLUS FROM THE KITCHEN TABLE Again this year is the display of Decorative Gladiolus arranged by the size of the floret. A decorative glad is one that does not meet the standards of the exhibition glad and is usually found on the Kitchen Table after the Exhibition glads have been selected. They are very useful in arrangements, bouquets and home/office decorations. The name of the glad along with the grower will be displayed for the benefit of the viewers. There will be no judging of the entries in this display.. DESIGN SECTION BOUQUETS Class B-1 Nine spikes (100 & 200 size) all one variety or mixed Class B-2 Nine spikes (300, 400 & 500 size) all one variety or mixed Class B-3 Gladiolus with other flowers but gladiolus ARRANGEMENT SCHEDULE 68th ANNUAL SHOW SUNDAY, AUGUST 30, 2009 Theme: State of Maine Our Counties Class A-1 Androscoggin Franklin Fun-In The Sun Arrangement of glads in a white container on a green base, using golf, tennis or boating accessories Glads predominate other foliage allowed. Class A-2 Aroostook Canoeing Down the Allagash Arrangement of glads in any container with driftwood as

3 the container or accessory. Glads Predominate other foliage and evergreens allowed. Class A-3 Hancock Washington Maine Blueberries Arrangement of glads and other flowers in a pottery container using blueberry or pine foliage. Fresh blueberries not permitted. Glads predominate. Small blueberry theme accessory allowed. Class A-4 Kennebec Waldo Somerset Summer Beauty at the Lakes An arrangement of small glads incorporating water. Other flowers and foliage allowed. Glads predominate. Beach accessories allowed. Class A-5 Knox Lincoln Cooling Shadows at Noontide Shadow box arrangement of miniature glads. Small wild animal or bird accessory. Other foliage allowed. These will be staged in shadow boxes supplied by the Society, 17 high x 15 wide x 101/2 deep. With a soft gray background. Class A-6 Oxford Sagadahoc Maine s Mighty Rivers An arrangement of glads and other flower s and foliage to honor Logging, energy and sport. Must interpret one of the uses of these rivers. Please indicate on an index card. Glads predominate Baskets Class B-1 Penobscot Piscataquis Celebration of our Indian Heritage Single color or shades of glads. Minimum of 12. Other foliage allowed.

4 Class B- 2 York Cumberland Party at the Beach Arrangement of mixed glads minimum of 12 in a picnic basket. Other foliage allowed. DESIGN SECTION RULES 1. Design section open to all except professional florists. 2. Gladiolus MUST PREDOMINATE in all designs. In some classes the only flower permitted are glads. Additional foliage is permitted when allowed by the schedule. NO artificial plant material may be used. In all classes, except baskets, up to three accessories are permitted (they must fit in the space allowed). Flowers need not be grown by exhibitor but should be named when possible. 3. No arrangement may exceed 26 inches in height or width. Arrangements to be shown on white paper covered tables with a black background, to be provided by flower show committee. A 3 by 5 card should be filled out with film or TV show's name. 4. The Maine Guide to Conservation shall be followed. 5. There may be only one entry in each class by an exhibitor but exhibitor may enter as many classes as desired. 6. A novice is one who has never received a Blue Ribbon on the design section of a gladiolus show, or who is entering the show for the first time. 7. The standard system of awards will be used. The decisions of the judges will be final. DESIGN SECTION Entries close at noon, show open to the public from 2:00 to 6:30 P. M. No exhibitor or entry fee. Glads in the design section do not have to be grown by the exhibitor. No artificial, painted or

5 treated material shall be used in the arrangements. Glads must predominate the arrangement. Other flowers and plant material allowed. All Entries in Class A-1 through Class A-4, and Class A-6,Class B-7 & B-8 will be shown on a white covered table with a black background. Class A-5 will be shown in a Shadow Box furnished by the Society.
