3 1 Introduction Society of Nepalese Students In Korea (SONSIK) is a non-profit, only registered organization in Korea for promoting our academic, professional and other mutual interests through wider, regular and frequent exchange of views among ourselves, and believing that closer relations with various academic institutions and professional groups. SONSIK has more than 1000 members including students, professors and researchers from over 80 Universities in Korea. It has an annual basis formal structural executive body to manage indented work plans. With the aim to strengthen the companionship amongst the Nepalese students, it is organizing multi-sports event on yearly basis. Figure: Group Photo taken at the end of programme To give continuation in such events, the 13 th executive committee has successfully organized the 4 th friendship sports festival and new student s orientation programme at Sun Moon University (SMU), Asan dated 9 th April Similarly, SONSIK organized new students orientation program with an aim to provide information of current scenario of Nepalese Students: regarding Challenges and Opportunities for Nepalese students in Korea, especially for new students on 8 th April Beside, developing noble friendship and bonds amongst Nepalese scholars and alumni from different universities and organizations, objectives of the programme were: To introduce SONSIK activities and to share information regarding Challenges and

4 Opportunities for Nepalese students in Korea, especially for new students, To provide some enjoyment to students by involving themselves in games with Nepalese way so that they can relief the work pressure and homesickness during their stay in Korea, To enable our Nepalese scholars, explore Asan, Cheonan cities and of course Sun Moon University and To strengthen SONSIK and Sun Moon University relationship and make Sun Moon University the most leading university among international students and attract them for their studies. 8 3 Planning Schedule To make the occasion effective, the 13th executive committee had decided to plan a concrete schedule of the work. Following table shows explains the details with date. The local organizing committee is composed of: 1 Biplav Shrestha 2 Anaya Pokhrel, 3 Hem Raj Rimal, 4 Bikash Dangi and 5 Manish Pokherl

9 4 Detail Events The whole programme was scheduled for two days. Day 1 (April 8, 2017, Saturday) New student orientation and workshop Time 17:00PM-18:00PM 18:00PM-19:30PM 19:30PM-21:10PM 21:10PM-21:50PM Events Registration Dinner New Students Orientation and Workshop Program Congratulatory remarks from the Guests PM-22:00PM Concluding Remarks by the President Guest House SLEEP Summary of Day 1 Figure: Prof Janardan Lamichhane sharing his experience Day first of the programme was started with meet and great at Natural Science Building of Sun Moon University with the purpose to interact with each other around 5 pm. This as a good move for all of the Nepalese Scholars to be at ease with each other once the formal programme had commence. After taking dinner, the new student s orientation and workshop was held in seminar room of the same building.

10 Moderator of the formal event was Mr. Keshav Thapa, Secretary of SONSIK 13th executive committee, with program chair Mrs. Aarajana Shrestha, President of SONSIK 13th EC. It was matter of luck that we could manage to welcome our founder president and Prof at Kathmandu University Dr. Janardan Lamichhane as chief guest along with alumni of SONSIK as guests. Mr. Jeevan Kumar Ban, vice president representing from region no.2 welcomed the guests and all the attendees. Similarly, Mr. Gyan Raj Koirala from Kwangwoon University, as a representative of old studetnts gave a nice welcome performance reciting a poem to welcome all the new students of spring semester, Dr. Ramesh Pandey, Assistant Professor from Sun Moon University, gave one hour presentation on the topic Current scenario of Nepali students in Korea: challenges and opportunities followed by demonstration on SONSIK and Its Activities: PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE from current president. 11 Chief Guest s experience sharing session was the most interesting moment of whole day, since he explained how they could manage their days during early starting time of foreign students in Korea. Quiz, poem, free talk and other activities were conducted as workshop for new students. We believe that this kind of event will make new student more comfortable with each other and will be able to relay diverse knowledge and information based on their own experiences about the research and stay here in Korea. 13 Day 2 (April 9, 2017, Sunday) Sports festival There were all together 6 games played, including Basketball, volleyball, football, jokgu, badminton and dodge ball. Tie sheet of the games are given below. Dodge ball and badminton were played in between these games. Figure: photo session before the games started

14 Summary of Day 2 On the second day, with great enthusiasm, multi sports fest begin early in the morning, without doing any delay on the scheduled time. The major objective of the festival was to provide refreshment and extend friendship among the Nepalese scholars. First game played was jokgu (fuss ball). Just after starting jokgu, volleyball was also played simultaneously. Next to finishing volley ball and fuss ball, lunch was taken. Exactly at 1 pm, after having lunch, football was started on the soccer ground. Simultaneously, dodge ball and badminton was played at badminton court. Finally basketball was played. Up on the playing all the games, trophy, medals, cash prizes was distributed to the winning teams by the guests. The whole program was wrapped up with the thank you message from program co-ordinator Mr Jeevan Kumar Ban and closing remarks by Keshav Thapa and Aarajana Shrestha, SONSIK 13 th EC secretary and president respectively, followed by group photo session.
